Limited Run Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLOSED)

Re: Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLO

TCSS sells tubes of it. Wd40 would also work probably, I just hate the greasy way it gets everywhere.

Yes, I’d also rather avoid WD40 if possible. Thanks for the advice, will be ordering some from TCSS. I’ve also got some ‘specialised’ lube I use for my airbrush which would probably be good for this application too.

Thanks again.

Here’s what I did with my nub:

Using a combination of a dremel with a stone cutting bit and a drill holding the nub (both spinning at the same time) I flattened one side of the nub, then hit it with some 60 grit and some steel wool. Then I cut the nub using a dremel and then Blued it. I then hit it again with some steel wool to age the bluing.

nice work!

are people using oven cleaner or Aluminum Black to get that dark grey look?

Re: Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLO

I used Aluminum Black on my entire hilt.

Edit: I guess the nub is steel so that blued. The Rest is Aluminum Black.

Is the saber supposed to be washed or cleaned in any way prior to assembly/painting?

Assembly, no, painting I’d wash down with Acetone beforehand. Just to be safe.

Careful screwing in the pommel guys. It shouldn’t go all the way in. I kept repositioning it because something ddnt feel right. All the way in ...it lines up with the ridge of the flange, not the depression.

Re: Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLO

I think I figured it out. The space where the set screw can go is very large compared to the set screw, and the flanges above and below are not tight inside the handle. This means you have a lot of wiggle room and the single set screw can easily tighten and leave the pommel crooked. I had to roll it around and rest it on my knee to try and level it.

It feels tight when slid all the way in - but as you can see - it does not line up with anything solid for the set screw to grip to. I found a bunch of half circle marks all over the lower flange of mine from tightening the pommel.

I got a new chemical I’m playing with, I got one more round of tests today. And then I’m going to start writing a tutorial for everyone.

I’m very very happy with the results, here is my creepy uncle on the left with 3 soaks or oven clean, and my Yuma on the right with 3 soaks of “the good stuff”

I just want everything right before I have people buying this stuff, it’s stupid expensive...

I sent out about 70 packages this morning. I don't think I'm welcome back at that post office :p

With that many packages won't they come out to your place to pick them up (even without a commercial agreement)?

Mine was delivered to my US collection address on Friday and I should pick it up sometime this week - can't wait.

Well, NYC USPS is a bit different from the rest of the country.

I made a brass washer out of 0.016" sheet and it took the wobble out of the emitter. It still spins freely and makes the clanking noise we all love.

Is everyone screwing the mystery chunk in just this far or has anyone gotten theirs to sit flush?

FYI it's not supposed to sit flush. It's raised on the real prop. Maybe not quite that much (about half to my eye) but it's definitely not flush.
This seems intentional.

I was able to thread it in a bit more and now it sits like this:

It’s in the works I promise, I don’t want to release the info now, because this chemical can literally EAT the aluminum if not done EXACTLY to my instructions

I did some final tests today, 100% confident now. And wrote up some stuff today, I haven’t received my V2, but the second I do I will begin show and tell

The most important part of this tutorial is safety, so if you want to age it like this go out and get rubber gloves, a good set of safety goggles (not glasses, goggles covers your entire eye) and some dust masks
