While i'm getting the hull planked ( I know you can't wait to see....lol) Here's a side project for the Orca. Neca had an issue with "likeness rights" with their Chief Brody figure. The Orca needs a Brody, so here is my custom build of Chief Brody. A friend of mine designed and printed the head. The body and clothes came from Classic TV Toys in Florida. The eyes are decals from Archer Decals. Honestly, I'm not a painter, don't get me wrong, i've painted before, but i hate painting faces. I kind of surprised myself with these 3 figures. This commercial break brought to you by, "How the hell do I get all this glue off my finger tips"!
Thank you!!! But it's not over lol.
All I can say Nolan, is go slow when you plank your hull. Getting the seams tight isn't easy as you think. The bow is the hardest. If you can, steam the planks (don't wet them). they will bend nicely Don't worry if you see gaps in between planks. get them as tight as you can. Test fit the plank you're working on. Can't wait to see yours!!!!
Well, one side has wood filler and sanded.
Wood for the decks showed up today. But, I'm getting ahead of myself. I have to fill and sand the other side of the hull, clean it up and prep the hull for fiberglass. Ya know what I'm talk'in about chief.
Sanding is finally finished. Old trick when fiberglassing, let the cloth sit a few days on hull. The cloth will relax and form to the contours of the hull.
My head is spinning, trying to figure out where the rear hatches will be, where a part of the rear deck can be removed to access r/c equipment, where the mast mount under the deck will be. Head spinning. I'm waiting on 3/8" planks for the deck, you were absolutely right Nolan, 1/2" was too wide. The white plastic strips you see will be between the deck planks. They're going to help a lot to hide the r/c access hatch. I've cut the bow deck section, putting deck camber into this piece will be fun.
Until next time, front, bow back, stern, you didn't get it right squirt, I throw your ass out the little round window on the side.
Fighting chair is mounted to the deck. Yes it does swivel.
Thank you so much Filmzy. So glad it arrived.
Sorry for the slow progress everyone, once the weather gets nice and I can fiberglass the hull I'll be able to get more done. Everything has an order. Fiberglass, see if she floats, ballast, radio and wiring, then the deck and cabin start.
