Star Wars: Battlefront

Or It might mean they are holding back judgement till something is actually released.

and that is just being naive. Look at their track record, it speaks for itself. "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it"

Considering their behind battlefield id say their track record shows they can deliver fun games. And im always up for a battlefield style star wars game.

I thought they said no space battle ? Now I'll have to keep some cash aside again ! Who am I kidding, I would have bought it anyway. BF4 and Hard Line might be less good than the previous ones but they're good games none the less, I expect this to be at least good if not great. Just hope they'll iron out the bugs at launch, had quite the rubber banding when BF4 launched. It was pretty annoying.

Maybe they give a damn about this game vs. Others that might not have done well?

Looking at some of the behind the scenes going to visit the Lucasfilm archives, they looked pretty happy to be there.

It could be quite a different than previous stuff they've come out with. I'm not going into this forgetting their past.... I am not a big gamer of the last 10 years to know what Dice hasn't done well for me, so I'm going into it as a new thing for my relationship with a dice game.

If it doesn't work out then I just sell it used soon after and call it a good try and move on.

Edison failed at the light bulb more times than Dice did at games, but everyone seems to be loving electricity now and forgotten about his failures.

Oh yes, because angry joe who doesn't know what's he's talking about half the time says it's bad, then it is universally acclaimed as the worst game ever :rolleyes
It's far from a master piece, but it's an enjoyable FPS multiplayer that got 6-7/10 on most websites. That's not a bad game. Come to think about it I don't even know why I bothered replying to you, since your mind is obviously made up about both BF and this new Battlefront, but now that I've typed this I'll just click reply anyway.

Yes, skipped Hardline, skipped almost all of Assassin's creed, didn't purchase alot of games on opening day, and I consider myself a gamer. I don't fall for the hype, but I'll buy a Tenchu assassin's game because of the nostalgia value. I might purchase this for pure nostalgia as well, once it gets marked down. There is a reason why these games stay marked up even after a year or more pf release. I'll definitely wait for a review but critics don't know it all, some Tenchu games have terrible reviews and i enjoy them (at cost of course).
So a score of seven might make it an 8-9 for me plus the fun factor

Just because I don't cheer at everything released and praise it like it's the best thing since the invention of the wheel does not mean I have made up my mind. Like Jurassic World, they did a lot of stupid stuff with that. Even after seeing all the trailers and such I still hadn't seen anything to make me excited. I saw the film and I liked it.

Oddly, I'd say it's their track record with Battlefield that most gives me pause with respect to this game.

DICE has a known, long, proven record of CRAPTASTIC tech support for their games. Bugs will go unfixed for months on end, despite the fact that they really damage online gameplay. Need I remind folks of the USAS+12g frags+IRNV in Battlefield 3? Or how about when they made the M26 shotgun attachment capable of firing seven projectiles, all of which did full assault rifle damage, meaning that, essentially, you had a one-hit-kill weapon -- and then left that in for 2 months before fixing it? Their online games have had balance issues for years, they've basically killed any chance at a mod scene, and they let bugs sit around for months on end, and in some cases, simply never fix them at all (e.g. the "red tag" bug in BF2).

I mean, if you dig their games, awesome. Go spend your money. But there's ample proof in DICE's track record that the overall game experience with their games is anything but perfection.

To be honest, I don't pay a ton of attention to reviews anymore, either. They're too often based on a limited amount of playtime. I think -- especially with online games -- that you can only fairly review the thing several months after the game is released, which is why I basically never buy anything new anymore. The last new game I bought or pre-ordered was.....Arkham Knight for PC. Which was returned and refunded, and won't be purchased again for quite some time.

Agreed. For all my caution, this game may turn out great. For MY VALUE it probably won't be worth more than about $20-30, but that's about where I peg most games these days. The value for my gaming time just isn't worth what most game companies have as their initial price. $60-70 for a game? Ha. That's cute. Not the way the industry works nowadays, at least.

I concur. When they first introduced squads to console Battlefields they had this issue where you as a 4 player squad joining a server would end up on different teams. Never got fixed. New Battlefield games kept rolling out but this issue remains :facepalm After EA bought DICE it only got worse.

New starwars game = YAY
New EA starwars game = NAY

In Sweden new games usually cost between $70 and $81. I too tend to wait for prices to drop.

I'm getting this regardless cause it's SW And looks good.

I can't say I have great judgement, though. The last time I prepaid a game was Duke Nukem Forever.

I can sympathize. I went through a period where I bought games based on trailers and without playing them, or based on initial hype. I just got burned too many times and ended up feeling frustrated at my purchase down the road, feeling like I didn't really get my money's worth.

What changed things for me was when I first got an X360 in 2006. My PC was woefully underpowered, so I wasn't buying new PC games, and I found myself so behind the times in terms of all these games on the 360 that I hadn't played. That started me buying used games, and games that had been out for anywhere from one year to five years already. When I got a new PC that was more up to speed, I had the same situation: tons of games to play, and all at dirt cheap prices because they were so old.

So, I got used to paying not more than $30 for a game. Once in a blue moon I'd pay $60 for something, but it was REALLY rare, and usually based on the company's reputation (e.g. Bioware pre-Mass Effect 3). So, now I pretty much only buy older games, games on sale, games at $30 and below. I wait for Steam sales and I buy my console games used (although I haven't bought a console game in god knows how long). I have a huge backlog of games in my Steam library that I at least have to TRY before I go spending full price on a new game, and most of the time, new games on release have bugs, need patches, etc., etc., etc. So now I'm in the habit of waiting at least 6 months to a year before I buy a game.

If you really wanna buy the game, hey, it's your nickel, man. All I'm saying is there's another way to do it, and it's a lot less expensive. Plus, when I end up buying a stinker (e.g Need For Speed: Most Wanted from 2010), I really don't care that much...because I only spent about $5 on it.

You can thank EA for that one ;)

and that is why we can't have nice things. :( okay sometimes we get some really nice ones :p
But there is always someone somewhere that will buy anything as long as it has a certain brand, be it star wars, call of duty or whatever.

I enjoyed SWBF so much this was a rare exception.
Duke Nukem Forever was another case and a complete embarrassment. I couldn't imagine it could misfire so badly.
I paid full for Guild Wars because, as a MMORPG, it's good to get on the ground floor and advance far before the game gets choked with competition.

So did SW Force Commander. I played it for about 20 mins, then threw the disc away. :lol ;)

Oh, God! With the techno remixes of the original themes?! Blech! I think I tried the tutorial once or twice and then said "This SUCKS" and got rid of it.

To date, nobody has made a good ground game RTS in the Star Wars universe (although, personally, I'd prefer a turn based ground game).

Not a ground game but I had a copy of this when I was a teenager. Loved my SPI board games!

I think Empire at War came close, but it wasn't quite there. I'd like to see the space combat more like Homeworld where it's really 3D.

I would love to see a modern version of Rebellion made...

I agree. I really liked that game. I think they should mix some of the things from that game with an Empire at War type game.
