Maybe they recognized R2 and didn't want such a valuable asset in the hands of a rookie? :p
That sounds just like such an idea that could make it into a new Star Wars novel.
Perhaps the tech who uttered the line was really an undercover operative, working for the Black Sun syndicate, hoping to sell the droid to Xizor, who would provide it to the Emperor.
Because every background character in Star Wars needs to have a contrived story that involves several other important characters.

But what's his sexual orientation? That's what really matters.

Every single character is special so they can all get their very own action figure participation trophy.
Merchandising, where the real money for the movie is made!

So something I was just thinking of. With all of George's tinkering with the OT. How come he never fixed the Y-wings not having astromechs?

Darn it! Now I can't unsee that! Did the model shop just forget about them? There's obviously a slot for one. That's something they should have fixed in the SE instead of a Ronto walking through the scene...

Technically they didn't need an astromech because they weren't using their hyperdrives. They just wouldn't have one for repairs and other things they do.

Rupert Friend is always good. He must have got a significant character to play.

And if there is an actor with the same name as a planet in the GFFA, you've gotta have her. ;)

Hoping Moses Ingram is Grand Admiral Rae Sloane. I've been hoping for her to make an appearance in live action for a while now.

To revisit the SE changes we liked, I think that the ending music for the ROTJ SE is a big improvement over the Ewok music from the theatrical version. I don’t think there’s another time in the franchise when there’s singing in English, and so it’s jarring in that sense, and having the trilogy end with a choir of people belting out “Celebrate the love” is something I can do without. Like “Lapti Nek” and “Jedi Rocks” it sounds dated rather than timeless like most of the rest of the score (I think both of the songs at Jabba’s are equally awful and equally dated, at this point,) and I think the melody of the SE version is much more emotionally resonant.

I could do without “weesa free,” though. Here I’m purely talking about the music.

Completely agree about Lapti Nek. It sounded terrible, and Jedi Rocks is not much better, though at least it doesn't sound like bad 70s dance music.

Yub Nub was also god-awful, and the change to the orchestral ending music was significantly better.

Couple of SE changes I never minded:
-Expanding the detachment that Vader sent down to Tatooine from just a couple of guys and a cavalryman on a static, and obviously rubber dewback prop, to the dewback now moving, and there being additional soldiers. I honestly kind of wish they did this with the TIEs during the Death Star assault, and added in a bunch more TIEs to make it feel like they were actually trying to do more than the bare minimum to protect their brand new Death Star.
-Speeding up the Tantive IV and Star Destroyer chase
-fixing the lightsaber discolorations in ANH
-adding additional flare to the Falcon's escape from Tatooine.
-Minor sound effect additions in ANH
-Cleaning up the muffled dialogue in the trilogy.
-Cleaning up the garbage mattes in the trilogy (still haven't fixed the issue with the X-Wings in the fleet in RotJ, tho!)
-expanding on the physical layout of Mos Eisley.
-Expanding on the explosions of Alderaan and the Death Star. Nostalgia is a helluva drug, and those explosions both looked very dated.
-alternating the X-Wings in the line up and desynchronizing their S-foils. The original effect looked dated.
-Additional scenes of the Wampa. The original cut of Luke escaping was rather anticlimactic. I just wish they fixed the deactivating lightsaber effect.
-Replacing Clive Revell's Emperor with MacDiarmid. I just with they didn't use his RotS make up, which made his face look fat, and the hood looked ridiculously large.
-None of the additional shots of Cloud City bothered me.
-I never minded the addition of the beak on the Sarlacc. It made it look more interactive and less like an angry sand vagina.
-The additional shots of Oola's death
-Boba Fett flirting
-removing Vader's eyebrows in the unmasking scene
-Making the Ewoks blink
-better Death Star explosion effect

Are you confusing the movie-version of Lapti Nek with the spiced-up disco version?

I absolutely hate Jedi Rocks. It broke the fourth wall by in effect becoming a musical interlude and by singing about Jedi. Jabba would not have allowed a song about Jedi. The new male singer and the "enhanced" Sy Snootles look cartoonish and CGI.

The original scene was not about the music more than necessary. It was first about setting up the setting, the characters and the atmosphere in Jabba's throne room, but the focus shifted to Oola early on and stayed there until the point that she fell through the trap door.
The Jedi Rocks performance on the other hand puts the musical performance first, and intermixes that with Oola's struggle. Because the performance takes so much room, the editing is rushed so as to not extend the length of the scene too much.

The thing about Lapti Nek, is everyone hated it. George hated it. Richard hated it. John hated it. But they just couldn't hit on anything they liked. So it's no surprise that the song got replaced. If you want to learn more check out(as I recall) the second episode for Return of the Jedi of The Soundtrack Show! Hosted by the David W Collins. Seriously the best podcast ever.

Only in this thread would I find commentary claiming that Jedi Rocks was an improvement over, well, anything.

I’ve made better music by whipping my arm up and down with my hand cupped over my armpit than that gibberish-laden noise-fest.

Here are the “lyrics”, which look like they were written by a focus group of 5 year olds during an afternoon recess:

Cha tung ee-ma chay-choo raun ta-nee-ee-choo
Ee-ma chay-too raun
Ko-nee nan-kee chong noy khan chay-chee-kum
Chee ka koo-ja oo pa-pa chee-ka-nang kee hey
Chee-ka nang kee hey
You bang ris-pa ka may wang pee-ya nay, yea
Oo-la-wang choo koo-chee-pa-tie
Tan-ga ris-pa ta ya lee oh

Yo, ahh, yal-lie!

Lapti Nek, on the other hand, is regarded as a musical masterpiece that routinely appears on the top 10 lists of the greatest musical works ever conceived of by man.

Nope, this version that sounds like crappy dance music:
Dude, crank that sweet tune on your sound system in your car, drop the top, and just watch the crowd come swarming over to your area and break out in a spontaneous line dance. It happens to me, every time.

They just can’t help themselves when the tune is this righteous. Look at this crowd lose themselves in the musical splendor of the Rebo Band. It’s popularly called The Sy Snootles Slide..
