Hello everyone!
Please excuse the lack of update last weekend. It was my intention to post another one as soon as the aluminium parts were finished.
When I did not get to the milestone that I intended, I figured I would push on with the work and then post a slightly delayed update at some stage during the week...
Of course, the work took over yet again and finding a moment to sit down and write just never presented itself unfortunately.
Other administrative tasks needed attending to also, so it’s just been a bit of a crazy couple of weeks.
Please do rest assured that I have been
VERY busy working, as well as documenting my progress along the way…
I’ve said it before, so please excuse the repetition, but when I go quite or drop off the radar it’s almost always due to me being busy working on the run.
This first couple of weeks being back after the holidays have been incredibly busy (and productive). A LOT of work has been done. It just always seems to be ever so slightly behind where I would like it be!
The end of the week seems to arrive with me wishing for just one more day (or several) to get to the next stage.
Well, I’m happy to say that work on the Aluminium parts for Batch Three is now complete!
This stage is by far the most labour intensive!
It involves:
- Expanding the V2 Rod Shafts from 6mm to 8mm
- Drilling and tapping V2 Boosters
- Adjusting V3 Body Profiles (Necks/Rings/Booster alterations)
- Drilling and tapping V3 Necks and Boosters
- Adding seams to V3 ring sections
- V2 Pommel Damage
- V3 Pommel Damage
- General polishing and clean up of all Aluminium Parts
I’m now at the stage I wanted to be at
LAST WEEK, so I am slightly disappointed about that. As you can see though, this stage really has been the more labour intensive part of working on these:
All very physical and time consuming! Each and every mark/scratch/detail has been meticulously replicated using the available references.
The Next stage in the process, I would call the cosmetic stage:
- Chemical Darkening
- Painting
- Weathering
I now have a strict plan of action for next week (27/01/25 – 31/01/25):
- Monday – Chemical Darkening/Addition of Flash to V3 Emitters
- Tue – Stencilling/Masking/Paint V3 Rings (Stencils are ready to apply)
- Wednesday – Mask and Paint V3 Necks / Paint V2s
- Thursday – Dry brush V2 Necks (Morning) / De-stencil All
- Friday – Weathering / Final Assembly
Clamps are still in for chrome plating (this includes clamps for Batch Four). I’m expecting those to arrive back here next week, so it’s my hope that finishing up on the cosmetic side of things will coincide with the arrival of the clamps for final assembly.
All being well, and assuming that I am able to keep to the above plan, Batch Three will be ready to ship out by the end of next week!
I’m looking forward to getting lots of pictures of the completed commissions in time for the next update!
Work has already begun on Batch Four as you know, so I should be able to hit the ground running and jump straight in to working on the Aluminium parts as soon as Batch Three is away!
Thank you all so much for your patience! I began this run saying that I would not be placing strict deadlines on things, and that it would “take as long as it takes”. I do like to have a plan of action to work to though, and I have been known to make (and share) estimates that are “over-optimistic”.
I will try to keep this under control to spare you the disappointment of missed, self-imposed deadlines going forward.
Please rest assured that I am doing my best to get through the work as fast as I can, whilst maintaining the high standards you expect.
We are more than half way through the run at this stage, and I’m excited to get these remaining commissions out to their new homes over the course of the next few weeks.
I’d like to thank those who have recently jumped on to the sixth and final batch! There are now just a handful of V3 spots remaining in this batch, which I expect to wrap up around the end of March. All remaining stock is listed on
The Store. When these are gone, the last will they be.
I’ll be announcing my next project in a few week’s time... Obviously this current run takes priority right now, so I haven’t had a chance to generate the artwork for the announcement. It’s one that’s been in development for a long time though (years in fact!). If you’re not already signed up for my mailing list, you can add your email
HERE to receive updates and links to new interest threads, etc.
Thanks again for your support everyone! I hope your year has gotten off to a great start!
All the best and as always,
MTFBWY!
Dave
