Limited Run Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLOSED)

Re: Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLO

First I installed the cylindrical nub into the face of the emitter and held it in place with the short screws. This Should emulate the top of the darkened steel rod which the v2 spun around. Next, I placed the threaded portion of the steel bolt into the emitter cup and then installed the bolt into the windvane section that is part of the grenade. The lip of the bolt cup should be level with the lip of the emitter cup. If it isn't check to see if there are any shards of aluminum embedded within the windvane's female threading. Clean out any shards and then reinstall. Then I installed the aluminum heat sink into the bolt cup. Again the lip of the heat sink should be level with the lip of bolt cup. Make sure the screw holes are aligned between the bolt cup and the emitter walls. Then place the emitter face into the emitter cup and align the screw holes between the two. Thus the screw holes should be aligned between the emitter cup, emitter face and bolt cup. Then use the two longer screws to hold the emitter face, emitter cup and the bolt cup in place.

@halliwax has a helpful thread here on finishing the v2. You could check there for his formula.

https://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=260362

Otherwise you could simply sand the aluminum starting with a lower grit like 400-600 and working up to 1,000 (or higher depending on the type of shine you'd like).

Is there a finishing method that will smooth out the tooling lines?

Awesome. In that case I'll just point my stencil thread to your new tutorial once they're done because you nailed it last time.

Mine arrived, so a quick pic of Dan’s V2s. First run (painted by Dan himself) on bottom, second run in middle, and this run on top.

I got mine today too and love the new-style spinning emitter design. This thing is a beauty for sure.

Dan!
I sent you a pm about one of the parts

the saber is beautiful for real

I got mine today - it's amazing. I do have one question for Dan, or anyone else who has assembled theirs: Where the 2 pieces meet up at the neck (where it spins), I have about a millimeter gap between the 2 pieces. this make the emitter have a little bit of a wobble as it spins. Is this normal? Is everyone's like this? Or should I grind down the threading of the piece inside so it will thread in further and eliminate this gap?

It should be less than a millimeter, but yes there is a small gap.

Mine had a bigger gap, at first. But I blew out the threads of both pieces, with canned air. Now the gap is about .7mm. Spins great & no wobble. I love it!

what did the compressed air do? :confused

redbutton and I stopped by metal supermarkets to get a couple pieces of stainless steel, ground a groove in the tip, got a shaft collar, and slid it into the neck/nipple area!

There was some gunk in the threads. I didn't like how things were threading together. Pulled things apart, blew things out, all good.

Re: Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLO

Hey @Hecubus114 ! My emitter wobbles too. 1/64" gap Emitter-side up, 5/128" Emitter-side down. I'm also thinking about grinding down the bolt to eliminate the wobble. I think I'll enjoy the hilt more if it doesn't make clanking sounds when I'm waving it back and forth making BRRROOOM, VVVVRRRROOOMMM, WWWAAAARRRROOOOMMMM sounds. ;)

Hey @SethS ! When I tried to install my Steel Cup Bolt through the Emitter Head it did not want to thread in all the way. It only went in half way then felt like it was sticking so I took it off, and out of the Emitter Head and screwed it into the Grenade Windvane Neck Section by itself. I had better luck getting it to act like a tap by twisting it into then back out of the threads and blowing out the debris that way and it went all the way in as far as it could.

Hey @thd9791 ! russellsch was using compressed air to blow out tapping debris from the threads to allow the bolt to fully seat down inside the Grenade WIndvane Neck Section's threads. What are you using the shaft collar for? ( @halliwax ! SHHHH! That's a preemptive SHHHH! NO PHRASING INTENDED! HA! :lol )

Hey russellsch ! Man I type slow, you totally got that in there way before me.
