Interest Veracity Labs - "The Princess" (Leia lightsaber) hilt Interest Thread

Question for the folks who've placed themselves in the interest list.

arguments can be made for both copper or gold.

as we understand it (unverified), there was a single hero prop that WAS modified for the clip in the reshoots.

so I suspect lighting effects made the rose gold appearance and it is, in fact, the same prop and copper.

however this is unverified info, and we have seen archivists mention both materials.

so... how would you rather see this run:
1.) rose gold
2.) copper

or possibly if feasible, option of one or the other?

I would like to use this information and community preference as we begin discussing costs etc.

I'm leaning about 80% toward rose gold because it seems more like what I 'thought' I saw on screen when I first watched the movie. If we ever get confirmation that there was indeed an actual prop that was rose gold, then I'd be 100% for rose gold.

Rose Gold all the way!

It's a tough call for sure. Personally, I would prefer copper because I think it contrasts better with the aluminum. Rose gold makes the prop look a bit "muddy" IMO.

I also believe the actual prop is copper colored and not rose gold. When Rey first picks it up on Ahch-To it looks copper, and that's a fairly dark scene. In the Lucasfilm archives video it looks copper as well and that's in bright, even light.

As much as I think I prefer the look of rose gold I'd want this to be as close as possible to the actual prop, which seems to be copper, so I'd probably go with copper. It'd be a shame to have spent all this time trying to get every single dimension spot on but end up with a different material...

No question. I am just taking the temp of the supporting folks. We absolutely are going for accuracy.

As I mentioned above, definitely interested in rose gold!

Rose gold can be different shades, depending on the ratio of gold to copper in it. It might be good to see swatches of the metals that you have available to make the best decision. A darker/redder rose gold might be a nice compromise, and depending on the lighting on it would look pinker or more copper. As rose gold ages it can also get darker.

we'd have to see what options are available to us. But I'll follow up.

My personal ideal is to potentially offer the choice but don't know how that would play out yet in terms of costs.

Honestly I also want to make the clip a choice cuz otherwise that is tapped and untapped pommels on both static and vented flavors.

I want to try and avoid the Uber kit of extra parts people won't use that we are doing on the hero while still allowing people to get what they want.

but oddly enough sometimes extra parts for the configurability turns out cheaper. So... we'll see

I think depending on the copper/gold/silver ratio, the metal could be called red, rose, or pink gold. Darkest to lightest in that order. Red gold (darkest) might be very close to the prop color, and wouldn’t have issues with tarnish the way straight copper would.

Appreciate all the thought that you guys are putting into this!

You could be right. Seaching up images of polished copper some look close to rose gold.
But it could be the lighting as stated before, the darker, incandescent scenes in the RoS with the saber looks like copper like Korbanth's.
But the Tattooine scene with the brighter lighting gives the rose gold look.

Hopefully more information comes out to verify these things. Anybody have connections with people that worked on set? ;)

As much as I want it to be Rose Gold... it looks like Polished Copper to me. Therefore my vote is Copper.

If you were offering the buyer a choice, I’d lean towards the rose gold. I think it’s such a perfect selection from an ‘in world’ perspective, and so would love to see it in a reproduction that looks like what we saw in movie, as opposed to in youtube. But I also get the accuracy arguments and so in the absence of a choice or further information on the variants used in the film, I‘d settle with copper. I‘d had similar thoughts to those posted above about the varying shades with different gold alloys available and if that may assist, but also have strong concerns about copper darkening so significantly over time and risking the whole thing looking like a copper penny in a couple of years, or like the section on the Hero.

Honestly I also want to make the clip a choice cuz otherwise that is tapped and untapped pommels on both static and vented flavors.

Makes sense to me. I’ve been following the Hero thread and while I’d like to get one, I’m not intending to as want to direct my budget to Leia’s. But I’ve thought at times in the discussion “whoa, that is a expanding monster of customisations they’re offering“ hahah

I personally would primarily want a vented without clip to use on a 99% shelf queen, with the view that I’d like to get installed. But would be glad to have a vented clip in the mix also. A really good and subtle vent design similar to what I‘ve seen on some Hero’s would negate any interest from me in having an unvented option for display, and I can’t see any situation I‘d want an unvented with clip.

Harder perhaps with this design, but I wonder also if cutting in a different way might make it an option to have a clipless piece, a clipped piece, and the option to vent or unvent each of them. It’s still 4 pieces though, so may not save costs in reality I guess.

If you're using the mother-of-pearl inlay, I think that would look better against rose gold than copper. However, if you're not planning on going with the MoP, then copper would look good as well. Personal preference is definitely for the rose gold. That's immediately what I thought when I saw it in theaters and still prefer that look. To me, the "accuracy" is what I saw in the movie, rather than the prop they showed later.

As far as clip, maybe just offer that with the kit separately (as an add-on?), but leave the pommel untapped. The people who would want a clip installed can probably tap it themselves. :)

yeah we are planning genuine mother of pearl.

would people be ok tapping the clip holes themselves if they desire the clip?
