Graflex 2.0 Sabers - Show your work / Talk Electronics

Good work, man! That Spark 2 chassis looks sweet! I didn't realize they were different based on the size of the sound board but that makes sense. Are you going to try to do a shine-through mod on the Graflex Shop glass eye? Can't wait for them to restock to give it a shot...
I think I'm going to leave it as-is, unless one of you shows me something that makes me change my mind haha.

Wanted to add some take-aways;
1) I would use the 28mm railmaster that Naigon (Scott) recommends, for NBv3 people, I guess that translates to the 28mm premium from TCSS, although the railmaster is actually a different speaker
2) I'd have skipped the crystal chamber and used the G.O.T.H. padawan chassis instead. It would have saved a lot of headaches and still looked fantastic. The crystal chassis is fun, but ultimately, I'd have been just as happy without it.
3) Anyone following the G.O.T.H. DIY - wire your LED earlier in the build, waiting until the very end meant I had much less clearance to work with, whereas if I had done it earlier, I could have pulled wiring back toward the board before closing up the chassis
4) Clamp button users - dremel/drill/file a channel out toward your hole for the clamp. It will definitely make it easier to feed the wires when you're mounting the chassis to the grenade.

I'll add more if I think of anything else - I'm genuinely happy to be finished with this, but it might be a while before I undertake another haha.

Thanks! That's an awesome introduction to taping.
What set screws did you guys use for the heatsink? I got the copper heatsink from Saberbay. 8-32 Seems the way to go, but not sure on the length.

I've found that the 8-32 x 1/8" work the best. You can use 1/4" but they look a little ridiculous and are unnecessary. I have a few pictures but for some reason they keep loading upside down, sorry.

I've been having trouble with the 8-32 set screws. I feel like where I'm tapping it is not thick enough to hold. I'm tapping it the same place you are. Maybe I just suck at it? Lol. Think 4-40 would work since it had a smaller thread?

It might work, but honestly the 8-32 works great. It is a very short thread and there really isn't a lot of material to grab no matter what size you use. 4-40 only has 8 more threads per inch than the 8-32 and only about 1/8" of material to work with so I'm really not sure it matters.

For those of you using DarthRyo's 3D Printed chassis, are you using 30AWG wire for the entire saber? I just got some 30AWG wire on Ebay and this stuff is so thin that I don't want to use it. Do you use this on your battery too? I have bare 18650 batteries and need to wire them to. thanks guys!!!!!!

I used it for everything, including the battery. I don't think there would have been enough space otherwise, it's a very tight build.

Thanks for the info and pictures. That's definitely a great help!
I'm probably gonna get a cheap aluminum pipe somewhere to practice drilling and taping before my Graflex arrives.

30awg all the way. Anything larger and it will be REALLY tight. The 30awg can handle the amperage without a problem so don't worry about hurting anything.

Finally finished my Alclad Chrome accented chassis. Really wasn't happy with the "furry" results I was seeing from other builds with regular enamel paint and wanted a more metallic "shiny" look. Tried to do some light sanding with 1000 grit but getting in all the cracks and crannies wasn't happening, so instead I just laid a generous 2 coats of Testors gloss black (with torturous 3-day waits between coats). Alclad is meant to be airbrushed onto a glossy black undercoat which also wasn't happening with the intricacies of the chassis accents but I read on some model builders forums that you can dab on the Alclad rather than brush it on and you can get pretty good results... which is what I got. Better than regular paint but still not perfect by any stretch. Still like it though... :) Can't wait for the Graflex 2.0 to get here so I can get this baby built.
