Oh no, I has a sad now. I'm sorry. :(

No worries, he was a good guy. Met him in the big brother program, he was a fellow mentor.

Went for a simple surgery and just passed away on the table...

Very good man. Helped a lot of people, also a Star Wars fan!

Anyone here use to hang out in Star Wars chat rooms on AOL back in the late 90’s?

Just curious if anyone remembers the chat room “sims”

100%%%

Though this is my favorite logo out of them all... can anyone tell why?! ;)

Because it's got the original blue blade?

I do love this one. It's really a "zoom" in of the original poster.

And most recently for a TLJ poster.

I had that original poster on my bedroom wall as a kid.

That reminds me. The old drive in theatre had 2 murals at the concession in the late 70s. One of Star Wars and one of Battlestar Galactica.

In the analogy you're using you are in Luke's position and your friend is in Ben's. So it doesn't really apply. In TLJ Luke wasn't startled from a sound sleep thinking he was being attacked. It certainly looked to me like he was wide awake and seriously considering killing his sleeping nephew.

But he was startled. He peered into Ben's mind, and he was shocked at how far Ben had gone. He wasn't expecting to see Ben dreaming of killing his mother, his father, Chewie, R2, 3PO, Luke's students and whoever else Luke cared about. It's a knee jerk reaction to some extreme darkness that beyond what he imagined.

Joe, you're ignoring the context of my statement, read posts thoroughly so you don't respond with knee jerk reactions.

It's the biggest point of contention I have with the movie. My other issues with it aside but this was the death stroke for me. That's when I knew without a doubt that I was done with this trilogy.

That remains one of the most interesting things about TLJ. How you can take someone who doesn't like TLJ, have them list the things they don't like about it. And it will be be pretty much everything I love about it. How does that even work? I mean take any other Star Wars film and generally everyone likes the same things, and dislikes the same things.

Not ignoring the context. Just saying something that popped into my head while reading your post.
My apologies, since you replied specifically to my post I assumed you were replying to what I had said. Blurting out things that pop into your head without context is very George Lucas-y of you though! ;)

No need to apologize. I need work on clarifying what I say. I forget that so much is lost in the communication when it's just text on a screen.

Yeah it's just a matter of different tastes I guess. One thing is for sure. It's hands down the most divisive film in the entire series.

Either you see it or you don't. I've stated my views on the movie on multiple occasions. I'm glad you like the movie. I hated it. But to each their own.
Oh, I can clearly understand why some could see it that way.

No analogy is perfect. What I meant to get across is just the idea of a visceral reaction. It is worth remembering as well that we see two different versions of the scene and neither is necessarily 100 percent reliable. As I say, I can see why you interpreted it the way you did, and I'm not saying your reaction isn't valid as well.

I don't think you understand what analogy means. ;)

Three versions. Luke recounted his biased one, then Kylo told Rey his crazy-uncle one, then we got a look at what was in Luke's mind as he admitted to Rey he'd toned it down the first time. That last is probably the closest to objective without knowing we're watching it as it happened.

And yes, Luke was already on edge from what he was feeling from Ben's room, what woke him up. When he got close enough and felt the sheer depth of the horrors coming out of Ben's dreams -- horror beyond imagination -- he basically "flinched for his gun". As he said, his impulse was one of "I can end this now." Same as when he gave in and attacked the Emperor in ROTJ, except that he didn't go that far. He didn't immediately attack this darkness that was, to what he sensed, worse. He was looking in surprise at the lightsaber he was realizing he'd just pulled and ignited, dulled a bit by what was still going through his head, and looked back at Ben to see him awake and looking at Luke standing over him with an ignited lightsaber. He reacted before Luke could shut it down and say "Sorry, your dreams totally freaked me out. I think we need to have a loooooong talk -- with an ysalamiri present."

What amazes me is how that was obvious to me on first viewing, remains obvious to me on subsequent viewings, and that others can somehow see that as "Luke contemplating murdering his nephew." A fleeting impulse -- resisted, I might add -- is not "contemplating". Contemplating is what I do when I can't decide what I want at McDonald's, or when choosing what project I'm going to work on today. Serious consideration. Not a there-and-gone "whoa, what was that?" intrusive thought. Luke was as much contemplating killing Ben as I contemplate jerking the wheel and plowing through the guardrail and over a drop off when I'm driving. It pops into my head, it's unsettling, I don't seriously consider it as an option, and I certainly don't act on it. But it is there.

So a while back I came across a series of gifs. I though they were a little thought provoking. I've been meaning to share them for awhile. They're on my Pinterest so I hope they can be viewed.

I find it's a common theme in Star Wars with the Skywalker men. That they let their emotions, particularly fear, and anger get the better of them. Yoda says there is much fear in Anakin, and anger in Luke.

Another theme I find common with Anakin and Luke. Is how they both try to prevent certain outcomes But in the act of trying to prevent it, they end up ensuring said outcome. Anakin tries to save his wife by making a deal with the "devil". But the outcome is he ends up causing her death. Luke similarly, tires to prevent the death and destruction of everything he cares about at the hands of his nephew. Yet he ends up being the catalyst for the death and destruction of all he cared about.

I dig these posters. The first one is so iconic. I really wish more movie posters weren't just lazy photoshopped garbage and they hired artists to paint them ala Drew Struzan. I miss that element of the movie going experience. Seeing all the wonderful artwork as you walked to your theater.
