Hello everyone!

Just a quick update before Christmas. There hasn't been a huge amount of progress since the last one I'm afraid, as I was away earlier last week. I did get some work done either side of my trip however, as well as a few things over the weekend.

Both Batch Three and Four have now had their parts picked out and checked over. Work has also begun on drilling/tapping bodies. Foam inserts have been glued together and tagged. These will be used when the time comes to send out, but are also used throughout the process for storage. At the end of each day, everything is packed away for safe keeping.

Stencils have been cut ready to apply, and chemical treatment of parts for batch Three will be one of my first jobs after the holidays. Once the kids are back at school!

STENCILS.jpg

My first job will be to form all clamp parts for Batch Three and Four so that they can be plated whilst I get on with painting and weathering of batch three. This will be one step less for Batch Four when the time comes. (y)

I did send out final invoices for Batch Three, so that side of things is now taken care of. There is no need to pay these until work is complete. The option is there though if you prefer.

I'm looking forward to making some major progress in January and hopefully getting caught up with the original schedule.

I've worked out a strict action plan, that I'll be doing my best to stick to in the new year.

In the meantime, I'll be packing things away over Christmas, but I am very much looking forward to getting more finished commissions out to everyone early 2025.

I'd like to thank you all once again for your tremendous support with this run! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! Thank you also for your patience. It's not something that I take for granted. The delays with some of the parts at the beginning of the run have obviously had a knock on effect with the overall schedule. I haven't received a single complaint though and everyone has been so very understanding! I can't thank you all enough!

You have my word that the end product will be worth the wait, and finished the highest possible standard.

Just a short break for Christmas now, then I'll be back to work. (y) I'm very much looking forward to continuing with these and excited to get them out to you all as soon as possible!

Wishing you all a fantastic holiday season, and all the best for the new year!

MTFBWY!

Hello there!

It's time for another update! The first of 2025!

I hope that this year has gotten off to a good start for you all, and that you all had a great holiday!

My heart goes out to anyone affected by the fires in California! I have a number of friends over there, and I know that there are people on this run who live in the area too. I sincerely hope that everyone is safe, and that the situation is brought under control as soon as possible!

Truly horrendous scenes, and I can't imagine what those affected are going through.

It's obviously a different picture here in the UK at the moment. Despite the Arctic conditions (which did add a couple of days to the school holidays) it's actually been a productive start so far!

I'm happy to say that clamps for Batches 3 and 4 are now formed, and will be sent out tomorrow for plating (after some final cleaning/polishing). Just the tabs to bend in (and remove) later today.

CLAMPS.jpg

Whilst clamps are out for plating next week, I'll be focusing on getting Batch 3 aluminium parts finished, chemically treated and painted (weather permitting!).

Not only have all stencils been cut, but they have been fully weeded and have now had transfer tape applied too, so they are ready to apply as soon as parts are polished up and ready to paint. (Y)

STENCILS.jpg

It's my aim to have Batch 3 finished and sent out over the course of the following week (20th-24th Jan). (y)

As I've mentioned previously, Batch 4 has already been started to a certain extent, with parts having been selected and organized, and many smaller parts such as D-Rings, etc. having been formed in advance. It's my aim to get Batch 4 as close to completion as possible by the end of this month.

I will of course continue to keep you updated on progress, but after a productive first week I'm feeling recharged and optimistic that things are going to progress quickly (without rushing or course!).

This first week has been predominantly focussed on the forming of clamp parts, so aluminium parts for Batch 3 and 4 are still safely stored in their respective boxes (hence the lack of pictures for this update). I’m looking forward to getting these opened up and cracking on with the exciting stuff next week! I’ll be posting another update next weekend with my progress!

Thank you all so much for your support on this run! I’m excited to get this next round of commissions finished up and on their way to you all very soon!

Hope you're all having a great weekend, and here’s to another productive week ahead!

Wishing you all the very best for 2025!

M.T.F.B.W.Y,

Dave

Hello everyone!

Please excuse the lack of update last weekend. It was my intention to post another one as soon as the aluminium parts were finished.

When I did not get to the milestone that I intended, I figured I would push on with the work and then post a slightly delayed update at some stage during the week...

Of course, the work took over yet again and finding a moment to sit down and write just never presented itself unfortunately.

Other administrative tasks needed attending to also, so it’s just been a bit of a crazy couple of weeks.

Please do rest assured that I have been VERY busy working, as well as documenting my progress along the way…

I’ve said it before, so please excuse the repetition, but when I go quite or drop off the radar it’s almost always due to me being busy working on the run.

This first couple of weeks being back after the holidays have been incredibly busy (and productive). A LOT of work has been done. It just always seems to be ever so slightly behind where I would like it be!

The end of the week seems to arrive with me wishing for just one more day (or several) to get to the next stage.

Well, I’m happy to say that work on the Aluminium parts for Batch Three is now complete!

This stage is by far the most labour intensive!

It involves:
  • Expanding the V2 Rod Shafts from 6mm to 8mm
  • Drilling and tapping V2 Boosters
  • Adjusting V3 Body Profiles (Necks/Rings/Booster alterations)
  • Drilling and tapping V3 Necks and Boosters
  • Adding seams to V3 ring sections
  • V2 Pommel Damage
  • V3 Pommel Damage
  • General polishing and clean up of all Aluminium Parts
I’m now at the stage I wanted to be at LAST WEEK, so I am slightly disappointed about that. As you can see though, this stage really has been the more labour intensive part of working on these:

COLAGE.jpg

All very physical and time consuming! Each and every mark/scratch/detail has been meticulously replicated using the available references.

The Next stage in the process, I would call the cosmetic stage:
  • Chemical Darkening
  • Painting
  • Weathering
I now have a strict plan of action for next week (27/01/25 – 31/01/25):
  • Monday – Chemical Darkening/Addition of Flash to V3 Emitters
  • Tue – Stencilling/Masking/Paint V3 Rings (Stencils are ready to apply)
  • Wednesday – Mask and Paint V3 Necks / Paint V2s
  • Thursday – Dry brush V2 Necks (Morning) / De-stencil All
  • Friday – Weathering / Final Assembly

Clamps are still in for chrome plating (this includes clamps for Batch Four). I’m expecting those to arrive back here next week, so it’s my hope that finishing up on the cosmetic side of things will coincide with the arrival of the clamps for final assembly.

All being well, and assuming that I am able to keep to the above plan, Batch Three will be ready to ship out by the end of next week!

I’m looking forward to getting lots of pictures of the completed commissions in time for the next update!

Work has already begun on Batch Four as you know, so I should be able to hit the ground running and jump straight in to working on the Aluminium parts as soon as Batch Three is away!

Thank you all so much for your patience! I began this run saying that I would not be placing strict deadlines on things, and that it would “take as long as it takes”. I do like to have a plan of action to work to though, and I have been known to make (and share) estimates that are “over-optimistic”.

I will try to keep this under control to spare you the disappointment of missed, self-imposed deadlines going forward.

Please rest assured that I am doing my best to get through the work as fast as I can, whilst maintaining the high standards you expect. (y)

We are more than half way through the run at this stage, and I’m excited to get these remaining commissions out to their new homes over the course of the next few weeks.

I’d like to thank those who have recently jumped on to the sixth and final batch! There are now just a handful of V3 spots remaining in this batch, which I expect to wrap up around the end of March. All remaining stock is listed on The Store. When these are gone, the last will they be.

I’ll be announcing my next project in a few week’s time... Obviously this current run takes priority right now, so I haven’t had a chance to generate the artwork for the announcement. It’s one that’s been in development for a long time though (years in fact!). If you’re not already signed up for my mailing list, you can add your email HERE to receive updates and links to new interest threads, etc.

Thanks again for your support everyone! I hope your year has gotten off to a great start!

All the best and as always, MTFBWY!

Dave

Hi everyone.

Please bear with me... Another update IS imminent!

I wasn't able to get one together over the weekend.

A LOT of work was done last week though, and it was all documented.

I'll be dropping an update later today, and catching up on correspondence too for anyone waiting on replies to emails/messages. (y)

**UPDATE**

Hi Everyone.

Here it is. The next update. Apologies for the delay...

As I'm running a bit behind, there's always the urge to get just a little bit more done before posting, but it's time to take a short break to fill you all in with where things stand.

I'll keep it brief, so that I can get back to work!

I did set myself an insane amount of work to do last week:
  • Monday – Chemical Darkening/Addition of Flash to V3 Emitters
  • Tue – Stencilling/Masking/Paint V3 Rings (Stencils are ready to apply)
  • Wednesday – Mask and Paint V3 Necks / Paint V2s
  • Thursday – Dry brush V2 Necks (Morning) / De-stencil All
  • Friday – Weathering / Final Assembly
Well, it was certainly optimistic, and whilst I tried my best to get through it all, there are still a few items ongoing.

I am happy to say that most of the work is complete and I am now in the process of de-stencilling!

It really has been an incredibly busy week! Chemical darkening took longer than expected. Stencilling/masking took longer than expected, and of course painting took longer than expected!

We got there though! And I'm very happy with the results:

I'm now in the process of stripping everything down ready to install the clamps...

** The clamps ARE finished and are currently "in transit". **

I'm expecting them to arrive at some point today hopefully. I will of course post pictures once I have them in hand. Please bear in mind that these are the clamps for Batch Four as well as Batch Three, so we have a head start on Batch Four. I'll be prepping the Aluminium parts for this batch later this week, ready for darkening. More Aluminium Blacking solution has been ordered and is arriving this week.

I'm hoping to have everything stripped down and ready to assemble by the end of today, so will now sign off and get back to it!

I'll be back with another update as soon as I get everything stripped down and assembled (with clamps). At that stage I'll begin booking everything in for collection/delivery. :)

Thank you all so much for bearing with me! Not long now!...

Wishing you all a fantastic and productive week.

All the best, and MTFBWY!

If anyone needs/would like to back out of their V2 Sandstorm or V2 Post Production please reach out. I got both versions of the V3 and would love to add a V2 from this run!

Yeah for sure I missed the boat on the V2s as well, would love to take someone's spot lol.

Still kicking myself for missing out on this run but love seeing the progress!

May I ask what you use for the chemical darkening? Aluminum-black or something else?

I received my V2 post-production and V3 NASA sabers last month after some nail-biting holiday shipping delays. I've been beyond excited to receive these fine additions to my collection! Dave has done a truly outstanding job on these. He mentioned there were still a few V3s left on his store, which I highly recommend picking up if you're even thinking about it. The pics Dave takes shows what a masterpiece these are but having them in hand: they're unbelievable. Had to do a mini shoot with mine, and a final shot with my V1 and Yuma from early in 2024.

A huge thank you to Dave for doing these runs!
