For me, it would be too little, too late. Even if they cleaned house the damage is already done. I don't trust Filoni or Favreau to run it any better than Kennedy did. Filoni least of all. That guy's a hack and I think even some of his most adamant suporters are starting to see it. We've had enough rectons where I can't muster the energy to "forget" about previous incarnations.

The only thing that truly interests me is my pipe dream of getting the OT properly restored to 4K Blu-ray. Maybe a few lisenced items here or there, but that aside, this new Star Wars is for the birds. I've got 1977 to 1996. I can live with that. All great stories come to an end. Dragging them on forever ruins them.
What, you don't want to see Star Wars Episode X: The Rise of the Gungans?

*runs for the door*

If I was Favreau, I would only accept Kennedy's job on the condition that I get as much control over the division as she's had.
If Jon Favreau replaces Kennedy, then he should demand to have the kind of control that Kennedy has had over LFL. That's what it will take.

I am hearing that Jon has done exactly that. The sign will be the lack of a Kennedy renewal.

All they have to do is fire & replace a lot of people. They could get it done in 6 months if they actually wanted to.

Firing anyone who participated in this “White Board Session” would likely be a good place to start…

IDK I always, as a man, go to the theater and say "Oh I really hope this has a lot of stuff about feelings in it!" The whole thing with movies and videogames now where they have to have "relatable characters" is utter horse crap. I have nothing in common with a bunch of commandos being hunted by an alien in a jungle, and it was awesome. I don't need all my movies to be about a 47yo white guy who doesn't exercise enough to enjoy the movie.

Relatabe character is simply a character who's motivations and actions you can understand or sympathise with NOT a literal biographical entity.
I don't think Sci-Fi, fantasy or Horror as genres would have really found their huge adoring audience if it was that literal ;)

SW isn't designed to appeal to 45yo men. Never was. This stuff is "all ages" entertainment at best. That means guys like us are not the target demographic anymore. We grew up.

Our parents were middle-aged when the original SW came out and they weren't into it like we were. They watched grownup stuff with moral ambiguities and fewer action scenes & magic powers.

Disney was correct in thinking they should aim their new SW content at Gen-Z. They just did a bad job at it. The fact that it's made for kids is not an excuse to make crap, nor to alienate the older fanbase.

Kennedy is probably out the door soon.

Filoni's record doesn't inspire confidence.

Favreau seems like the best hope for SW now. He's not perfect, but neither was George 'Jar-Jar' Lucas. There is no perfect new James Bond actor, there is no perfect new signer for Van Halen, and there is no perfect new boss of SW. That's not how creative stuff works.

I think each collection has a few items that have mass appeal (the Death Star filming model, for example) and are worthy of actual museums. The rest? Eh... Who's going to care about this stuff in a few more decades, especially after the brand's been so thoroughly tainted? How many people are there now who would line up to see a collection of cereal boxes (like, really?)?

The problem is that Disney doesn't know who their audience is. Is it for kids? Is it for middle age (mostly) men? Is it for twelve year olds? Is it for a new generation, or the original generation who grew up with it? Is it for a new demographic that never showed much interest before?

They don't know, and fans can't even agree who SW is really for. Add in company leaders with different agendas (political or otherwise) and it's bound to be a mess.

In reality, the audience is whoever is paying for the content and the merchadise and talking about it online. Those are the customers. Sure, kids may watch this stuff, but it's mostly middle aged adults who grew up with it that actually give a crap and are spending money on it.

I think going further than that :- thinking about audience demographic instead of just telling great stories and letting it find the audience is the problem with corporate style "entertainment"
Stop focus grouping and start spinning tales...OR keep quiet until you have some great yarns to spin.

Absolutely. Business 101. If you make a great product, the customers will buy it.

That's true if customer retention is your goal, and it can certainly be an influence to get new customers, but I think Disney isn't going for specific audiences because they have delusions of grandeur: to get "all the viewers everywhere". I think this is why the new content is watered down and appeals to very few specifically, and why Disney is letting individuals with agendas make the content: they're trying to get into all the corners.

This was not Lucas' way. He knew his audience: it was himself and his family.

Ideally that is what they mean. However "relatable character" is being visualized in videogames. That's why Sony put out Concord which had a 300lb. player model; like that person could do any kind of combat. A certain demographic thinks you can't have a story unless you literally see yourself represented in the game or movie. However, in reality you sometimes learn more about other people when you see other people who aren't like you.

Disney is liable to try using AI for scripts next. Or maybe uncontacted tribes in the Amazon.

I wish I was kidding. They seem willing to try anything other than starting production with a good (and finished) script.

If I wasn't done with new SW I might welcome them trying to use AI to write a SW show. It would probably be a LOT better than their human writers.
