Iron man mark 4 build (klakus cast)

Ok so luckily u've done this build an eon ago, just in foam, and poorly, and with less know how...but my friend asked me on a trip south if i wanted his iron man kit that hes sat on since like 2016ish? I couldnt pass up the chance and jump at it immediatly. Upon inspection its def a klakus cast and seems to be in relatively good condition. Except for some minor bullet damage... dont ask.

A shoulder bell greeble, a knee joint and an elbow joint greeble didnt survive, everything else seems to be great. The damage could have been worse.

My real problem is going to be strapping this thing together. Ive already got files for the missing pieces and will be doing foam for the chest brace, collars, boot spats. The rest will be printed as i have time.

in addition i will need to chop the cod piece and waist in half and use magnets, straps to hold it in place cause i cant get this over my thighs let alone my hips. But i imagine itll look beautiful when done.

The helmet looks amazing though is missing the rear piece. I will need to print and set up a new one.

Mmmm look at that bullet damage!

Thankfully a quick fix and some paint later and its quickly coming along.

The cod piece is too narrow to put on without mods sadly.

And suggestions from vets who have resin builds is appreciated. This is a beast compared to my old foam build.

So update time.
I sliced the cod and ab section open but sadly they are just too small. Im not overly wide but these are still just at least an inch or so too narrow for me to wear, which leaves me with making another pair overall.
Thankfully foam making has come a long way so this shouldnt be the worst.

I also took the time to get the chest and the back primed. Once i get the brace built I will take the time to figure out the strapping system for it.

Overall the ab and cod issue is a setback but from what ive heard not a terrible one. Having no flex through the whole area pretty rough.

Quick update while trying to scale the brace correctly. One of the things that immediatly made me recognize this peice was an old klakus cast was the chest and back were extrememly wide. In fact they were too wide for me and were making my arms flare out. This would get worse with the bicep armor.

Luckily this is smooth on resin sooo a few mins with the heat gun and i was able to push the sides in some to make it more managable. Ill touch the crookedness some with the collar section as well, but it looks like ill need another pass or two to get them even.

Oof you got lucky that he heat gun worked! There are a lot of mods you can do to the chest and abs for sectioning, but sectioning a torso (outside of front to back) is a PITA.

For your cod, I would maybe section the centers (a pain in the ass, but a painted resin cod would typically look better than foam when it comes to the suit's flow. For your abs, heck yeah just do a foam wrap. You could pep one with the individual plate seams that you can get the fit perfect with, and then mod that with more detail or even section up the resin abs and shape those as overlays. I would rather have ab flexibility anyways.

Added the feet details. Il try and add the spats tomorrow or so as I relearn foam work.

Also the boots and shoes add about 4-5 inches of height due to the fiberglass and padding. Im already 6'3 so with the helmet i will easily clear 6 and a half feet.

Sanding time. The fingers were perfectly cast so im sanding them smooth to help them get ready for paint. There a little under sized for me but they will do atm.

What will NOT do however are the palms as they are too tight to properly fit. Im printing new bigger ones out in abs like resin now.

In addition to this i have the missing back peice of the helmet printing as well.
1000005721.jpg

And lastly im trying to rebuild parts of the damage shoulder bell that took a bullet. It doesnt have to be perfect but i would like some extra support for the greeble that will eventually cover the area.

Gloves are getting printed. Resin does things in half the time. The middle one seems to be the correct fit.
1000005731.jpg

And also fun surgery time. Some of the greebles are actually salvagable. Though it looks like the elbow anchor point will need to be created from scratch.

And here is everything left of the anchor point. Its safe to just say its gone.

Quick update. Spent most of the morning settling out the fingers and palm. None of it is perfect, but its close enough for government work. Since these items will be the most used and abused part of the costume I practically soaked them in clear coat and will be adding weathering as they get all forms of scuffed and damaged over time.

The build is looking great. looking forward to the paint up and full suit up.

I know you said don't ask..... but the bullet damage has been mentioned 3 times and 2 pics are posted of the bullet. I sorta need to know now?

without getting into too much detail mental illness is a thing and I hope that the guy is getting help that he needs. Im more bringing it up cause I have a fairly dark sense of humor and the damage is needing to be addressed to progress further with parts of it. Plus its kinda cool to see that 3 resin greebles, and about 2 layers of fiberglass stopped the bullet.

Apologies for asking. I should have been more perceptive.

Build is looking great though. Looking forward to more updates.

Apologies for asking.
No worries.

I took the end of the evening to build out the hand. The other palm is done printint and i will clean and paint that tomorow.

I also took the night to put some red on the bicep and do some fitting of the forarms

Not much progress today but i got the forarms welded together woth jbweld. Not terribly sure how to do the elbows. Im thinking of printing some thick strips of plastic and welding them to the peices to lock it in place. That at least is the quickest and most headache free way to do it in my head.

Got more work done on the forarms. Ground down the elbow ears and glue in new ones to better align the elbows.

Some of the damage and chips Ive decided to not repair. Ill paint them as built in wear and tear as i think it makes a interesting story.
Ive got similar ears printing for the back head piece Ive printed to attach with magnets.

Another quick update as glue dries.
I attached magnets to the helmet and glued in the teeth. I have a fairly small head but this is small enough Im worried about putting i the crash works kit and still havint space. Ive already printed some parts while i wait for the servos to come in. Ill see if i cant pad and make it all work somehow.

Getting the brace glued in and the strapping started for tbe chest. Ill probably change and play around with it a bit but itll do for now. Also heat warped the sides a bit more to stop me from starfishing like the kid from a christmas story

Straps for the shoulder bells and chest are set now. I love the way this thing looks in the grey. Reminds me of the hot toys secret project line in two tone grey.
1000005768.jpg

Fitment is not terrible and just needs some padding here and there to make it comfortable.

The palms have light and they seem to work a treat. Tonight ill try and get the neck built at least and see how it works with the suit.
