Since MR used these photos as reference why does the MR replica saber look more like the recently auctioned copper/brass neck one and not the brown/black neck one? I am confused.

Edit: On a review of the pictures it looks like the brown/black neck might just be heavily oxidized copper and brass. I guess if uncoated they could have oxidized quickly after production and MR was aware.

Your guess is as good as anyone else’s. They likely saw more than one. These were the images Steve D. had along with all his other reference images.

My personal theory is that they were going for an idealized saber. A couple of the other props have brighter necks. So they kinda took the geometry from one and coloration from somewhere else.

They were making display pieces. So they made bright metal colors and plated thick brass parts so as not to get parts damaged in manufacturing

I don't think that's the case. I think it's painted, like the propstore version, just a different shade of bronze

Looks like the touring/display saber is up for auction this year. Lot # 362 : STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE SITH (2005) - Obi-Wan Kenobi's (Ewan McGregor) Hero Lightweight Lightsaber

One thing to note is that the pommel and certain parts of the emitter were sometimes chromed plastic, sometimes machined aluminum. So you’re going to get a lot of variation there.

The neck/windvane pieces were almost always plastic, with the color and swirl pattern baked right in. No paint applied. So my guess is that the color variations are just variations in how the plastic was mixed. An extra drop of dye here or there can make a big difference.

Those are some of the worst photos I've seen for an auction, especially for something that should sell for the price of a nice car!

Sometimes, I like artsy photos, but there have to be at least some clear ones. Looks like they clipped the background, and gave it a false reflection, which I find annoying, but whatever. The black on black really kills the contrast, and it just doesn't look that good. . You can zoom in real close, which is nice, but that's about it.

The dyed resin makes so much sense.. it always looked slick surface wise, aka unpainted and couldn’t make heads or tails of that. Thank you!

Probably the most unique element of this saber. Is that the gear shaped greeblie is held by a screw rather then being a screw itself. And it's chrome plated.

The SWI one does look to have the bolt on the gear shaped greeblie.

I looove this version of hilt. It's the lightweight hero version. I believe the archive also chose to use it touring exhibits as the heavy weighted versions drooped the belts too much. Very cool!!

Is there any more info on this particular hilt? Looks like an all metal construction which isn't the case with the hilts auctioned off.

It is not entirely metal… the thin necks, booster, and grenade appear to be cast… although carefully painted.

Personally I bet on this one being what they would consider their ‘closeup’ hilt. Potentially the donor for the clamp casting?
