If the skin didn't have much grain to begin with, it would be pastewashed and then a grain worked into it by hand.

Any info. available how this (grain worked into it by hand) is done? Is this a kind of embossing, done with a "tool"? Or made by squeezing/wrapping the washed and wet leather :confused

I know how you feel about the question. When I first came across it, it was simply described in manuals as "a grain worked in by hand," and that's it.

From experience, I would best describe it as a rolling action between your palms once the pastewash has dried. You're basically wrinkling the leather. It's not a forceful motion -- just a smooth rolling action across the entire area of the skin.

Hi, everyone.

Due to some very exciting circumstances, I'll be relocating to Long Island, NY next month (August). I am continuing to work on existing orders but there will be some delays until I'm fully settled in. No order should be delayed more than 3 weeks or so (that's a stretch, but just in case...).

Any questions or concerns, just PM me.

Cheers!

Oh WOW... I come back to this after a short while... and gets my mind blown out nearly immediately. AWESOME!!! .)

Good luck on the move.

One of the best replicas I've seen on here. Anybody else think it's a little creepy, especially if you've seen the movie?

Re: The Nine Gates - NEW PHOTOS (page 7)

its amazing but don't think you can contact the devil directly with it :)

Re: The Nine Gates - NEW PHOTOS (page 7)

Was gonna say just get the Devil to fill in for you while you move. :lol

You wont believe how many times I get asked by potential buyers if the book actually works. :lol One of the buyers actually claimed the book helps her meditate...

Yeah. The book definitely brings out some interesting types. I've had folks argue with me that the text is real. I always answer that yes, in the sense that it is actually letters and stuff on paper it is real. But no, it doesn't translate to anything 'real'. And then have them tell me I'm wrong. I thought it was funny at first... now it is just annoying.

Annoying is right, Mike! :lol i've got people insisting on full English translations before they buy a book. I always tell them Google Translate doesn't accept gibberish. :p

Wow, didn't know there were fruitcake prop collector's out there. Well, in fact I'm a fruitcake on spending so much money on props, but that's all. Man, I would have been dead several times, if I tried all my props!
1. Trying to use my Batman grapple gun from a rooftop.
2. Drinking from my Holy Grail and then shooting myself to see if it worked.
3. Spent all my money on bets based on the Grey's Sports Almanac (and get killed by people who want to be payed).
4. Building a suite around my Arc Reactor, and try to fly with it.
5. Drinking poison and try to cure myself with Indiana Jones' antidote vial.
6. Bringing my Blade Runner blaster to a real gun fight.

Re: The Nine Gates - NEW PHOTOS (page 7)

An update:

I am closing shop temporarily until I have moved to my new location. Today I must start packing everything up in the work area -- individually wrapping tools, getting all the paper and leather into tubes, boxing up fragile books with lunatic fastidiousness. I've gone as far as I can while being able to avoid liability concerns for some of the valuable pieces in my possession.

The next week and a half is all packing, then a long drive starting on the 4th. It'll likely be a couple of weeks just for me to set up, organize and settle in, so I'm shooting for Aug. 15th to be up and running.

I am apologetic about the delay that this move is causing on active orders. At the time I began this run of replicas, I did not anticipate that I would be relocating so quickly, but such is life. I'll keep you all posted.

Any concerns in the meantime, shoot me a PM.

Cheers!

All the best for this change :) Hope that you will find a nice new home for the shop and
yourself! Would love to see pics, when you have moved and everything is in place.

Re: The Nine Gates - NEW PHOTOS (page 7)

Well, finally up and running with the internet. I'm almost done unpacking the organizing the shop. I've got probably another couple of days work there, then I'll hit the ground running.

Greetings from New York!

I just wanted to stop by and tell you how beautiful your workmanship was on this book. Very impressed! Keep up the good work!

Re: The Nine Gates - NEW PHOTOS (page 7)

Folks,

The marbled paper I had been using in previous copies is no longer available to me at the same price point. To keep the cost the same, I'm going to be using this paper going forward:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I think it's a great alternative, and somewhat of an improvement over the other paper.

So, those of you who had the black and white swirled paper on the inside covers have yourselves some extremely rare editions. :)

Cheers,
H.
