Okay... I post this in hesitation; my skills do not match the amazing stuff that comes out of this group. I almost feel foolish posting something I put together here. I do not consider myself a prop maker by any stretch. I am a weekend tinkerer and hobbyist and enjoy the process of making things. I like to work on things as an outlet to work and the busyness of life.

"I've been looking for this all of my life" - .... or for the better part of a year...

Last year I contacted laellee and commissioned the Archimedes Dial from the Dial of Destiny. The model and design is phenomenal - working with him was a fantastic experience. His work is so good; I thought others might want a dial as well. I do want to acknowledge the amazing dials that are already out there. You can't go wrong with any of those, either. The difference between this dial would be the functional rotating pieces that were incorporated into the design (video link below).

This would not have happened without the exceptional work of laellee - My work was really quite minimal in this. He is the best modeler I have ever worked with.

I want to gauge interest on a potential limited run:

Option #1 - (Kit) Hero Dial and Compass
  • 50 + printed parts (sanded and primed - ready to paint)
  • 30 + threaded inserts, screws, jump rings (everything needed to complete the prop)
The kit option would be fully sanded and primed. I would make sure all printed parts fit correctly and the rotating features work smoothly.

Option #2
- (Finished) Hero Dial and Compass

I tried to capture the paint and weathering of the Hero Dial. You can see in the pictures below, that depending on the light, the paint looks different.

Please reply to this thread to express your interest. If we have enough, I will turn this into a limited run.

**Also - this will fit the current project run for a brass compass from Kukulcan.

Overview:

This is a fully-functional articulating dial that contains over 50 printed pieces. Many of the pieces fit and lock in via threaded inserts and screws. We tried to make this as screen accurate as possible; laellee did an amazing job capturing the details from the hero prop as we also went back and forth to edit and tweak things to make this fully functional.

Generally interested in a weathered/painted version depending on price.

Wonderful work! Nice Finishing and I really appreciate the tool marking too. Also, I just wanted to second the appreciation for laellee's superb work. He just finished helping me knock off a (Foundation TV Series) ship from my expansive bucket list of wanted props.. Really top notch work.

Good catch. This issue is resolved with new prints I am making now and anything I produce.

Long story short... I have two resin printers. A smaller one (Saturn) and a bigger large format resin printer. That case half is the biggest piece to print. It barely fit on my Saturn - but the orientation was not ideal for printing. Since the Saturn is way faster (like 10 times faster) than my large format resin printer, I thought I could get away with printing on that and adding a lot of supports. I literally had like 2.4mm of space from the plate to make that fit. I also had to angle the piece just right to get that to fit - I did not want to slice that model in half.

After doing all of the finish work and piecing everything together, I noticed the slight warping on that end piece (which was supported in the air at angle that wasn't optimal). I had already painted everything up so I installed that for temporary. Since this model attaches and screws together with most pieces, I can easily take that piece off and put on a new piece.

Moving forward, the large case half will be printed on my larger printer with the correct orientation for that print. I have since printed that piece and the case halves - those pieces with the gear wheels fit together great without that warping issue, I am not worried there.

Thank you. That means a lot coming from you. I really enjoyed following the work and dedication you put into your dial model. I see so many people posting about the dials they purchased from you. You did an amazing job on that model.

Thanks, was not really worried, just not sure if I missed something about the original.

I'd like to have another builder's Dial along with my own in our basement bar's Indy display. I'm interested in an option 2 (fully finished) because I'd like it to be your interpretation on it. No rush for my part but count me in.
