The Marvel custom/redesign Thread

Here's a quick mock-up of an armoured Wolverine variant, made using the Marvel superhero creator.

If I ever get round to building this I'm thinking along the lines of a modular suit that can become any of the different X-Men simply by adding different pieces (ie. the cowl and gloves for Wolverine and the visor for Cyclops).

Awesome idea with the X-Men armor. I try to maximize my cosplays as much as possible too. In fact the Cap that I am working on currently will be able to interchange pieces to be WW2 or Modern classic.

Cheers Captain Rogers. Maximising the number of cosolayable characters within one suit is always the best way to go in my opinion. I've been trying to brainstorm some ideas for a Guardians of the Galaxy armour but I haven't a clue where to start.

Quoting myself for context...

I want to do a "movie-ized" Guardian, and am even less far onto that journey than I am my Cyclops.

So, as I said, I have no idea where to start with this. It's a bit of a negative-space exercise. I know I don't want to do puff-chainmail glissenet a la Man Of Steel. I don't know that I want to go the direction of cordura, or try to find some other fabric to use as a base layer. I don't know if I want to keep it a bodysuit in appearance or turn it into white-and-red-painted armor or half-armor. About the closest I have to an actual idea is cabretta lambskin for the base layer of the white, coated cordura for the red, and a sprinkling of hard and semi-hard armor bits, sich as the headcap, shoulders, some sort of detailing down the outside of the legs... The description of the suit in the comics was a "steel mesh", and was derived from a hazardous-environment suit Hudson developed for oil exploration. I'd like to at least hint at the waveguides for the force field and energy blasters, and maybe even some sort of representation of the strength-enhancing systems -- some sort of artificial muscles or electromotive cabling...

Thanks! As for your Guardians of the Galaxy armor, that is a tough one. Which characters were you hoping to use with the armor?

Why don't you post a picture of what you are sort of going for look wise and then maybe we can figure something out together?

Well, look wise, all I have to start from is the relatively unchanged for its entire history Guardian costume:

The only other version out there, really is Vindicator from the Ultimate universe:

Which is way too busy looking for my taste. No pirate boots, no stupid-looking injector modules or whatever those were on his arms... I'll probably end up with something like the seamed look. May even include a belt like that, but I like the streamlined look of the original and am going to try to convey that, even if I greeble it (like with rubber "armor" pieces a la the Man Of Steel suit) extensively.

My suggestion would be to take some inspiration from MCU Captain America. Guardian is sort of the Cap to Canada, so maybe a little more military look would give it a nice update. Another thing that might look cool is to go more of the DoFP route and have the skin tight under shirt with armor on top. Just my opinion.

I was thinking of designing an armour for Star-Lord, but like I said in my previous post I'm finding it very difficult to come up with any ideas to use as a starting point. Maybe I should go with something along the lines of one of the Batman Arkham suits?

Funny you should mention that, because I was just thinking of designing a Star-Lord that incorporated armor. I'm basing mine off of his original comic costume with elements of the new movie. The Arkham suits I take a lot of inspiration from in builds I do, because to me they are the perfect balance of practicality and comic design. Star-Lord done in that style would be very cool. I'm looking forward to seeing your build.

draw inspiration from everywhere ( MCU, new comics, old comics, even different characters) I'd suggest using the MCU cap helmet ( take your pick, I prefer winter soldier helmet) make up something for the neck armor, like iron man or the dark knight. I suggest basing it more off the ultimate universe vindicator, it looks grittier. You could use kydex, foam or scrap tooling leather to make armored pieces to sew on, drawing inspiration from the marvel now! Captain America design. Have an armored chest piece, but use a maple leaf instead of the white star. And I'd finish it off with cap's boots from the Avengers movie (not the AoU version).

*takes notes, opens Google tabs, prints reference images* Good notions. I don't like the Ultimate Vindicator, for the most part. Those boots, those gloves... And I'm partially undecided on the chest emblem as I've always liked the off-center way it is on the original Guardian. I'm having ideas, though, and should have something to post soon...

Guardian would look amazing and I haven't seen it done yet! Gatta rep the canuk supers while we can lol
I agree with you on the second picture. Seems a bit busy even with the maple syrup orbs on the arms. Stick to what you like!

I'm with you on the boots for the ultimates Vindicator, and what are those things on his arms? He looks like he's being attacked by unmarked Police car whoopie lights. You've definitely piqued my interest, and I can't wait to see what you come up with.

To everyone following and contributing to this thread, I recently had a death in the family and will not be working on or contributing to builds for some time. I hope you all continue on in my absence. I will not return until I have had some time to work through some emotions and find motivation again.

Take as long as you need. I know I speak for a nonzero number of people here in saying if there's anything I/we can do...

[ETA: And, speaking for me, if you need or want someone to talk to, hit me up. I've had a bit of that in recent years, so I have a vague sense of what you've been hit with, my friend.]
