Graflex 2.0 Sabers - Show your work / Talk Electronics

Thanks, guys! :) It actually looks better in person. Apparently the Alclad forms a sort of prismatic 2-way mirror over the black, where if you look at it at an angle you see the black underneath but as you rotate it and see it straight on it looks silver. Very trippy... They say if you watch it dry under a microscope you can see the tiny particles stick together in a sheet and form the mirror in the lacquer.

If I do another one (which I will probably have to once my buds get a load of mine when it is finished), I'll try some other way of prepping the areas that I plan to Alclad so they are smoother. It's just such an intricate thing and I was afraid of losing detail.

I've warmed up a lot to my 28mm bass speaker, especially after bringing the volume to 1 below maximum - I brought it to my work (university administration) for the last couple of days and it's been awe-inducing for all who have held it, so obviously any nit-picks I have aren't seen at any level by those less detail-oriented. Opening up for the reveal chassis is a great moment.
Now I'm looking forward to May 4 and bringing in sabers with blades to play with.

Thinking about getting some copper tape to re-do the neck and control box of my SF Prodigal Son...
Also have to re-wire that whole saber, it's kind of a mess and needs proper resistors.

Where did you guys get your 30AWG wire? I bought some one ebay but it turned out to be single core and that's not going to work. I went to Radio Shack and they don't have it either. I did see some on Ebay but it was all outside of the USA (UK & China). Any local sources?

I used a combo of 28 and 30 gauge... both from eBay. 30 was probably from the same guy as everyone else used, that is selling it in a bundle with a selection of colours (in 1 or 3 meter lengths). Used that for the switch as it needs to pass between the body and chassis.

The 28 was actually a 3D printer ribbon that i then separated in various lengths at one end and kept joined at the board end. Turned out really well and it's nice and secure at the board joints too.

Don't be too concerned, there's plenty of room in there.

There's plenty of room unless you're using Darth Ryo's crystal chamber chassis. Then it's tight fit.

Are those metal film resistors? 2w, 1 ohm? I thought I read you should use ceramic ones though I have no idea why.

Exactly right!

I wasn't aware of the need for different ones. They are a little large but they all fit and seem to work ok.

I think most people are getting it from the same guy on eBay, I'll leave a link below. Be sure to message the seller directly. This way he can bypass eBay and sell to you directly thus avoiding eBay's slow ass international shipping times lol. It might even save you a little money. Just a little friendly tip he passed on to me ;)
