Interest DaveP's 40th Anniversary Luke Hero (Interest Thread)

**UPDATE**

Hi everyone.

Hope you're all having a great weekend so far.

I just wanted to drop in with what will be a regular weekly update on this thread.

A little later than expected due to an unfortunate painting incident which set me back a little, and prevented me from reaching the stage that I had intended to be at in time for this update.

I rather foolishly decided to try out a new paint this week and after masking both a Hero and Yuma to use as examples of the latest parts, I found that the paint hadn't taken to the metal and was peeling straight off!

As a result, I have decided to stick with my go-to acid etch primer for the grenade section in future.

Because of the above mishap though, I was forced to strip the paint from the Hero (and Yuma) and start again.

It was my plan to have a fully finished 100% vintage hero, with present day weathering, as well as a fully finished Yuma ready for this update.

After the disaster with the new paint, I decided to focus solely on finishing the Hero, leaving the Yuma for now (although, the new stencils are finished and ready to go).

My example Hero is now finished, and I am extremely pleased with the results!

I wanted to put together a present-day Hero with all current paint chips (as seen at the Identities Exhibition) so that the handful of commissions I have for vintage Heroes can see what would be included as part of that, and to help them decide if they would prefer the on-set look (basically the same, but without the paint damage).

I've also included the optional tool marks to the pommel, emitter, and control box.

These details will all be added as part of my weathering commission (rather than including them in the CNC design). This means that they are optional for those who wish to have a dimensionally accurate hilt, but without any surface level imperfections.

Anyway, the wait is very nearly over! I constructed the above example in order to demonstrate the full range of options available as part of the weathering commission.

I just have a handful of vintage commissions to complete over the next week or so, after which I expect I’ll finally be in possession of the replica boards and will be in a position to launch the store! :)

Before then I’ll have a finished Yuma to show off too. After going through the whole process of stencilling and painting, only to find that my new paint was no good, I just couldn’t face it this week!

As soon as I have one finished (using the acid etch paint), I’ll be able to list those on the store too. (y)

Signing off for now, but hope you like the look of the first finished hilt from this latest set of parts.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone!

All the best and MTFBWY!

Dave

Great Job Dave...love the necks and rails. I'm itching to do another Yuma. Superb communication and top notch work. Respect!

Ok, I have a question. Does the Hero Box have room for switches if I install it? I’ve heard the hilt is not a static prop. If it indeed is an installable hilt, would it use the black buttons on the hero hilt?

The parts I have in production right now are for static hilts, but I do have a design drawn up for an empty hilt for use with a crystal chamber design I have in the works. These will be coming shortly after...

**UPDATE**

Hello everyone. Apologies for the radio silence.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

This past couple of weeks I've been busy finishing up a few commissions and have also been without a phone. This has made it harder than usual to keep up with messages as I've been away from the computer for much of that time. It's also meant that I've been unable to take any pictures unfortunately, as I've been without a decent camera.

I've finally received my replacement phone now so normal service can resume!

I'm very nearly done working on the few vintage Hero commissions that I have and almost ready to launch the new store!

I'd say they're about 95% finished and will be adding the finishing touches over the next couple of days.

The store is pretty much made and ready to publish too! I just wanted to get ahead of things before pushing the button, so that I can give it my full attention once it goes live.

Unfortunately I'm still waiting on the phenolic reveal boards for the V1 Hero. I do have all parts for both the Yuma and I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L However (as well as some other items), so I have decided to go ahead and launch the store TOMORROW EVENING (27/11/2023) at midnight (UK time).

The V1 Hero will be visible on the store, but will show as "out of stock" for the time being.

I considered waiting until the the V1 was ready before publishing the site, but figured it would be good to get things up and running with a very limited number of Yuma and I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L to start with, in order to check that everything is working correctly.

I have had a number of enquiries regarding Yumas and I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L, so I figured I could make those available straight away. :)

I can then add V1 Hero stock when the boards have finally arrived! I will of course announce this beforehand and set a date/time. It could literally be a matter of days now.

It's a little disappointing on the one hand as I would have liked them to be available from launch, but it will be good to have an established and fully functional site prior to making them available.

It will get me used to the process of adding stock to an existing site too, which I'll be doing on a regular basis.

Regardless of whether or not the Heroes are available from day one, I WILL be working on getting some finished and ready to install their reveal boards upon their imminent arrival.

This first round of stock will be a small test run for a couple of reasons:

Firstly, I'd like to get used to taking orders via the site and getting an idea of how long it takes to process them from start to finish.

Whilst all parts are in stock, they will need to be checked over, packaged up and have shipping arrangements sorted out/labels printed etc.

Secondly, I would like to have this first small run completed and shipped before Christmas. So I need to be sure that that's achievable with the quantities I add.

I am just one person at the end of the day, and much to my eternal frustration, there is only so much that can be done in a limited amount of time.

So, for this reason, numbers will be limited for now I'm afraid.

Immediately following the new year, I'll be restocking everything, and in greater numbers.

At some stage tomorrow, I'll post an official announcement about the launch.

For now though, here is a list of items that will be available on the store:
  • DIY Yuma Kit
  • Fully Finished Yuma
  • Yuma Ctrl box
  • Yuma Blade
  • Yuma Stencils
  • DIY I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L
  • Fully finished I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L
  • I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L Ctrl box Kit
  • DIY V1 Hero Kit (out of stock / coming soon)
  • Fully Finished V1 Hero (out of stock / coming soon)
  • DIY V1 Hero Ctrl Box Kit (out of stock / coming soon)
  • Fully Finished V1 Hero Ctrl Box (out of stock / coming soon)
  • DIY V1 Reveal Board Kit (out of stock / coming soon)
  • Fully Finished V1 Hero Reveal Board (out of stock / coming soon)
  • DS2 Brass Sections
As I've said, I'll be working on V1 Hero items behind the scenes, and will add these as soon as the final piece arrives. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking orders beforehand, even though I expect them any day now. I'd like to see them and check that they've turned out as expected first.

I'll post a more in-depth announcement post tomorrow evening before the site goes live, with a link to where you'll be able to find everything.

I'll also get a message sent out to all non-RPF members via Email/FB/Instagram before the site goes live. I just wanted to give a little bit of prior warning before making the official announcement tomorrow. (I intended on posting this yesterday!) o_O

Thanks again for your patience everyone! I'm so very excited to finally be able to start working on these for you all!

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend.

All the best and MTFBWY,

Dave

Awesome Dave!
Is there any chance you can post photos of the finished sabers showing the differences between the versions?
Sorry for asking this, I'm sure you are busy, this will be me first and only Hero Luke and I'm not sure which version is the most seen/iconic. I would also like to see the finished versions to make up my mind about taking a kit I will probably never have the time to finish or buying a finished version.

Thank you and good luck with all of this :)
Cheers

I hope Dave doesn’t mind me posting his pictures from previous builds of his. I believe he has updated his Yuma paint stencil for the current run. From left to right: Yuma, ISYHCANL, V1 Hero, V2 main belt hanger and throne room Hero (not part of this release).

Left to right: Yuma with stunt blade, ISYHCANL, V1 Hero

-Yuma is the initial iteration. It is seen on the sale barge as a bladed stunt lightsaber.
-ISYHCANL is the second iteration from a close up pickup shot, and it has the brass rails directly on the aluminum control box (no grey plastruct rails, and no side plate screwed on with arrows).
-V1 Hero/Cave Scene was the final iteration and had electronics added to the control box for the flashing arrow sequence.

Awesome, thank you very much Chris! I was doing research on my end at the same time and figuring things out little by little!
thank you for your help :) I'll go with the Hero then :)

Now to see if I take a kit or a finished one ahah!
cheers

Thanks for posting those, teecrooz ! And sorry I didn't get a chance to reply sooner, eethan .

Pictures of latest versions of Yuma / I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L / Hero coming in tomorrows update (y) Along with a more detailed explanation of each one (y)

Had my hands full today, but will be concentrating on beauty shots of finished commissions tomorrow, including a finished Yuma and I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L :)
