Re: The Nine Gates - COMPLETED
Thanks, everyone!
@Clutch: Mainly I didn’t tool the interior of the pentacle because it would require a hot foil stamping machine, like a Kwik print. I don’t have one, but even if I did, I would have to had the die stamp custom engraved, and that would be just too costly. Embossment by stamping has been around for quite some time – in the Middle Ages monks used some form of machinery to emboss book covers. But, the embossment on the props is clearly a modern production to my eyes and didn’t fit the period. I prefer to do things by hand anyway.
Another reason is that the way bookbinding tools are designed, it would be extraordinarily difficult for me to find something that would fit within that space, tooling it blind (i.e. no gold), then having to tool the lines of the pentacle on top of it… it just wouldn’t work well.
The margins were increased to match some books I’ve handled from that period, plus it gets the text to re-flow in such a way that I could achieve the right amount of pages with my paper stock (starts out at 19x26 and is then folded down to size).
Cheers!
