Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

Looks good - actually, looks better than good, even for a prototype. I'm all for Qmx to see this one through and will be watching progress like a hawk.

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

The future sonic has always been my favourite, but where is the Tenth Doctors sonic? As much as I want them to make the future sonic, my exitement has been cancelled out due to the past history of vapourware and the lack of Tens sonic news. Is this yet another repeat of last years disapointment? Afterall these are just high end Robatto made prototypes that we are seeing now. No firm news on release dates, price etc etc. Sounds familiar.

The fact that they have targeted CT's next two releases only hasn't passed me by either. I was hopeful when I started this thread, but I'm so sceptical now. Fingers crossed though eh!

I do like the angel though. Bet we see this come to market quite quickly.

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

As much as I would like an SA sonic, the real props are apparently fragile. Though I am pleased they are making a Laser Screwdriver :)

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

Ah I'm full of fail today >.< I just noticed the URL was already posted in this thread.

[edit to fix]

I'm curious what kind of price range these will be going for. Would definitely be interested switching the plastic Sonic Screwdrivers out with metal ones.

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

I was really hoping for more than just first stage protos, I am still hoping there will be better announcements at SDCC. But from past history and with no new news for the last prototype shown last year I reckon my face is going to be...

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

I can't figure it out:
-"As much as I would like an SA sonic"
What does SA stand for? Super Authentic?

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

I feel like we should have a term like Set Accurate or Prop Accurate--IE: Made 100% in the style of the set-used prop. I don't think "Screen Accurate" quite conveys that. Because, on MY screen, a Sonic Screwdriver makes a sound, even if it was added in post because the prop was silent.
Some of us prefer a replica that behaves as much like the fictional item as possible while others prefer to have a replica akin to what the actors held in their hand. Both are perfectly valid, it's only a matter of preference. i just wish we had separate terms for each of those sorts of props, where neither was in any way derisive.

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

When I first got into this hobby, the people who were perfectionists and demanded 100% accuracy were referred to as SA Nazis. The qualifier being that they wanted their stuff to look exactly like what was seen on screen. Now we have a whole new breed of Nazis.

Dress in your Indy gear and go fight those Nazis!!:lol

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

Hmm, yep I agree, those QMX belles of Deja Vu are ringing loud & clear once again.

Look its seems so obvious that the 10th Drs Sonic just isnt gonna happen & I think its unfair of them to keep those wanting one hanging on.

Think about it, If I, or you had the go ahead to produce a prop, wouldnt you want to get it made asap & make money on it? Isnt that what being in business all about? So with that inmind what I cant understand why is has it taken QMx so long to produce (or rather not) the 10 Drs Sonic? & why are they not giving a release date?

Now look at this compared to when MFX announced they had obtained the licence, didnt their Sonic come out within 12months?

Sadly these new pictures prove nothing. Why not? Well may I direct you to the following for more background info;

The Celestial Toystore

Wether your a fan of CT or not, it is worth a read & so far, on all matters Sonic over the last few years he hasnt been wrong.

Now, if I wanted a QMX 10th Dr Sonic (which I dont, as I have one of CT's superb Ltd Edition Deluxe Ceramic Crackle 10th DR's Sonics with louder sound, thank you very much ;) then the two question I would want them to answer with no flannel or excuses are...

1. Have you made any 10th Dr Sonics? Yes or no?

2. If not why not why not?

Simple questions that deserve simple answers dont you think?

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

Howdy yall. first and foremost, the sonics Rubbertoe has on display at SDCC are amazing. He actually let me handle the 11th Doctor's screwdriver and the Master's Laser Screwdriver. *squeeee*. One interesting thing i noticed: The green sections on the 11th screwdriver are made of green resin with white marbling.
As far as any info on release dates and price, no one was able to give anything substantial at the QMX booth. Though they did have a farnsworths for sale at the booth with light and sound for 400 and teslas as well for 1000+ I forget the actual number. Ill post more tonight on my blog with pictures and such with more coverage.

I wouldn't expect anything less from the maker of the originals. As we have seen though, these hand made and fitted examples are a far cry from a production version. And as it has already been pointed out, they are not even prototypes, but examples QMx will be working with to make the prototypes from.

I was hoping for prototypes of Tens sonic (again), and of course Elevens (again). It's nice to see Nick Robbato's work, and the slim possibility we might see a future sonic made. But to see QMx display sonics not even at the prototype stage is less than disapointing. As I said before, I think we will see the statues made and released first, and then more in that range announced before we see any sonics made. The fact they still don't have any details a year on about pricing and release dates is not even a disapointment anymore, we all knew it would be like this. And to see Tens sonic de-materialise from the line up without a single word, truly shows how right people were when they mentioned vapourware a year back. In that respect QMx have delivered as expected.

Hey, just wanted to drop in and comment on one thing here.

The 10th Doctor and 11th Doctor Sonics are both at SDCC as well as the River Song and Master's laser. The sonics on display are the prototypes for the QMx Artisan line. Nick made the prototypes for us, so the next step will be getting the crew and materials to start working off Nick's prototype.

As for why we didn't use the one we showed previously? We feel this new one is more accurate.

I'm not saying they'll be made next month, but the QMx "vaporware" concern is part of a past that doesn't really include any of the current folks at QMx. The Farnsworths and Tesla's are both here and on sale. As are a number of newly designed statues and maquettes. The Enterprise Refit and the 2009 Enterprise are both here as well. And we'll have ordering details for those very soon.

So, I know the past hasn't boded well. But we're definitely looking forward and the sonics are further along than they've ever been ;-)

As for the previous Ten sonic -- well, we now have a prototype built by the man who made the prop. We're gonna work off that one instead, y'know?

Soooo...

When do you think a working prototype will be ready for production use?

Where will they be made?

When do you think they will be released?

Do you have a rough price bracket?

Why no update or info from the Ten sonic until now?

Is it still going to be made with sound?

Are the others?

Is NR just making the references pieces, or is his involvement ending there?

Which sonic will be released first?
