I finally had the time to do a test with the real spray paints by spraying two side panels of a hypospray and compare it to the 7173 sample.

DupliColor AutoColor 70-0045 is a pretty good match!

Note: This is a color code of the "DupliColor" EU brand by European Aerosols, not the "DupliColor" US brand by Sherwin-Williams Company.

I previously thought 70-0350 would be a better match, but IMHO it is too dark:

It lacks a bit of the reddish tint, but overall I think 70-0045 is a good match for people who have access to this spray paint (in the EU).

Question: Was this color used for phasers as well as tricorders or just the latter? If so, I'm guessing Dustbuster, Boomerang, and Cobra only, right? Anything other than those?

Dustbusters are dove grey with dull aluminum misted over it. The later season cobra heads, the Boomerang, the MKIX, X, and XI tricorders as well as the TNG era and on rifles and many of the padds were 7173/WA8311
