All of which are technical terms - except shortgun - never heard that term before. Laser Sword is slang.
And let's be honest a lightsaber is not a saber.
This is a saber
This is a sword
Definition of saber
1: a cavalry sword with a curved blade, thick back, and guard
2a: a light fencing or dueling sword having an arched guard that covers the back of the hand and a tapering flexible blade with a full cutting edge along one side and a partial cutting edge on the back at the tip — compare ÉPÉE, FOIL entry 4
I imagine that laser sword is a term used by people who aren't very knowledgeable about the Jedi. Anakin, for instance calls Qui-Gon's saber a laser sword.
Right. A lightsaber is not a one handed curved sword. It is a two handed straight longsword. Which is what I was trying to say. In my defense I was up late and I haven't had my coffee yeta saber is a type of sword.

Not as elegant as “illuminated rapier”.Lightsaber still sounds more elegant to me.
In a way, you can still see this in ANH in rhe final film. The colored in blade has a flat quality to it.I'm partial to "light foil." After all that's what they were originally intended to be before they took on a long sword, katana vibes.
Yeah when I was a kid I would "use the Force" for telekinesis and to be able to jump higher and sometimes do flips. But mostly because I wanted you be proficient with a lightsaber.
GASP!!! OH the horror!(an Abednedo gets called a Rodian twice in the authors own descriptions)
Oh I realize it is nit picky, I was just utterly confused when a Rodian was suddenly present and “doubled over laughing”GASP!!! OH the horror!
Just kidding, a little. That's a pretty significant mistake that someone from the Story Group should have caught. That's the kind of thing I was talking about when I was saying how messy having One True Canon is going to be when everything has to fall in line.
Jan Dodonna died a year after Yavin.I’m reading Aftermath right now, and boy is this a messy book for being canon. Multiple instances of mistaken alien species (an Abednedo gets called a Rodian twice in the authors own descriptions) and I’m pretty sure he thinks Madine is Dodonna because he describes the former as having a “prodigious white beard” and deep lines in his face.
And Crix Madine doesn’t have a prodigious white beard, but the author might not know either of those things if he thinks one is the other.Jan Dodonna died a year after Yavin.
Remind me, what's of the time frame of Aftermath? And Crix Madine doesn’t have a prodigious white beard, but the author might not know either of those things if he thinks one is the other.
Early New Republic era, I believe.Remind me, what's of the time frame of Aftermath?
