Graflex 2.0 Sabers - Show your work / Talk Electronics

Sorry to bring the resistors up again... but I purchased the Tri Cree XPE2 BBW from SaberBay on Etsy. He said that I needed to use a 1w .5ohm resistor on the blue LEDS only. Are any of you using the same? I read through this thread and it seems that people are doing all sort of different things.

So....anyone have any advice on the resistor front?

What size allen wrench are people using to get that screw out that's right next to the glass eye? I've tried everything and I cant get it.

With a full charge you're looking at around 3W of power to each LED die in an XPE-2 setup, I'm thinking using something beefier would be recommended.
I don't quite understand (myself) why it seems so much more complicated to wire these LEDs. I suspect it's in the drivers from the soundboards themselves, because realistically, the battery should be quite happy to power these without issues. My NBv2 is finicky with my Luke ROTJ hero though.
Sidenote: this is why I'm going with an NEC board, for blue/green/white LEDs, no resistors needed.

I don't have my hilt yet so can't confirm but I think I read somewhere that a T6 torx is used somewhere...

Torx bits work but hex/alan wrenches are the proper tool to remove the screws, I can't recall what size right now since I'm not home

Does anybody know if the Graflex Shop's replacement red button and glass eye are direct replacements for the 2.0 ones? Same thread and length?:

Also, does anybody know if the activator strip switches offered by Spirit of OB 1 are momentary or latching? Need to know for the NB v3.:

I've decided to do an ANH and would like the red button to be the blade retention screw and fab up a shine-through glass eye with a Graflex Shop replacement if possible.

Thanks for any help, guys.

Momentary switches for your NBv3. The graflex shop's glass eye will work as far as I'm aware. There's a build on here comparing the various glass eyes.

From what I can see, you could cut off part of the back side and it would screw into the larger diameter hole in the 2.0 handle.

So how would you use the parks glass eye on the 2.0?

The old Parks V1 glass eye? Or the new one?

I just assume you mean the old V1 version that replicates the original glass eye with the spring and such attached.

The two on the left are the Vintage Eye with the spring, and the V1 Eye with modifications.

What I ended up doing is filing down the thread, so that it doesn't interfere with the blade plugs that we made, and then acts as a blade retention screw as well.

I use the Graflex Shop's Blade Adapter (GBA) which has the small threaded area much like the 2.0's blade holder. So we modified it to fit the V1 Glass Eye. A hole is drilled through where the 2.0 Glass Eye would normally go to fit the V1 Glass Eye. It will end up looking like this when lit up

The glass eye fits perfectly into it, as seen here.

This process would be the same with the 2.0. It does require a drill press though. I hope this helps!

It looks like a shaved down Parks replacement eye will be the best bet. Then just widen the hole on the blade holder and viola! shine-through glass eye. I emailed Jeff to see if he has any in stock and if it really is $20 shipping to the US. Jeez... :/

I haven't been able to check, but I don't know if the 2.0 has threading to hold the V1 glass eye on the actual body itself. So you may have to tap the actual blade holder to make it work.

Thanks for the info Jax! I was thinking the V1 glass eye and doing the same as you did but with the 2.0 blade holder. It didn't occur to me that it could still function as a blade retention screw but after seeing how long the lip is it should be able to no problem. Now if I can just get Jeff to send me one...

Ahhh... So the large hole is threaded in a vintage and V1... well I ordered this from The Graflex Shop:

I can take out the glass in the eye, drill a hole through it, replace the glass, glue it in place and use the red button as a blade retention screw as I'm going for an ANH and will use the bubble strip for activation. Man, this is gonna be so COOL... :)

Edit:

Or just be careful drilling through to the front and stop when I reach "glass" material. That way I wouldn't risk damaging the "glass" getting it out of the eye.

Just make sure if modify your glass eyes, you have to watch out for damaging the threads. If you're going to file down the 2.0 ones, make sure you level them off and ensure that they still function as intended. If you use the V1, you shouldn't have to file into the actual threads itself, just the excess material that holds the spring.

All of the allen screws except the grip screws are a 1/16". The grip screws are a 5/64".
