Adding my Quint to the ocean of existing costumes and cosplays. Just threw some stuff together for a fun build and will take it more serious as the OCD kicks in, as usual. The research for this build has been hashed out thoroughly in several rpf builds and dedicated Jaws enthusiast sites. I will do my best to include these, as my build gets more serious. For today you get my take on "Quint goes to Career Day at the library":

Except that kid. He does not look like he knows about the danger of sharks. What's your name boy? You say Billy? You like sharks kid? You want to be friends with sharks?

And when you go in for the hug.... THEY GIT YA!!!

Is a shark your friend? NO, sharks want to eat your face off while you are still smiling, waiting for your little sharky huggy love. Grrrrr, and then goes after Susie over there but it's too late for you. You're chum now anyway.

The quick and dirty version is a blue denim long sleeve shirt with dark buttons, green/green gray military jacket with upper and lower pockets, black pants (faded black denim looks great), dirty baseball cap black/brown (very dirty) but not a trucker cap, and extremely dirty and blackened canvas shoes (these likely started life as tan with white bottoms but are now nearly black) with brown or black socks. Facial hair is mutton chops and a very tight trim mustache. After I pass out and rebound in 8 hours, I will post some links to far more serious researchers and put in my two cents as to a complete build.

Oh and this true gem, an extra scene, where, in one fluid monologue, Robert Shaw delivers the greatest true life story of the Indianapolis that was ever melded into a fictional work. Some variations from the true story were built in for movie impact (says critics) but its enough to make you understand the horror and loathing building up in this film.

My Navy friend sent this to me two days back when I mentioned making the costume and is the reason I will continue with a more serious build.

My first round, non accurate, good at ten feet away, hat is 2.99 from Michaels Crafts. I sewed a canvas patch across the cap front to make the custom double pocket of the original movie used hat. Finished with tan paint done very poorly to simulate years of oil and grime. This is why you start with black and lighten rather than trying to darken a light brown hat. Then wrinkle that nasty Quint fold into the bill.

I know that you're trying to loose weight for your POTC costume...but, gain another 20 pounds and your likeness to R. Shaw would be enhanced for sure;):p...I'm leaving now:lol::whistle:

Yes, this build started because I had really hardcore allergies this week and puffed. It is when I noticed the similarity. One day of meds (they are ridiculously strong) and the face was already gone. So besides the costume build, the pics will get to wait for either a weight gain or some tricky prosthetics. Or I could just walk through my yard and sniff a few roses and poof, ready to go.

Spot on. Take Hoopers boat next time…it has sonar ;)

Leave Brody next time..take MacCready.
I love it!! Best crew scenario. My buddy and I do this but then we rename the movie or game after the new scenario unfolds. With proper equipment (unhampered by tampering and emotional instability) and a quick thinking, single minded crew (as you provided above) and our new movie is "Jaws, the dinner cruise. Minimum charter, 4 guests, additional at a nominal fee, maximum 8."

However, having grown up with someone like Quint as my father and slowly becoming my father over time, I believe we can devolve the perfect team, even with the right equipment, into an unstable and near death experience with the least possible effort. We are not ocean going folks, just ADHD/OCD and inclined toward trial by guessing and over confidence. I myself almost drown in a bay in Mexico trying to catch fish by hand and instead being dragged down by a grouper that snuck up behind me.

My dad and the look he always got before things went sketchy:

And the look I get before my own kids start begging me "No, no, no, no."

Even Macready might find it a challenge to stay afloat. Once, my mom re shellaced the steering wheel. Halfway out the channel from bay to ocean the shellac breaks loose. She had not re installed the half moon key. It was only the shellac turning the shaft. While drifting quickly toward the rocks, he yanks the wheel off, digs out a pair of vice grips, turned the boat around and went back to dock. The tower lookout saw the whole thing, so we got an escort on the way back in. We practically begged our way out of a citation.

This rpf thread is my main source for costume info:

I posted this on the other Quint thread listed above but wanted to include this bit of insanity here.

I have over my 51 years seen some blatant miracles. Often, I just expect crazy things to happen and then they do. It doesn't need to be world impacting, just exceptionally low odds and I can appreciate the event. I saw in the thread where it was a certainty that Quint's shoes were Sperry Topsiders, a specialty boat shoe brand that I didn't know existed. This stopped being made in 2015, although, their new name Striper by Sperry would nicely pass for the original.

Having only worked on this costume for a few days, I had gone for quick and available with the intent of picking up some authentic stuff later.

Today, on the way to get some bathroom sink parts, I got the sudden inspiration to stop by thrift to get these shoes. Having never seen nor even heard of Sperry before this week and not even knowing (until tonight) that they discontinued them in 2015 after a company buyout, chances were less than lottery win levels. We do not live in anything nearing a boating community. I walked in, went to men's shoes and grabbed this near new, tan canvas, Sperry Topsider, in my size.

Having the old name and not the new means these are 2015 or older. The men's section had a grand total of 15 pairs of shoes. Surely, this is something that could be easily found, used, online but the chances of just walking in and grabbing them on the first try at a second hand store in the same week I wanted them and at the exact store I knew I should go to after having never seen the brand ever before? Which is likely why I wasn't paying attention and left one of my plumbing pipes at the front counter already paid for at Lowes...... sigh. But really cool anyway.

Now to make them nasty and nearly black with use.

There are archetypes…faces that come back after awhile… like the young man who had Robin Williams down.
I have always promised myself I would attempt the Robin Williams "Toys" character but Robin has a very unique nose. Without having a natural match it would be a sculpt for sure. Often enough, I will see matching faces and realize I had given the role to another actor in my memory. Same face, different actor. They pretty much hid Shaw behind the facial hair. Without it, he is a totally different person.

Are you sure you're not related to Robert Shaw?! You're a dead ringer for him!!

I got some gray hair makeup today and added back in some grey/white. I notice in the comp pictures below that his chops are black and white (pepper and salt), not grey. His mustache seems to be a lighter brown, also not just gray. Please ignore my hairline that is still dark brown as I was only testing the gray hair process on the facial hair.

Of note, his lips form an up bow, mine are down, another pose adjustment to remember.

I need to have more hair coming out the sides and I need the colored contacts but I believe the below comparison photos make me pretty confident that I can just go find a good boat and do some final pics. I do have some coat, shoe and pants upgrades to do but can certainly be quickly accomplished.

Sorry for the barrage of photos but let me know where you see differences so I can continue to adjust:
