Graflex 2.0 Sabers - Show your work / Talk Electronics

Nice! Ordered mine in black as well. Figured I could sand it down with 600 grit until it was smooth and use whatever the Phasma guys are using to faux-plate the right bits.
Yeh, how come no one sands these smooth? Like everytime I see a GOTH chasis they straight up paint it and leave the texture....bothers my OCD big time, and you might want to look at alclad paint....youll paint it over gloss black and it gives you a chrome look

Those are some nice prints! Just remember to finish them properly, and if you're going for that metallic look and are going to use paint, a nice semi-gloss black under your coat of metallic paint will make it look great. I use Dupli-Color Automotive Body paints to get my metallic effects.

Edit: Fett 4 Real beat me to it! Of course the page updates after I post it...

I have a friend who paints model planes and he showed me alclad....that stuff is amazing. I think theres plenty of other "chrome" sprays but thats just the one I know works well. You need a SHINY black gloss under it to get a good result though....you could also use rub and buff I suppose.

True, if shiny is what you want then full on gloss is what you need. For me, personally, I would want to match it to the body of the Graflex, which to me would look more semi gloss/matte than shiny. But that's just personal preference!

Just for example, when I was building my Arcann Mask, I did the method I mentioned above, and used silver paint along the jawline. It came out very matte/semi gloss metal looking, which to me looks more like the finish on the Graflex.

FWIW the prints are already fairly smooth, . I'm not planning on painting most of it, primarily the spirals and vent sections in gold/silver, the rest will likely remain black. I don't mind some grain, I will want to tell people it's 3D printed when I show it off, not try and hide it. For me, this is first and foremost a functional piece with some decoration.

Thanks for the note on some gloss under the metallics though.

Quick question (not sure if it was asked before) but will the Graflex 2.0 button fit on a real gralfex ? if not could it be modded to?

I didn't sand mine down because I wanted it to have a cast aluminum look. Gives it an aged look. But did sand the interior piece.
Also, found the short that was causing my saber to be "touch activated". Fixed it up, and no more turning on with a touch.

I like many have purchased the new Graflex 2.0 from Korbanth. I have read all through the RPF compiling information to make my build easier (this is my first).
I thought it would be nice and easy to make this a place where others can show off their builds and talk about what they used, where they got it. Share best practices and learn from others mistakes and achievements.

Here is my WIP part list -

Helpful info -

- To disassemble the hilt you will need a T6 sized Torx key or bit (Available at any hardware store usually in a small precision tool set).

- Make sure you decide which saber version you want to make before you attach the grips.
The side with the wider spaced holes (6 holes) is for Empire Strikes Back (ESB) and The Force Awakens (TFA)
The opposite side (7 holes) is for A New Hope (ANH)

- To add the D Ring to the pommel you will use the supplied 2 longer screws. You will need a T8 sized Torx bit for these 2 screws.

Anyone know the difference between Vader's Vault's different blades? They have the option of "Standard Clear" or "Trans-White". What length blade are you guys using for your graflexes? Shine through or mirrored tip?

Well here's a fun glitch. I'm pretty sure I got sent the inner chassis part for a NBv3, not a Spark Color 2 (notice how much shorter the tray is). Have to check when I get home to see what the shipping label says.

My invoice shows I ordered a Spark board, but I see very obvious differences.
Edit: Rick (Darth Ryo) confirmed based on the photo that it's a NBv3...hopefully Shapeways can get me the correct one quickly.

Just ordered the GOTH Knight chassis - and now I wonder - is the kill key included in Part 2: Soundboard Module?
Or do you have to separately order the 4 x kill key pack?
Thanks

There wasn't one with mine so i'm going to say no.
Which reminds me, I need to order a kill key.

Oh yeah - it's included :)
Got an answer from Rick (DarthRyo) - didn't see it in the product page

"Hello,

Yes, the kill key is included.
On the model itself, it is kinda hidden in the middle of the chassis :)

Regards,
Rick"
