If it's in The Sun newspaper, the chances of it being a load of made up b*ll*ck* is near enough 100%. There's a reason why an entire city refuses to sell it.

Plus it's on the city or town that allowed it. Connecticut was giving tax breaks to movie studios a decade or so ago and we saw a huge influx of movies being filmed here in my home town and the surrounding towns. As soon as those taxes breaks went away so did the studios. So it has more to do with the local government than Disney.

Yep, the local and Buckinghamshire County councils would've been consulted at the very least.

The arrogance some fans have to tell Mark he's essentially stupid because he didn't agree with the direction they took just blows my mind. He knows the character better than anyone else.
Uh huh. Wasn't Mark is guy who pitched the idea that Luke should put on Darth Vader's helmet at the end of ROTJ? Wasn't he the guy who thought Boba Fett should be revealed as Luke's mother?

As much as we can’t change things and I’m tired of the energy wasted talking about all of the Sequel Trilogy, I do think Mark is right that at the end of TFA when that saber flies across the screen it should land in Luke’s hands.

it’s terrible fan service, it’s nostalgia baiting whatever. That’s the movie that TFA is. They should have just steered into it and made the most full on fee fees movie they could. At least we would have had a portion of the trio together by the next movie.

they could still explore Luke’s disenchantment with the Jedi of old, and why he can’t face Snoke directly yadda yadda, but when you’re making a splashy safe movie why not give people what they “want”

Better yet I'll call you Meghann.

Rian is the name of his god. So giving him the same name will be a point of pride. We can't have that. ; )

Meghann is more fitting for reasons I can't discuss here. Anyhooooooo....

I just find it exhausting that fans clap back at Mark for saying something nice to his director. Not only did he play the character but it's overshadowed his entire career and yet he's always embraced it and the fans with humility. A trait I've always admired about him as an actor because he's never let it go to his head.

Expressing a moment of gratitude for getting the chance to play Luke once again and then getting grief for it by people who claim to be fans just gives me a headache.

I want them to tell original stories but sadly that won't ever happen. Ah well. lol
I was thinking about this last night, and Mando season 1 episode 1 did this for me right until the moment the Child appeared at which point I knew all bets were off. For the majority of that episode I was blissfully immersed in a familiar world with a new story.

For me it's pretty simple. Luke tired to redeem his murderous father but when he had a bad vision of Ben/Kylo, his nephew, he jumped to wanting to kill his nephew. Sorry, that's just bad writing. Logically, and morally, Luke's character was never written with an inkling that he might act that way. It made absolutely no sense.

lol read the Rise of Skywalker thread for this very discussion.

Honestly, the fact that Mark proposed silly ideas like Luke wears Vader’s helmet at the end of Boba is Luke’s mom (never heard that one) arguably shows that Mark does know the character because he made those mistakes. He proposed them to George, got shot down, and was shown that the traditional happy ending was the right choice. Young Mark was a little impetuous and wanted to be “edgy” and “subvert expectations” and learned from the master the error of his ways.

I think it’s very telling that Mark tells Rian that he has to think about the fans and what the fans want. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mark got a simile lecture from Lucas on why Luke wearing the helmet and ending on a downer was a bad idea and saw the same thought process in Rian. Alas, just as in the ST, Mark failed to teach young RJ and he destroyed Star Wars.

If this was Kennedy’s master plan, that’s pretty meta lol.

No he wasn't.

And I'm going out on a limb here...but maaaaaaybe, just maybe the Boba Fett=Luke's mother line was...how do they call it? A joke?
