Nike MAG replicas (V2 and V3 only)

hi
more to do with the LED circuit.

The LED circuit for 3v i'm using is 6 lanes (ouch!) of positive and negative compared with just 3 lanes for the 9v circuit!
I'm using copper tape, and there is so little space between each lane.

im getting about 4 hours usually.

airair, yours look great, why change to a 9v? Yours seem bright enough.

How many hours do you get out of the aaa's?

Got it. That was my only critique of your shoes, was the LED's seem all "orange" and not very distinguishable (red, yellow, green). It could just be the camera as well but it seems that the LED set up is the hardest to get correct.

My Modded MAGs LED's are MUCH brighter than the real MAG's. I really think that the real MAGs are running off a custom 5v battery source.

I made a video yesterday for a client that is SO similar to yours. LOL

ModsBro, yeah that is the CP 3D printed part.
Jedifyfe, I was hoping for a solution other than in the sole of the shoe.

Hey guys,

I went to DragonCon last week and had a MAJOR ISSUE with one of our beloved BlueBaby 9v batteries. This was only my 3rd time wearing my modded V2s, and of course for the biggest audience. I was out in my costume for only 15 minutes, and my wife noticed the lights in my left shoe were off. When I lifted the foot, the lights came back on, but if I stepped back down they immediately went off again. This pissed me off big time since I went to craaazy lengths when doing my modding/wiring a few months ago to make sure that nothing would pull or disconnect when wearing the shoes.

After fiddling a bit in the corner of the hotel lobby, I took them back to the room. After more prodding, it became evident that it wasn't my wiring at all, it was the 9v battery itself that was the problem. Any pressure on the case breaks a connection inside.

When you put a multimeter to the terminals, it shows 8.X volts, just like it should. When you squeeze the battery just a little bit, the voltage drops right down to nothing. Doesn't take much pressure.

Check it out: (this is how the battery was oriented in the shoe)

Just recently Jedifyfe posted a pic of the inside of one of these batteries, and it makes me wonder if one of the small ribbon-cables inside let go from its connection, but still works as long as no pressure is applied (see pic below). Another thought.... I wonder if one side of the battery is more susceptible to the problem than the other, as I had them installed in mirror image positions between the two shoes. If you press on the other side of the same malfunctioning battery, it keeps voltage no problem. And so far, the right shoe is still working fine.

NOTE: this is Jedifyfe's picture of what I assume is a perfectly functioning battery, and NOT a picture of my battery in question.

You are exactly right. Sometimes those little silver tabs come disconnected. I have had this with a couple batteries. The only solution is better padding between the battery and the foot OR Dremeling out the battery hole in the midsole a little deeper.

Alright, good (and bad) to know this isn't an isolated incident. I haven't yet tried to open the battery, but do you think that connection could be re-glued?

Hmmmmm.... that stinks.

Something else worth mentioning, is that I bought a Duracell Coppertop "Duralock" plain old alkaline 9v at the hotel gift shop to run the left shoe, and it seemed to last just as long as the fully charged 750mah BlueBaby in the right shoe. I didn't wear them long enough for the lights to go out, but after 3 hours the LEDs looked the same level of brightness in both shoes. Very interesting, considering I thought off-the-shelf alkalines were only good for 2-3 hours and the BlueBabys are good for 4.

That's a bit of a bummer if the connections are slightly weak on the 9v.
I'm still going to get some, but thanks for pointing out that there may be an issue with that particular battery.

On my 3v setup, i'm using 2 x AAA batteries which are housed in a thin battery holder so i haven't had any issues with them so far. The battery holder though does have slightly thinner wires so that is something i have to hot glue as well.

the only issues i've had has been the EL inverter wire connections.
I've figured that soldering the EL points to the other wires and have them pointing in the same direction, then hot glueing them resolves that particular issue.

These EL inverter wires are just way too thin, I don't know why they make them so thin, doesn't make sense.

Do you think there are some more 9v rechargeable batteries like those ones above? Surely there has to be more manufacturers of some of these types.

I have to imagine that there is a reason why the wires are thin. It may be just that the supplier of the red/black power wires makes them this thin. Not sure. I took your advice and hot glued the thin wires. It should be much more sturdy, though I have yet to have any real issues with mine. I tuck my inverter in very carefully and make sure the wires are secure.

I will continue to stick with the 750mah batteries as they are the best so far.

Tried to order these from Aliexpress twice already, both times having the payment verification error. Trying one more time, otherwise I'll have to try to get lucky on eBay or just not get the shoes. Both previous times the transaction was against my credit card, it was just a string of numbers and the amount, but this time it says ALIEXPRESS DOVER US, so hopefully that's a better sign.

My first order with Aliexpress went perfectly. Then tried another 2 orders and they both got declined. Used a different card and it worked perfectly.

is the charge still pending on your cc? I ordered a week ago and also got the payment verification error and the charge is still pending.

My payment kept getting declined, had to send them a pic of my credit card and drivers license before it would go through.

I think it finally went through on AliExpress! Used a different card after 3 fails of my other credit card, now I'm at the "awaiting shipment" status with my order from Karin Chen. Very excited.

Hi guys, new member here.

I was hoping anyone could tell me about the black nike mag version. I am a massive BTTF fan, I do own one of the original Nike Mags one of the 1,510 sold.
I saw one of the replicas on ebay but in black and it caught my eye, very cool. Since I do not want to wear my Nike Mags out only INDOORS as it is very special to me. I'd love to wear a modified one like the black one as it is not an original just a replica and I wouldn't mind wearing it out. I'm not much of a tech or computer guy, so I don't know how to fix any of the problems (technical) that some people have had.

I would like to know where it is best to buy them and the best prices for them. Any help for a fellow BTTF fan would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Aliexpress.com has the black ones. Not sure about which sellers are more reputable than others though.
