Limited Run Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLOSED)

Re: Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLO

Mine wobbles too. But, I figure once that gaffers tape goes on there, it will be a non issue. I may just make a little shim to go in there to tighten everything up first though.

Show and tell time!

The first run is on the top. The new run is on the bottom. I had to steal the clamp from the old run.

I wasn't happy with my results here. The aluminum looked too good. So I had to try a few things to darken it a little bit and I distressed the bright spots.

I have the same thought.

I distinctly remember the original making a “clanking” sound in the movie (when Vader hands it to the Emporer and says “His Lightsaber...” you can hear the characteristic emitter clank). You also hear it when Hamill is handling it in the PCQ video. One of the unique things about the V2 is the noise the moving parts make—which explains the use of the gaffers tape in the first place. I would actually be disappointed if the tolerances in this hilt prevented that noise from happening. Dan’s runs “get it right”. I love the “clank”.

Here's my tip for the wobble:

The emitter screws are long enough to go through both sections of the emitter and the steel cup. I put a pin in one side and lined it up so it could go through all the holes. This let me line it up so I could put the opposite screw in and tighten it down. Then I took the pin out and put the other screw in. There's no wobble at all and everything sits tight. If you do want the spinning emitter than let the screws out just a tad. You can also shave a bit (and I do mean a little bit) off the bottom of the steel cup bolt thread.

HOLY FORCE!!! Way to paint like a runaway Fathier raif79 !!! I haven't even gotten past the looking at it stage yet with mine. I thought I had my grub screws lined up like you suggest, but maybe I didn't screw them in all the way, or not into the holes. I'll have to check it later tonight when I get some free time.

What is the concensus on ROUND END vs SORTA FLAT TAPERED END on the Nipple Plug? I find that the Round End fills the hole better, but the Sorta Flat Tappered End looks more like the REAL V2.

I made a brass washer out of 0.016" sheet and it took the wobble out of the emitter. It still spins freely and makes the clanking noise we all love.

Is everyone screwing the mystery chunk in just this far or has anyone gotten theirs to sit flush?

You went about the steel piece far smarter than I did, I just sanded the steel until it was flush!

As far as the mystery piece that's as far as mine sits. But that isn't a huge deal to me. I'm sure you can just drill that hole out a small bit more to get it to sit lower though.

I sent out about 70 packages this morning. I don't think I'm welcome back at that post office [emoji14]

Ahah will pay to see their face when they see you coming with all of these package ! :)

I bit of silicone gel and now everything is flush. I think a lot of the threads just needed to be cleared.

Do you mind if I ask what this silicone gel is exactly? Is it the stuff people use to clean their keyboards etc? Do you think once the threads are clear, some kind of lubricant may also help to avoid any accidental damage to them?

Cheers!

Personally to clean them i’d recommend an old toothbrush or wire brush to clean the thread then perhaps a spray with WD40 or some gun oil to stop rusting on the steel or just to keep it lubricated! Hopefully mine will be here on Monday! Can’t wait!

halliwax did you sand down machine marks first? I want to get cracking on mine, but I want to be very purposeful in what I do to it...

Thanks for the tips. I’ve read that WD-40 isn’t the best stuff to use because of its composition. Will need to find where I read it to read the details again.

I actually don’t have my v2 in hand. This is my Yuma saber I am practicing on lol ;)

This Yuma is loaded with machine marks

Here are some pics of what I did! It also helped control the wobble while keeping the rotation and clank. Have to wait for a drill stop or shaft collar in the mail but here’s the groove. This is how I interpreted Brandon’s explanation of the rod anyways

Yeah, I interpret the shaft end in the emitter nipple as a flat / broken piece vs. a domed piece as well.

TCSS sells tubes of it. Wd40 would also work probably, I just hate the greasy way it gets everywhere.
