Unlimited Run Deluxe Tron Disc Retrofit Kits

You don't have to use E6000. I just prefer it due to its flexibility and incredible bonding capabilities to virtually any material.

Quick question for you Soul, would it be possible to use a relay so that the switch setup from your kits works similar to the original disc? By that I mean you flip the switch to on and then to activate the disc, you press the button, which activates a relay and keeps the switch engaged? This way, the switch itself could just be on/off and be used for the inner C ring, and then you activate the outer ring by pressing the button, which stays lit until you turn the whole unit off? Just a thought.

I'm not asking you to do this for your kit, just wondering how hard it would be to do this ourselves?

Also, I noticed you said you made a new mold... does this mean you've solved the issue with the bubbles, or are you using this method?
soul, are you casting the rings in a pressurized pot? It helps a lot.

I don't want to be a pain, I'm just curious. I'll be making an order probably today once I decide on 1 kit or 2.

I can answer that question for you: yes. It's certainly possible to wire it up that way. However, you'll notice when you get the toy apart and you lay the kit into it that there's not a ton of room in there for much else. You could modify the kit though by using a push button instead of the second switch, but you'd have to find one to fit the space and figure out how to mount it under the button. That way you could either connect it to the single switch as you described or just use the button to power the outer ring on/off, though the former would prevent any accidental button presses from powering it on.

Thanks for the response Manix. I was actually thinking of using the switches in series, and like I said, using a relay to keep the circuit active. The other switch would still turn the whole thing off... as far as accidentally turning it on, unless it's while grabbing it off your back (which I think would be fine).

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the last part of your post, but yeah, that's why I was thinking the single switch, so that it was more accurate to screen usage, and accidentally turning it on. I'll tear into my disc tomorrow night to start looking around at components.

QuartZ, I understand your frustration and I'm happy to report that the new mold is curing as of this moment! I'll have your replacement shipped out just as soon as I can. Again, my apologies and thank you for being so patient with me.

Great to see you are on the ball with the rings Soul. From the reactions my disc has gotten at various Blacklight and Club parties so far, I can't wait to see how it will look with the new and improved replacement rings.

Sounds good. Basically once you've torn out everything space is the only limiting factor to what you wanna do. I recommend not cutting out the plastic until you've ordered a kit and gotten SI's instructions. If you need help figuring out a simple way to customize the wiring let me know. I'd almost like to do a similar thing to mine, but I'm using the button space to create a locking mechanism to my suit (or at least that's the plan) since I'm paranoid of someone running up and grabbing my disc off my back. :ninja

WOOOT,

I forgot to mention I have recieved both of my kits about a week ago and they look FRAKKIN Awesome. I didnt give it a major inspector gadget look see but with all the work I've seen go into this project Im as happy as a lark to be part of it. If I come across a bubble or two I dont care. I know what its like to work with resins and it can be as tempermental as a woman during her off week. So all I have to say is WOOOOOOT!!!! to our boy SOUL :D :D :D

Yeah, I ordered 2 kits, and I won't do any cutting until I actually have kit in hand (and instructions, won't start even when I have the instructions). I just plan on cracking open the case and peeking around to brainstorm ideas. I'll probably also start poking around radio shack and stuff for appropriate components, but not buy anything until the kits are received. I'll make sure I post an update on how I do the change if I do (will probably post it here and in the "Tron Legacy Costume" thread that's at 148 pages and counting). Thanks for the input.

Btw, I think Neodymium magnets should be strong enough, especially 4 of them on the disc and 4 on whatever you end up making into the holder for the disc. I'd be more concerned about the whole thing coming off my back than someone stealing it with 4 of those suckers holding it on.

New mold is finished! I'll pull the first cast tonight.

Also, here is a video showing how my prototype White KFlynn disc operates with the new v2.1 full kit installed.

Hi Soul! Just letting you know that I FINALLY got around to sending you back my 2 outer rings!

I've been hellishly busy but I can't wait for the replacement rings!!

Edit: Also is the option to purchase just the inner C ring available? I'm thinking of purchasing 2 so I can modify the back of my current discs. :)

(also would I be able to get the new instructions too? I loved how the new installed back c ring looks)

Sigh. Cutting the bottom portion of the disc to fit the new C-ring has ended in failure. I thought I had cut out the outline for the C-ring just right and glued it all down into place just like the instructions, but I must have done something wrong because the whole inner portion of the disc itself (that houses the magnets) is bending outwards like crazy and isn't staying in place for a secure glue down. I tried cutting more space but that just left a mess.

Looks like I'm going with a no-glow bottom on mine after all.

Guys, just posting an FYI on this the Deluxe discs went on clearance at Target for 7.00, I pick up a couple for myself but the had about 12 at my local target in LA. Actually all the Tron Legacy stuff went on clearance.

Got my kit today, it is definately top notch! Can't wait to get it all put together. Oh, I have 2 questions. First, I don't know if it was answered, but is the inner C ring supposed to stretch a little to fit? It seems about a 1/8th inch shy on the one side.

And the second one, that I am sure has been asked a million times(for that I apologize), the imfamous installation directions? I got a good idea from that youtube video of speed installation, I just wasn't sure on what all has to be cleared from the inside. I prepped my disc for the inner C ring, but left a spot or 2 for the inner part of the shell to not go flopping all over.

Ya you need to "Warm" up the ring to stretch it out to fit correctly.
This info is also in the "Instructions" if I remember correctly.
