Just finished it last night. I'm really bummed that it's over. It was a pretty fantastic show, tbh.

It was a bold choice to make the main protagonist the comic relief. And I loved that he was a good person, and a good pilot, but that's it. He was terrible in a fight and even worse with a blaster. No Mary Sue here!

The show reminded me of both Stargate Atlantis and Battlestar galacitica. I really liked that. The colossus became it's own character.

And one other thing....The ships were awesome. I would kill for models of the aces birds

I might have mentioned this before but I enjoyed Resistance so much more than Rebels. Couldnt wait for Rebels to be over for some reason. it just dragged. Resistance had a nice pace throughout its run. Shame it only ran for 2 seasons.

I absolutely agree.

I loved rebels for the large plot points in regard to the star wars canon, but the writing and art direction was pretty bad. There was a lot of filler between those moments of brilliance

But resistance had much tighter writing. And even though it had a lot of humour, the jokes landed. The humour in rebels was just awkward. Chopper was just mean spirited.

I just started watching this today and worked through the first three episodes. It does get better, yes?

Yes.

Are you watching in chronological order or order of creation/broadcast?

Ummm...I didn't know there was a difference? I am watching in broadcast order (or however they are ordered on the Disney+ app). Are there flash-forwards/flash-backs where a different viewing order makes sense?

My son and I have been rewatching and we are doing the list in order...

No.

The artwork and designs are pretty good, but the writing is poor. They wanted a kids show, and it shows. You end up feeling like you don't care if the good guys lose. The whole thing feels like a wasted opportunity. They could have made up for it by making interesting characters out of Kaz's friends and associates but they didn't bother.

He's Jar-Jar Binks but human. But even the Clone Wars made Jar-Jar work. In this show Kaz was only occasionally entertaining by accident.

The station was very cool, as were many of the vehicles.

Clone Wars was supposed to be more for kids but ended up being a good all around family entertainment show. Rebels was designed to be catered to a younger audience but it still had its good parts. Resistance seems to be made and written for really young kids. But that was probably what made it suffer.

I thought this thread was about "Resistance"?

sorry, got the threads mixed up. I know we we talking about clone wars the other day, so when I saw the notification that you made a post in a thread I was following, I thought it was that one.

The answer about if the show gets better... only slightly. The second season is slightly better.

I didn’t dislike the show, I just didn’t feel it was as impactful as Clone Wars and Rebels. I just didn’t feel it added anything to the story of the Resistance or the First Order.

Thanks. I didn’t want to judge the show just based on the first three eps, but.....yeeesh.

The ships and flying sequences are nice, but to call Kaz “shrill” would be an insult to shrill people. And if you take away all of the SW trappings, this really does feel like some generic kids show that was **** out on the cheap to sell toys.

I feel that compared to the other animated shows, this one felt shallow in the sense that the story and impact did not feel deep or even thought out very well.

The whole racing thing just seemed tacked on. Why come to a station to watch the same 5 or 6 racers race the same course? It would have been more interesting if they traveled a circuit to other places meeting other racers and Kaz could have found all these other places where and how the First order was creeping it's way into the Republic.

And the whole station story arc just feels flimsy.

I get the feeling that this show was something that Disney wanted, not LFL.

"Rebels" started out shaky, but got much better really quickly. I was hoping "Resistance" would be the same way, but I guess I need to temper my expectations.

I like it for what it is. Some of the things that could have been explained/shown better earlier are that the Aces race in their down time to keep their flying skills sharp for when raiders attack -- it's not racing just for racing's sake; and I'm in the midst of a binge re-watch and am only a little into season 2 at this point, so if I missed it first time, oops -- but I wished Our Heroes™ had found out at some point that the First Order had hired the pirates to harass the Colossus (it gets close in one episode, but is never followed up that I remember).

The characters are rather simplistic, but they do develop -- just maybe not as much as we might have liked. There's definitely a clash between the feel of the "filler" episodes and the "arc" episodes. There's some frustrating (in a real-world, no-easy-answer sense) stuff about why people supported the Empire, then, and the First Order, now. And I do like seeing how people react to the events of TFA and TLJ. And I can't help but like that the main character is a good pilot and has a good heart... but not much else. Kaz has a hard learning curve over the series and I feel the show's biggest failing is when they have him revert, for a scene, for an episode... He should never have been the same after the season one finale, so any time he acts like early-first-season Kaz after that it feels off.

Overall, "I've seen worse".
