1/9th Scale Jaws Orca (NECA Size)

All the deck and cabin mock up has been removed so I can get the battery box in. When it's done, it will look like orcas gas tanks. This is going to take some time as all the electrical work has to be done. Light wiring, speed controller, radio and below deck weathering. On the plus side, the deck and cabin should build up quickly as they're done and ready to be stained and mounted.

weathering the battery box will look something like this. I used a scrap piece of metal to see how it would look.

I found doing all the electronics took the longest time, mainly just working out where to put them.

I couldn't agree more, you recognize the struggle. LoL Location, Location, location, I've heard that somewhere before. I'm also trying to make it look like things were supposed to be where they are compared to the real boat. I'll get to that point, eventually. I'm hoping beyond hope that everything I've done with the decking and cabins builds quickly, so I can move on and get the build moving faster. I guess you understand that, after the question I asked you last week about stain colors.

All weathered and junked up. The ESC (speed controller) is next, but the location where I want it is very close to the prop shaft. If I cut into the keel to make a slot for it, I'm afraid I'll hit the shaft. I need a 1/2" deep slot. I feel like a surgeon ready to operate. LoL.

The main cabin planking is done. I have to plank the hatch covers and set the brass hatch edges. The cabin wall stain piece is red oak, the deck stain piece is honey, which will be the color of the aft deck also.
Planking the aft deck is next. I'm taking a break from trying to figure out how and where the speed controller and radio will be placed or I'll go nuts.

The main deck is done, hatches are done, The first "bits" are on the boat (so excited) THANK YOU to a wonderful friend! I hope to stain the deck today. Did I pick the correct color stain? All ways questioning myself.

I'm pleased with the way the wood and plastic strips took the stain. Nice beat up look without weathering it. I might paint some citadel paint "grime" on the deck to give it a more worn look. Next step? Second verse same as the first, let's do the aft deck.

Starting the rear deck. Orca's two rear hatches are cut, and a utility hatch so I can access the battery compartment and radio control equipment.

The radio control, motor, speed control, smoke unit, and battery compartment wiring is done. There is power to the boat and the radio is working. She's alive. I've started to weather the hull interior. I have to figure out the location for the lighting wiring. Before I do that I'm going to plank the aft deck. There is a reason. In 22 days I'd like to take the utility hatch cover into NYC and have Ian Shaw, Colin Donnell, and Alex Brightman, the cast of "The Shark Is Broken " sign the bottom of the hatch when we see the play.
