New model for OWK three holes saber... (New pics on pg 13. 11-17-2024)

Turned my focus to the AOTC version of kit.

I disassembled the whole thing, and gave the aluminum parts the 0000 steel wool treatment. Then, I thoroughly polished the aluminum parts using Mothers aluminum polish, both by hand and by using a polishing pad on a Dremel. Since it seems likely that the AOTC metal hero was a refurbished TPM hero, I wanted to give the aluminum the grain/brushed look first, then polish it, for that extra level of authenticity.

I’m gonna glue the LEDs in, then give the aluminum spacer which the red button slides into a shot of Duplicolor Metalcast red, to match the look of a real blanking cap.

After that, it’s just down to that darn rivet.

Setting aside the subtle dimensional differences, this will shape up into a reasonable approximation of the AOTC hero.

Here’s how an authentic purple rivet sits in the salt shaker without mods.

That's what I figured. Either a smaller rivet is needed, or the hole will need to be slightly enlarged.

The valve piece in this kit is noticeably different from the TPM version when you set them side-by-side. The knurled section is taller, and the hole is smaller. Accurate to the salt-shaker, of course, but slightly off for TPM.

What if a TPM valve was modified to fit into the Salt Shaker?

Sanded the faces of the flat LEDs and glued them in, making sure that their orientations match those of my TPM build.

All that remains to do is the rivet.

And here we have the Starkiller/Dewy TPM (top, steel wool-brushed finished), Starkiller salt-shaker in AOTC mode, with polished aluminum finish (middle), and salt-shaker kit in ROTS mode, with brushed finish (bottom).

And, as a bonus, here’s the polished aluminum AOTC compared to the chromed brass Korbanth AOTC:

These look so good, I had to come back and have another look, throw in another two cents. Thanks for sharing these pics!

The polish work on your AOTC kit is really top notch. More pics please, it’s Friday. We’d probably all like a little more eye candy to lift us into the weekend.

Starkiller, well done. That’s another amazing kit, sir. Awesome. It blows the MR saber out of the water again. Makes me even more excited to see the Quigon come into reality. Thank you to you as well! Great stuff.

I'll snap some more photos when I get a chance.

It certainly makes sense that the AOTC was polished, though. For a long time, many of us thought the hero sabers were chromed resin. But it turns out that they were polished aluminum, with the lightweight chromed resin versions being the actors' preferred belt-hangers.

So, they apparently took the TPM prop and polished it up to match the look of the new designs made for AOTC.
