Graflex 2.0 Sabers - Show your work / Talk Electronics

Here's one that sold today, a vintage Graflex but with rewiring needs:

I'll be keeping an eye on this one:

Not that I'll be selling mine. Just blown away by how much they are going for.

Just to let you know brother, I'm pretty sure it's against forum rules to post active auctions, unless it's for purposes such as showing fraudulent or recast and such.

My build is basically done (unless I can get one of Jax's blade plugs someday, or I drill out a TGS glass eye) and now I'm looking toward display options.

I've got a SF Prodigal Son (Luke ROTJ Hero) already, and one of the Darklyte two-tier stands on order; I thought having the two together would make sense. Are there any templates floating around for getting plaques engraved? I mocked this up last night for a 2x8 plaque, though I'll probably re-design with a smaller SW logo now that I'm looking at it again today.
Any particularly good sources for engraving?

Talking about the auctions? I think it's more along the lines of having money, and not being interested or caring remotely about the process behind something.
While I certainly thing $15k is well beyond any reasonable amount for an fx lightsaber, $1000 isn't so far out of the range; I've spent probably $600+ on materials alone for my 2.0 build, so getting paid for the work and time behind assembly isn't too bad.

Yea....200 for the hilt....380 for service plus extras....so 600 plus not bad!.....but 1000 plus....

The VV Flex builds are easily the most economical way to get a functional graflex saber right now as far as I can tell;

Doing this by myself:
Graflex 2.0 - $200
Battery - $10
Speaker - $6.50
Recharge - $2.75
LED - $25
Wire - $9
Taps/handle/drill bit - $20
Chassis - $80
Heatsink - $25
Sound card - $116
Crystal - $1
Switch Holder - $16
Blade - $43
Clamp card - $10
Kobold - $15
Glass Eye (TGS) - $17

Grand total: 596.25

I would guess I spent maybe 12-15 hours getting everything together, so if I give myself minimum wage ($12.25 in SF) for 15 hours, I'm up to $780. I'd definitely want to get upwards of $800 in order to actually sell this.

I find that as a prop builder, the amount of money one spends is irrelevant, as long as you get what you want for a fair price (key word being fair). People may or may not be too electronically inclined, so some offer services while others pay for them. That's great, it's a part of this community that I love: seeing others offer services to those who may not have the ability to do what others can't. Don't get me wrong, I cringe at the idea of anyone spending $1500 or more on a Graflex that may or may not be a replica, with a acrylic crystal chamber kit from FX forums that the person selling it probably spent maybe 30 minutes of soldering to put together. It's insane, but I guess if they really want it that bad, they'll do it.

I kind of look at my Arcann Mask as the pinnacle of my point I guess :p I'll take a try at listing all the expenses that went into it:

Over 80 hours of modeling in Rhino (since it was only just announced via trailer)
$137 for a 3D print of the mask itself
$200 on Bondo body filler, spot putty, and assorted sand paper
$50 on paint
$100 on casting materials
3 weeks of perfecting every detail and edge of a rough 3D print all by hand
$15 for brass sheets
$50 for dremel and assorted bits

Over all, from start to finished product, I started modeling in August of 2015 and finished the mask the last week or so of December 2015.

The list is pretty extensive! But I love my creation because in every aspect, it's mine and my own. So, to me, I could have spent 3 more months and $1000 more to make it, and never would have regretted it.

I guess I'm going more on a tangent now, but you all know what I mean. We collect and build until we get the things we want, and sometimes that involves throwing money at it. :p

Jax - that was more or less my point; cost is relative. The VV Flex would have saved me time and money vs building my 2.0 kit, but then I wouldn't have something that I am as insanely proud to own. The cost of getting instant gratification is also totally acceptable to some, and I completely understand not caring one way or another about how or why, but just want.

At any rate, if someone is making a saber and earning a healthy return for their work, why shouldn't it be acceptable? If the sale doesn't attempt to deceive a buyer, and there's no malicious intent, then good job to the seller.

Which Vender has the most Accurate Saber belt hook for the D-RING?.......

How did you spend $200 on bondo spot putty and sandpaper? Did you mean $20

Because it required a lot of sand paper, and I got enough bondo and spot putty to encompass more of projects so that I wouldn't have to keep going to the store.

This. I bought a lot of new gear for this project, knowing that future projects would use the same things (new soldering iron, wire strippers, etc.) - buying new tools (and good ones that will last) is almost as fun as putting the actual project together. I love having a good gear box.
