Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

OK- abit more info:

The stunt phaser has not been dropped- just delayed.

The sonic will be out some time in 2011 :D

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

Don't shoot the messenger XD

I was just told that '2011 is going to be an exciting year for Who fans'

That could even be in reference to the new series XD

And they are making 3 Sonics- Tom Baker's, David Tennant's and Matt Smith's- and that will be the order of price, lowest to highest. Too bad I've already got the 4th Doctors Sonic from Russ's recent sound run. Looks like i'm going to be investing in the second most expensive XD

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

Good to know that Mat's Sonic is still in the picture. I want this screwdriver more than the other ones right now (being that ive already got my mFX but still eagerly awaiting the QMX version).

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

No worries! No shooting of anyone :) I always just hate those from any company regarding anything....a year is a long time :p

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

With the last post being exactly 4 months ago, I thought I'd email QMX again, and see if there was any news.

Turns out there isn't... apparently there is no tentative release date or price point, and the replicas overall design and construction are still being worked on.

Not a good sign for anyone who wanted one any time soon...

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

It'll never happen. I had more than a strong feeling about that when they started giving out wrong and conflicting info last year. Now I'm certain it will never see the light of day. At least not in the guise of a full metal, accurate working replica with sound.

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

The guy who was in charge of this line is no longer with QMX. I'd be surprised to see any of these props materialise tbh.

I don't know how QMX is still in business, with their record of vaporware.

Anyone wanna buy an MFX? :angel

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

well there go my hopes for an 11th doctor's sonic.... *shakes fist at the heavens in futility*

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

I'm still pretty confused as to why the BBC gave the license to QMx, who it seems have a pretty awful track record when it comes to fulfilling their product releases, when there was another, totally set up option just there. Boggles the mind. They obviously don't give two damns about the Doctor Who fans who want the replica- first they give the rights to MFX, who, fair play to them, produced a product (albeit completely wrong in dimensions, ridiculously overpriced and painted in the wrong colour....), compared to QMx who have little else to show but a pretty prototype with a phone vibrator in it...

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

the whole debacle regarding the Dr Who license came up when I spoke to Bryan from EFX in person while reviewing the luke ROTJ Reveal prototype . In short, production cost was way too high and the planned production was just too low to warrant said costs. Also, meeting UK factory labor standards was a huge issue.

Oh, there WILL be a metal, working replica of the 11th Doctor's Sonic at some point... it's just a question of WHEN! And it will involve buying from a source that some RPFers prefer not to do business with. But given that the person in question has done what even MFX couldn't do, i.e. produced a 9th/10th Sonic that's as accurate to the filming props as possible, while improving on the design to incorporate working SOUND, it's enough to make me wish I had the disposable income free to buy one of his. But alas, in regards to props, it is the year of GREEN LANTERN, with too many GL props being released that must be bought NOW before the value shoots through the roof. So the expansion of my Sonic Screwdriver collection will have to wait awhile. :unsure
