Limited Run Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLOSED)

Re: Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLO

Odd. I didn't have this issue with the pommel. It's level with the booster and there weren't any alignment issues. Maybe I'm missing something here?

I think I figured it out. The space where the set screw can go is very large compared to the set screw, and the flanges above and below are not tight inside the handle. This means you have a lot of wiggle room and the single set screw can easily tighten and leave the pommel crooked. I had to roll it around and rest it on my knee to try and level it.

It feels tight when slid all the way in - but as you can see - it does not line up with anything solid for the set screw to grip to. I found a bunch of half circle marks all over the lower flange of mine from tightening the pommel.

Updated pic with a vintage clamp and vintage d-ring. This clamp fits a lot better around the booster and holds the clamp card nice and tight.

I don’t have a clamp at the moment, but is there any configuration where you can see the slot and screw under the clamp through the long slot or square holes?

I just found a 2-cell and grabbed it. I needed the clamp for this and the red button for a vintage graflex build. It was a win-win. I pulled the square nut off the clamp bar as well as using the square washer from the vintage clamp as well. The only thing not vintage is the lever from Wanna Wanga and the card from Slothfurnace. The D-ring is off a vintage graflex camera bag. It's the perfect size to what Dan supplied.

You know if I wasn’t so tight on funds I really thought of doing the same exact thing!!

Is it me or do you rarely see vintage clamps anymore?!

Glad to see roys lever works with the vintage clamp box nut too! That’s really cool

Now your really going to get me hunting! Lol

Beautiful collection of parts

I'm still debating whether I'm going to put electronics into it or not. I can't wait to see what Goth comes up with. That will probably determine if I'm definitely going with fx or keeping it static. Keep your eye out for 2-cells, you never know. Use the clamp and sell off the rest.

This is going to be a static for me, the Gen1 v2 starkiller did will be retrofitted with a power drill motor and try to get the emitter spinning!! ;)

Yup the 2 cell hunt continues

Halliwax, there’s a guy on fb who sells clamps. He had one roughed up vintage with no lever or bars for $45 and then he has perfect shape ones for $160.

it can be tightened very well with the pommel slid all the way in, however the set screw will still be half on the lower ridge and half off. you have to drop the pommel out a tad and when you do that its hard to tighten it without being tilted. At least mine is, but I'm assuming they're all the same parts?

Re: Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLO

is anybody else having trouble with the threading on the neck part? I'm having trouble getting the steel section to screw in to the aluminum of the neck... I don't wanna force it and strip anything. Unless this is normal and you just have to force it through the first time because there's a little crap/metal left over from the machining process or whatever? This is the first run I've ever been a part of, so sorry if this is a noob question. Any help is much appreciated!

Don't force it at first. Take a toothbrush or a small wire brush and brush out the threads real good to clear out any small bits of metal left over from the machining process. Then try it again. Add some WD40 if you have to. You should be good. Mine was like this too.

Re: Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLO

Got mine and am quite impressed with its engineering. I'm not an fx guy so mine will be static, but I'm happy with the updated accuracy of its outward appearance as compared to my second run 3-piece. I'm pleased that when it's finished there won't be any tells that this is an fx ready hilt. (I'm thrilled that the L slot will be hidden beneath the clamp band when I orient the parts to match the Throne Room scenes.)

One thing I may do is add a real rod inside like Tom did. Not because I want to "accurize" the inside somehow, but just because I think the cut off rod end on my 3-piece V2 looks more accurate than the neat little domed nipple that comes with this new V2. Was there a reason this was made domed that I missed? If this is now known to be more accurate I'll keep it, but I thought the real one looked sharper to me.

I've also got the "clamp open too wide" issue that I'll have to do some finagling with. (Vintage clamp.) By my calipers this new V2 is .6mm wider in the clamp area than my 3-piece. That's three full turns of the clamp lever. This results in a 2.2mm gap beside my Slothfurnace card. I'm sure I'll get it to work, but it's a shame cause this clamp fit perfectly on my 3-piece V2. And there's no other clamp I'd use as this one has a couple of rust spots that match the real prop's clamp spectacularly. :D

Thanks again to Dan, and Roy, and everyone else who contributed to making this replica come to fruition. "Impressive" doesn't seem to cut it. It's amazing what can be produced with tenacious research, collaboration, attention to detail, and the dedication that is present here. And all in a community of fans and hobbyists who respect and appreciate the process and hard work that goes into these pieces, and are happy to wait for something exceptional, rather than something "now".

This will truly be a stand out piece in my collection. So thanks.

Quick comparison to a buddies MR V2. It’s actually closer in length than it appears here for whatever reason.

It was actually!

Haha, I was in my local one a couple of days ago and saw what assume to be the exact same case and thought 'that looks about the right size for a lightsaber...' Maybe I'll go get it.

If it is the same one it'll just fit this saber's length (it's that pull and pluck foam stuff) so go get it lol!

Re: Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLO

Is there a show off thread yet?

I started working on mine. I sanded the bung flat and added hex screws instead of the flathead retention screws. I had to steal the screws from my 2nd generation V2.

Yeah I was wondering if the slot screws were chosen for a reason, is there a shot where its clear that's what was used?
