Star Wars: Starfighter

Ryan Gosling in a Star Wars film...??...I got a bad feeling about this....:lol:

I think Star Wars movies tend to thrive on B grade or unknown actors. I like Gosling in a lot of his films, but he's a too big a star not over shadow a Star Wars film.

I could be wrong and if anyone can pull it off, it could be him.

I’ll take Gosling over supremely dumb looking self-insert cameos like a particular creator as a character with a cowboy hat in Star Wars

Okay, I have a new insider update:

The Ryan Gosling Starfighter movie is not yet greenlit. The hold-up is funds. Lucasfilm is not flush with cash at the moment, and has sunk most everything into The Mandalorian and Grogu. Hence the Celebration 2025 news about smaller cheaper productions that are animated. But Favreau is still trying to make it happen, because he's got respect for the potential of the film.

This explains why some other actors who were approached (like Mikey Madison) passed on it. It doesn't have a budget or filming schedule...yet. Tells me that Gosling really wants this.

Yes, this movie is resurrected from the Rogue Squadron idea that was originally being planned with Patty Jenkins before she ran afoul of Kennedy. I understand that Favreau loved the idea and thinks Levy could pull it off. Jenkins is busy.

Well, if it's on a "budget crunch" I would suggest, to Ryan, to work for scale:p:p

Ryan Gosling & big stars in SW:

Lucas traditionally used big actors for elder characters who were respected in-universe. Alec Guinness. Peter Cushing. Liam Neeson. Sam Jackson.

He hired smaller names for the younger stars that were the main protagonists. Harrison Ford & Ewan MacGregor & Natalie Portman only became big after SW. They might have been on the rise at the time but nothing more. (In Ford's case he was mid-30s and still stalled after a decade of trying to break in. He absolutely owes his career to George Lucas.)

Ryan Gosling is mid-40s and A-list right now. He's arguably too big for the SW pattern. It's more like hiring Burt Reynolds for Han Solo in 1977.

But whatever. If this new movie sucks, it won't be because Gosling was too big of a star. And Burt Reynolds might have played Han Solo back in the day if he hadn't turned it down.
