40" 1/2 ISD scratchbuilt [Painted !] updates 10/21

Re: 40" 1/2 ISD scratchbuilt [Close to the end...] updates 09/21

Thanks guys !

On my screen "dust" doesnt look warm but neutral. A very light gray !

Do you know refeer white ? Is it pure white or a bit gray ?

Ive never get the chance to see any of the ISD in personn, so I trust you.

I cant figure how they weathered it (not exhaust or blast weatherings, but overal weathering). Did they spray very thin coat of gray (or any other color) over the white coat ?

Jay you tell me that dust or antique white is too warm. But is the true color (or what you see of it under the lights :p) warm ? Or cold ? I was first thinking to use tamiya paints, with a touch of black and buff to warm it up a bit (about 98:1:1).

Well I have an old MPC ISD... I should try on it :lol

OH... MY... :eek:eek:eek

DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!!!! :eek:eek

Julien!!! I would be lying if I stated that I wasn't completely floored with this last photo post.

YOU ARE THE KING OF SD SIR!!! This build is FAR better than ANYTHING ILM produced!

I SO WANT ONE!!! ;) lololololol

Re: 40" 1/2 ISD scratchbuilt [Close to the end...] updates 09/21

Well, it is true that I have no way of knowing if Dust is displaying correctly on my monitor. Is there a Pantone # for it? We have a swatch guide thingie here...

Re: 40" 1/2 ISD scratchbuilt [Close to the end...] updates 09/21

This is absoluely AMAZING... it's mind boggling to think of all the hard work you've put into creating all the tiny little details, like the 'cranes'... I never even knew they were there!! (But then again I'm only a casual admirer of scale models of the Star Wars ships... but I know what I like the look of!) :love

Well done MonsieurTox - can we see some pics of the model with someone standing beside it, to give an idea of scale?

Cheers,
John

LOLOLOLOL... well... at least you and the model are photo worthy Julien! :lol I love that photo of us together! :D Thank you for beautiful home to meet your wonderful family and showing me your amazing work! I was a true pleasure my friend!

I absolutley believe that this is the BEST detailed Star Destroyer work I have EVER seen! And I will say it again... Julien is a prodegy MASTER of this artform!

That fuselage I hold in my hands within the photo, that was taken at Julien'shome on France, is of RED3. It was Julien's first attempt at using an airbrush! Looks like a PRO job to me! You can view it in his RED 3 thread.

I cannot wait to see this piece finished!

It is going to be placed in an exhibition I think. Is that right Julien?

Whatever happens to it, I can say that even the detailed photos, that we are all drooling over, don't do it the true justice it shows of itself in person! Julien probably had to mop up the floor of my salivations when I left! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

I'm glad that you explained that, cause it kinda looks like you've just grabbed one of MonsieurTox's X-Wing models and deliberatly broken it... and you're laughing in a manic, evil way... MWAHAHAHAHAHA! :love

That's a really nice scale, judging by the size of the model... definitely big enough to impress, and to show off all the minute details :thumbsup
Speaking of which, I hope you're going to display it on a mirriored base, to show off all the hard work you've done on the hangar and underside of the ship...

Great work MonsieurTox - looking forward to seeing it complete and fully illuminated :love

Cheers,
John

Re: 40" 1/2 ISD scratchbuilt [Close to the end...] updates 09/24

Thanks Kurt ! Hopefuly it would be ready for the next summer ! ;)
Yeah, it will be displayed in an exhibit in november (not finished thoug :()

Thanks John :)

Yeah it's not too big, I can save place for it, but big enough to be well detailled.
Yeah Im thinking about the mirror, I would have to drill a hole into it for the stand though !

Ive started to paint it :

Im pleased with the result ! :)

What colours have you used? Looking great. If Randy's SD is even half as good as yours I'll be a happy bunny!

Re: 40" 1/2 ISD scratchbuilt [let's paint her !] updates 09/29

I continue to be amazed with your work, the detail is fabulous

Re: 40" 1/2 ISD scratchbuilt [let's paint her !] updates 09/29

this is simply amazing wow...

Re: 40" 1/2 ISD scratchbuilt [let's paint her !] updates 09/29

Looks like you've gotten the color pretty darn close. maybe a TOUCH - a small touch dark, but that could easily be the "lacK' of washout form the camera flash. It looks VERY good to me. If you get a cahnce please post the colors you used.

Thanks!

Re: 40" 1/2 ISD scratchbuilt [let's paint her !] updates 09/29

Thanks guys ! :D

Glad you think the color works Jedi Dade since you saw the filming model in person !

I only saw the big bridge in personn, I dont know if the color used on it are the same which is used on the 8ft.

As for the color, it's a 50/50 mix of tamiya flat white and sky gray. I added a touch of tan though to warm up the color !

Re: 40" 1/2 ISD scratchbuilt [let's paint her !] updates 09/29

I, too, think it could be a tad too dark (needs to be lighter not warmer) but nevertheless it is beautiful.

Here's a color comparison pic

I did some quick photo hacking. I took a pic that I had from the MOM tour and overlayed Tox's pic of a similar area of the model. When yo ufactor in that the MoM pic had a vaguely yellow/orange incandescent light above it - along with my camera flash I think that the color match or pretty close like a said before maybe a TOUCH too dark but really only slightly - cerainly not worth repainging for ;) Really good job Tox!

I really gotta figure out that picture/attatchment thing... Duh...
