So appolgies, but I'm going to ramble for a bit. I never really did this, but I had some thoughts this morning at 2am, sick, sipping some mint tea, watching Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars.

Oh and happy Easter!!!

So I love it when a show or video game does something obscure that only the most hard core fan will notice. Like the fact the laser cannons don't necessarily fire in straight line from the muzzle of the barrel.

And you know what? Battlefront 2(DICE) totally does this! It's such a weird thing. I don't know if it was intentional, or just a side effect of having the lasers shoot exactly where the aiming reticle is. But it's super cool, and I love it!

And here's another thing I like. The A-wing has thrust vectoring ring behind the engines.

Well in Rogue Squadron 2, they actually have the rings move from side to side, when you turn! But for some reason they didn't in Rogue Squadron 3. In Battlefront(DICE) they have them move as well. But again in the sequel, they didn't. But it's such a cool feature in the other two games.

Then the final thing. The N-1 Starfighter, is absolutely my favorite ship in all of the Prequels.

It's so beautiful and unique. But there's so few games that let you fly it! Due to it only being a major feature in one film. The most famous game being Star Wars Starfighter, which is such a fun game. But as far as I know that is the only game where it's one of the main ships. Rogue Squadron 2 and 3 would let you fly it if entered a code. It's such a fun ship, and the cockpit is fabulous. The ship was set to appear in the Naboo Plains map of the original Battlefront, but it was cut. It made it's glorious reappearance in Battlefront rendered in all it's beauty by the Unreal Engine, but it's only in a couple of maps and modes, and none of them offline. It's so frustrating to have such an iconic ship get so underutilized in Star Wars games.

Okay ramble over. Thanks.:)

The N-1's are actually pretty cool, love the rounded shape to them. I don't usually enjoy yellow anything but it works well here.

Just started listening to the book, Ahsoka, on audio, read by Ashley Eckstein.

It‘s great to have Ashley portray Ahsoka again! The story is somewhat a slow-start, so hope it picks up...

Slight tangent here, but Vader was able to get off a couple rounds at Luke's X-Wing right before the Falcon showed up and blew up his wingman. At the time Vader fired those shots, he was locked on target... how the Hell did he manage to miss Luke?

That actually really bugs me that in ANH the lasers on Vader's TIE steer to the X-Wings. If I had to guess, I think they did that as a cheat so they didn't have to alter the shot and put his TIE right behind the X-Wing. If so it's another minute detail that the games/books/etc. picked out and then now decided that's a feature or trait for a vehicle or species. It's like how they decided that all Rodians are bounty hunters, all Weequay work for Hutts, etc.

For the 50th Anniversary the old pre-Disney Star Wars comics are being re-released in what is being called the Epic Legends Collection. I think there are currently five volumes out now and volume five is the complete Dark Empire trilogy picking up six years after the Battle of Endor, which originally ran from 1991 to 1995. This trilogy is what the sequel movie trilogy should have been based on instead of cherry picking pieces of it and remixing them in the Disney blender. If anyone is interested in picking up any of the volumes, make sure this is one of them.

I agree with some of the criticisms of Dark Empire but it's definitely a better story than the ST and worth reading. Nice to see what happens to the OT characters after ROTJ before they're elderly. Dark Empire graphic novels and comics published by Dark Horse can still be found.

I think regarding the tie fighters, they are relatively crude ships made for mass production so may not have the best aim.

I dont remember where I learned this but I swear I read before that the x-wing was meant to be the new ships for the Empire (they had a contractor design the ships) and the plans were stolen by the rebels which is why they had relatively better ships. It made sense imo (why would rebels with limited funds have better ships) and another thing I disliked about TLJ (no Rose, the fat cats made weapons for the Empire because it was a huge government contract that helped pay millions of workers. Its not their fault the damn rebels stole their product and used it against them).

About the Naboo ships, I always assumed they dont appear in games much because they arnt great ships for fighting. Naboo is relatively peaceful, hence the mirror chrome ship which offers no tactical advantages whatsoever. They are good for some self defense but in a war, you want the big guns like an A or X wing.

Btw, not sure how “legitimate” this is but this is what we know about Lucas’ proposed sequel.

To me, its really clear that Lucas knows a bit about war, notably the motivations for it as Star War is focused on how states rise and fall.

The republic fell due to political deadlock during a time of crisis, resulting in the rise of a dictator who never gave up power much like Rome.

Abuse of power centralized in one authority makes a common enemy, allowing allies to be made to fight against the oppressor, resulting in the rebellion to overthrow the tyrant.

But the most volatile period would be after the revolution is won. After a successful revolt, there is an absence of clear authority because no one has a monopoly yet. With no clear authority, it is a ripe breeding ground for ambitious people to seize power. Stormtroopers probably had it good relatively under the Empire and would want to reestablish the system, also having access to training and weapons. I doubt the rebellion all had the exact same vision of a new government and new leader and would have fallen into infighting (aka French Revolution and Napoleon’s rise).

I do wonder how Leia would have “saved” the galaxy since I dont think her becoming supreme chancellor and being the “chosen ruler” is the answer Lucas wants to give. Luke definitely wouldnt have died since he needs to reestablish the jedi order.

Maul as the villain of the ST would've been better than bringing back Palpatine (also one of the flaws of DE). Not killing off Luke, Leia saving the galaxy and reestablishing the Jedi would've been great as well. However when Lucas exerted full control over SW projects the results were mixed. If he wrote and directed the ST without really collaborating and micromanaged everything, it would've been far better than Disney's version of events but it would've most likely had the same types of issues as in the PT. Also he said that he wanted to expand/ further explain the role of midi-chlorians in his ST. No thank you.

The X-Wings, in the old EU, were supposed to be prototypes for the Empire, but the Incom designers defected with all the engineers, design staff, and prototypes. It makes sense since Incom also designed the ARC-170.

As for the Naboo fighters, I seem to recall reading something that said their performance was similar to a X-Wing, though it's older so it couldn't match an X-Wing. They weren't just there to look pretty. I imagine it's similar to the Swiss always being neutral, but they have some pretty neat fighters.

I agree Lucas isnt the savior and he does need someone to bounce ideas off of but I honestly think thats true of any creative endeavor, especially as the medium becomes more complex. Tolkien got some support from CS Lewis while mapping out Middle Earth for Lord of the Rings. Manga is often created as a team of at least 2 people (one to write the story and dialogue and one to draw). TV has a team of writers, let alone the rest of the production staff. Movies even more so.

I think Lucas knew that himself, hence why the first thing he did when making PT was to reach out to veteran directors like Howard or Spielberg to direct. They unfortunately turned him down.

I honestly didn't know that he reached out to others to direct the PT. Glad he tried. Agree that creativity flourishes when there are others to bounce ideas off of.

Yeah. Lucas tends to be self-deprecating and says stuff like he isnt a good director and the king of wooden dialogue but he still knows his limits.

The directors seemed to refuse because 1) Star Wars is Lucas’ baby and 2) Lucas does backseat direct and the directors may not want their control stifled. Lucas basically directed ANH, handed over the reigns to his former professor for ESB, and backseat directed RotJ. He also had people to bounce ideas off of with Producer Kurtz and his wife and editor who are also considered the unsung heroes of star wars.

I do think some fans overhype Kurtz and he does have a darker take on Star Wars but he did help Lucas alot.
