I am doing a prototype run tomorrow. I will post the image once I have snapped some photos.
The first maps will not have the moving circles YET! I have some ideas and work to look into for the mechanism without making it bulky. I want it to be still rather thin.
If anyone is still interested, please say PM me. I am only doing one run and than finishing the Charlotte Bell/ NT for a run.

Sorry for the delay in showing progress. The map I am constructing is 3ftx4ft. I am using bamboo slats with a canvas border to help make it stay together. The actual Map will a 'flat' based image that will be pasted to one side of the slats. The back will be airbrushed black, followed by being aged to grasp more of the look in the film.
The picture is the bamboo slats together without the map image on it yet.

I have finally been able to figure out the bamboo printing and now I have images to show you. The picture show the map printed on actual bamboo tablets and I rolled one side so you see the effect it has much like the one in the film.
This was a practice run. The one I am making will be printed on Dark brown bamboo flats with one side allowing for asian markings, scrapes and such as shown in the photo. On the map side there will be a cream colored 1in canvas border that will just be on the map side.
There will also be a 4 inch flap on the edge to wrap around with dark brown leather lace to tie it and have it displayed rolled OR with the map shown.

Is it turnable at the end? I mean, theoreticly I would work if you make every "wheel" on bamboo, but you can roll the map in one "map-position...
