To be fair, it wasn't just Obi-Wan. The rest of the Jedi were like "Pfff.... what? No way we'd have heard something by now. Go sit down." It was supposed to show, despite what the Jedi think, they are not aware of everything that is going on because they have become complacent and full of themselves.

I recently bought a portable digital projector to show a slideshow at my daughter's 18th birthday party. My grandfather's old silver-lite movie screen is in good condition but much smaller than I remembered and the wrong shape for wide screen presentation. So I just got a 100" wide screen with a tripod and christened it with The Meaning of Life at our camp site.
Saturday night I'm planning on setting up in the community area next to the pool at our resort and having a socially distance movie night for families.
4K77 will be the first weeks entertainment! (y)

I started rereading all my SW books that I really like (minus New Jedi Order, Legacy of the Force, Fate of the Jedi series) since around last July. Anyway a couple points. I remember a discussion on here months ago where people thought that the term "Dark Lord of the Sith" wasn't used until the Prequels because it never appeared in the OT. In Splinter of the Mind's Eye they use that term and it was out in 1978.

The other thing that always bugged me in the old EU is in most cases, up until the Yuuzhan Vong war, the New Republic (well the authors really) would send out completely inadequate fleets to counter problems. They would have an Imperial force of multiple Star Destroyers and support ships, and the New Republic would say "We need to stop them! But all we can send you is an Assault Frigate, an Escort Frigate, and a Fleet Carrier. Good luck!" They did the same thing the Sequel crew did to try to make this govt. with many fleets, reduced back to the Rebel Alliance for story purposes. Just once I would have liked to have had them fly the Lusankya (post X-Wing novels) and win without Luke and co doing something to turn the tide for the weaker fleet.

I mean, I could've told you that "Dark Lord of the Sith" has been around that long. I remember Mark Hamill referring to Vader that way in the "From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga" behind the scenes show.

The scene in ANH when Vader chokes the admiral had a longer run-up discussuion before Vader and Tarkin enter that was cut. There was a line there, something like "I'm telling you this Sith Lord the Emperor sent us will be our undoing". Every novelization referred to Vader as a Sith or Dark Lord as well. But true, was never uttered in the movies until the prequels.

Back in 1977, fans were exposed to a lot of terms that you did not hear in the movie. If you think about it, not only did you not hear Sith, but you did not hear things a like X-Wing, Grand Moff, Tusken Raider, etc... But thanks, to the early toys, trading cards, and comics this info was put out into the public early on. I never read the novelization of the book even though I have a 1976 printing but I would bet a lot of info is in that as well that was not spoken in the movie.

I know Dark Lord of the Sith was mentioned in the novel and while I haven't read it since I was a teenager I wouldn't be shocked if those other terms were mentioned in there.

Our resort manager put the kibosh on my movie in the park attempt a few weeks ago due to concerns about covid. So last night we had a private viewing of 4K77 at our site with one guest. A friend I work with is 23 and had never seen a single Star Wars movie before, so I invited him to watch it with us on a "big" screen. He really enjoyed it (LOVED the music!) and we had a 3 hour discussion about film making and practical effects afterwards.
We're going to watch ESB despecialized in a couple weeks before finishing the OT with 4K83.
Seeing it on an actual movie screen under the stars was a really magical experience. (y)
