Help Us Decide On A New Star Trek Prop Replica

As part of our plan for the 60th anniversary of Star Trek in 2026, we are thinking about replicating the first Starfleet weapon ever seen, the laser pistol used in the unaired first pilot, “The Cage”. The “Cage Laser,” as it is commonly referred to by fans, was seen again, in modified form, in the second pilot, “Where No Man Has Gone Before” and in the first season TOS episodes “The Man Trap” and “What Are Little Girls Made Of”.
Our fully licensed limited-edition replica would feature high-quality metal and resin construction, an extendible barrel and screen accurate controls and light and sound effects and, as with all of our high-end replicas, would come with a display, numbered metal plaque and COA/prop story booklet. We anticipate producing no more than 500-1000 pieces.

We have completed an exhaustive study of the original props and have produced the CAD files needed to begin production. However, because of the surprising complexity of this piece, the cost of producing it is quite high and we need to know whether there is truly enough interest in it among Star Trek fans to move forward. Therefore, we’d appreciate you answering a few questions below to help guide our decision. Your answers do not constitute any commitment on your part to make a purchase and they will be kept strictly confidential.

So, would you potentially be interested in purchasing a replica of the Cage Laser? And, if so, which version would you like to see? We currently estimate that the price range for either will be between $799.99 and $899.99.

Because of the long lead time for producing prop replicas, we would appreciate your input as soon as possible.

I chose V1, looks like something I might be interested in but I already have a pretty nice one now. Just like the Galactica Blaster, the one I have is better and it didn't cost $500!

"We have completed an exhaustive study of the original props and have produced the CAD files needed to begin production."

Does a quick Google image search and going with the first result constitute an exhaustive study? I suppose for FE it does, given their track record.
Brass tube, clear acrylic rods, a few knurled aluminium parts and a resin grip.
Why are they charging $800-900?

Licensing, Light, Sound and maybe rotating parts and increased tariffs would be my speculation ? If somebody has the definitive files and prop in hand maybe they can let them know it’s a copy?

Well, anyone with an SDStudios Hand Laser already has a definitive copy of the Jein Laser—the only known, fully intact, surging Hand Laser…

The Jein:

The other surviving “remnant” Hand Laser:

FE should simply reach out to Steve for one of his lasers.

Due to the quality of their prior replicas, from an accuracy perspective, I am only interested in their Hand Laser out of curiosity, to be honest.

I mean, did Galoob or Playmates have a hand in designing this replica?

Man that remnant is rough!!

The story goes that a Paramount executive brought it and a Klingon Disruptor home, after the series was cancelled, and gave them to his kids to play with….that remnant is all that’s left of the pistol…. :(

One thing that is interesting is, notice that there isn’t a magnet embedded into the port side of the pistol; a variant I’ve never identified on-screen:
