Limited Run Mission Impossible Leather IMF Folder (original series)

I had thought that the folder might be held until the dossiers could ship with it, but no matter.

So, in the end, how does the final, shipped version of the folder differ from the original description in Post #1?

We decided to ship right away as some guys were anxious for these. There were a lot of little tweaks in the final version: size increased (especially a wider spine), not interior corner tabs, changed snap tab a little bit and increased size of gold text. I'll have updated photos on the site early next week.

Hopefully we'll have the dossier files done in about two weeks.

Received mine today. They look great. Thanks!

I've been watching Mission Impossible recently and these look really spot on.

I also never knew that Mission Impossible started the same year as Star Trek, 1966, at the same studio, Desilu, at that a lot of the same people were in both. They even used some sets from Star Trek in the show and I just saw one with George Takei.

Quite a few props from TOS were reused in M:I after it ended. The ones that I have spotted include the Saurian Brandy bottle, one of the Enterprise chairs repainted red but with the same custom back piece, the same type of perforated brass that was used for the communicators, an actual redshirt uniform with the Starfleet emblem, and a few of the 'room number' signs.

Ok, I did two test dossier files:

Of the two trims, I think the straight chrome looks better in person (the one on the right). It's a standard mirror-chrome, so shiny when reflecting light and dark otherwise. The left is a satin silver with carbon fibre pattern. Although it does have a satin sheen, it's pretty much always a light grey color regardless of lighting/reflection.

The only down side with the chrome is that it shows every imperfection in the laying down of the tape (little wrinkles, etc). It's not as noticeable in person, more so in photos.

Thanks for prepping the test files, Indy!

Is there any way to get a closer match to the pattern on the tape used on the screen-seen folders?

It appears, from the many screenshots uploaded by DB537, that at least two different types of tape were used.

Of those two types, the majority of the files were made with a tape that has what looks like a checkerboard or grid pattern:

The checkerboard or grid pattern above reminds me of something you might find on a prop from Star Trek, which, like Mission: Impossible!, was in production at Desilu and then Paramount.

The other type of tape represented in the screenshots looks as if it has a pattern of vertical lines or ridges running parallel to the long side of the file:

The checkerboard pattern, in particular, is to me distinctively associated with these dossier folders.

While the test folders you've made look good -- especially with Willy's and Barney's dossiers in them! -- they lack the desirable grid pattern of the tape seen most often on the dossiers.

Is there any chance of finding -- or making -- a tape that reproduces that distinctive pattern?

I've looked all over for different tape designs, but the only thing I could find is that carbon fiber pattern. If anyone can find another option, please let me know! The sizing for the tape should be about 1" wide (so 1/2" when folded around the edge).

Here's one that I found. Not perfect but it might work. I don't know if the company will sell it in small quantities or not.
