When I go back to my hometown I get to play around in my grand uncle's metalshop. This is just one of the rooms.. awesome place.

Here's the gestation phase of my bench. Not quite finished, and a stack of new tools hidden out of site, but you should get the gist.

Bits of the Horizon ED-209 in the middle, and something I built 30 years ago (Jeez....) on the windowsill.

Should be up and running in about 3 weeks. The Bench.JPG

This is my favorite thread on THERPF so far!!! IMAG1021.jpgIMAG1019.jpgHere is my Garage workshop. I have mostly hand tools and my old kit stuff from my Film Set Dressing days. I am getting some hand me down tools from my Dad who has lots of higher end machinery like drill presses, compressors, lathes and so on. But for now this is the most room I have ever had so I am ok with it..I don't like having a monitor out in the garage or computer (although I have my smartphone in my pocket always running my PANDORA music stations) I also plug my phone into larger speakers you see under the workbench. So I guess I am saying I like being un-plugged as I am working out here to get better mental workflow...So I try not to look at texts or even answer the phone out here..

P.S. The shelf of ribbons on the adjustable drawing table in the left of the pics is part of my girlfriends "crafty corner" equipment and supplies in the shop as she calls it so I am trying to include her as well....and her stuff is useful sometimes...

After moving from Texas last year, i had to downsize from a 1 car garage, to a 20"x 40" old vanity desk.

Needless to say i made the most of it and turned it from a whitewash mess into a comic book.

Here are a few pics

I haven't finished applying comics to the desk, i plan on covering the front also.

As you can see, my son likes to make use of it whenever he can :)

Ok, it's humble but this is where the wife and I work.

This doesn't include the second sewing machine and surger that we use in the dining room. That's also were we cut fabric.

Paint table. (Need to add a clear Rubbermaid container to catch stray shots from the airbrush.)

Thanks to everyone for sharing. I am in the process of transitioning from a simple woodworking shop to more of a prop making shop. I found this thread as I am looking for tips on shop organization, layout, etc. If any of you guys know of a good website for that kind of thing then great. TheFamilyHandyman was a great resource when I setup my woodworking shop. There are a lot of different types of tools and supplies that are used in prop making. I am not a very organized person by nature but I strive to be. lol

I think this thread has been huge for me to plan my next space. Take time on each photo and study how each person has laid out their area. I think having a great workbench is key though, after that its really a matter of using the space and refining it as you go.

very much agree, but right away you run into a problem, a high bench or a low bench. with a high one you can stand and work or use a stool, with a short one you are limited to just sitting... that's why i have both HA take that glass half empty crowd!!!!

I have a high bench with a bar stool. Solves that problem too... only problem is I need an adjustable bar stool next. This one is a little too tall. I will be redoing my workshop soon (like over the summer soon) and I will take some before and after pics for everyone.

That is sort of why I created this thread. As you can see from my pics, my workspace is messy and cramped, and even more so since I took those pics.I very much want to rework my space, or even move it elsewhere in the house until I can afford an actual workshop/warehouse space. I desperately WANT to be organized but I am so limited in my space that things pile up. I hope to tear it down and rework things in the near future...

As I built my own workbench, I made it perfect standing height and I have a sit/stand stool. I have a folding table I COULD sit at if I could get to it...

Soon to be adding a mill to my setup... somewhere. This is my 2 car garage with... 2 cars in it. So there's not a lot of space, but I make do.

My workshop is currently a few bits of 2x4 on the floor in my bedroom. I'll continue building it tomorrow

im also a big fan of small moveable work spaces. picture a 12 inch by 24 inch chunk of plywood or such with generic Jenga blocks as feet/legs. i have about 10 of these things lying around, makes it nice to move from bench to bench, or outside for painting or what ever, and they stack up real nice out of the way. working on making my own moveable work space/electric breadboard right now.

If I ever get my small back room emptied out I'll have space and access to my industrial drafting table.

Right now I work at my computer table that is just 2 file cabinets with a 24"x48" sheet of particle board on top.
