Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

Hi everyone, new to building "stuff" so during research for my first attempt at an E11 an a budget ... about £5 gbp so far i came across this site and thought "yea" so here i am saying hi all :cool
hopefully have a few pics of the E11 soon as im happy with it.

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

Razor's Edge Collectibles (US based, not UK) had three selling for about $220, one of which I bought. They're sold out now. This price was about $80 cheaper than importing from UK sources.
Hmm... still a bit rich for my blood. At the current exchange rate, ones on eBay that I believe are being sold from the UK show up as being just about $200 US. A few months ago, the exchange rate was a bit better, and I think there were some on there that could be had for closer to $150, but at the time, I couldn't afford to pick one up. And now the price is just going up, up, up. :unsure
Yes, I did see your post. :rolleyes I wasn't looking for exactly the same case, just something completely clear so that it doesn't obscure view of the relatively small prop. You're right about these cases being hard to find, though. I was hoping to find something that had some kind of lid or door for easier access.
So far, I've looked around to see who is carrying that sort of case that we both used. My local hobby shop carries a variation on it. The top is the same design, but the base has been redesigned. It is now vac-metalized in a silver chrome color, and molded to look like steel "diamond plate". While I'm sure that looks perfectly fine for displaying a model car, for props like the sonic screwdriver, it looks a bit tacky for my taste.
I'm holding off on any custom plaques for now until I 'complete' the collection. :angel
When you're ready for custom plaques, look up either GATORBAIT9696 or Howard here on the RPF. Either one of them can help you out with that. :cool

BTW, how did you attach MFX's included logo card to the back of the case? Did you just use tape, or did you use something a little nicer? Your pic you posted is so small that it's hard to tell. :confused

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

hey name's Trevor I'm a college student in Virginia/USA. I only just found this site so it looks like I got lucky getting to join right off.
Anyway I have never gotten deep into making stuff always put my time on video games or something, but recently I have started to crave some hands on work.
I have more experience in drawing then anything else but I looking to start wood carving and sculpting with clay, possibly 3D modeling as well if I have the time.
Hopefully I'll start my first sculpture this weekend!:)

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

G'day guys!

My name is Mick and I'm from down under, Sydney, Australia. I have been a massive Star Wars collector for over 15 years now and slowly ventured into collecting Aliens and Matrix items recently also.

I collect pretty much anything and everything SW related, but my main interests include costumes and life size props replicas. I joined as a 501st member in 2005 and was the founding Squad Leader of NSW which has now grown and become a Garrison of its own. I am no longer a member of the 501st, but I still continue to troop and trade with my Garrison members friends.

Like most collections, my house has slowly become consumed and I have difficulty finding space each time I buy something new! But I really enjoy the thrill and excitement of chasing down items I have been searching for. It's a unique experience only fellow collectors can understand :)

Anyway, I have many friends here on the forum and when I heard it was open for registration I didn't hesitate to finally join myself. I look forward to meeting new friends and catching up and sharing everything this forum has to offer.

As they say, we don't stop playing with toys because we grow old... we grow old because we stop playing with toys.

I noticed the same thing on Testors website [LINK]. The current version is very tacky. I bought both clear cases that I found because I think they've discontinued them. The other one may be used for the CT sonic so they match.

Thanks! The tricky part will be obtaining appropriate high-res images and vector logo files.

I didn't use any tape because I don't want to damage the COA. Instead, I picked up some clear photo corner holders used to mount photos in scrapbooks. The COA is mounted on the inside of the case:

I had to buy a box of 250 of the things from a local craft store to get the four I needed! :lol

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

hey everybody!

Im new here as of yesterday, but been looking at this site everyday for about a year, love the positive mojo here and the very creative people.

I have been making different props for about 5-6 years, primarily in the Ghostbusters category I have my own group that does charity fundraisers, media events, and pretty much anything. our website is www.Orlandoghostbusters.com .

I have also made props from Star Wars, and just little original things.

Im into the arts as well, making wooden masks (tribal) and paintings using watercolor, paint, inks and pastel chalks.

Thanks for having me

G

Actually, that one IS the same one we have. The "diamond plate" is just a piece of cardboard laid onto the clear base. It's a box panel that you cut out and put on the base if you so choose. Look at the picture again and you'll see what I mean.

But the new ones in stock at my local hobby shop, the entire base is the vac-metalized silver chrome color, with the raised up "diamond" pattern molded in. You'd notice the difference immediately, because even the sides of the base have that chrome look. I guess someone at Testor's REALLY likes that "diamond plate" steel look! :rolleyes
Thanks! The tricky part will be obtaining appropriate high-res images and vector logo files.
Actually, look at GAITORBAIT9696's thread in the Junkyard. He's been doing this for AWHILE, so he already has a lot of the necessary logos. Trust me on this one. :cool

And if you look at the thread about the MFX Warehouse prop replicas, you'll see that Howard recently posted an image of the plaque that he's planning to make as a group run for those that want them. He also received some feedback on changes people would like to see. If you have any thoughts about his plaque design, feel free to share them. :)

Wow, that's an awful lot of them! But now you have them on hand if you ever need them again! :lol

And I thought I was seeing a little clear plastic corner mount of some kind, just wanted verification. When I put the plaque in the case, I may move the COA up to the back panel like you did. As you can see in my pics, right now, it's just kinda laying in there, propped up between the back panel, and the rear edge of the sonic's display stand, a quick and dirty way of displaying it. Your solution looks better. :cool:thumbsup

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

Hello. My name is Leif, I'm from British Columbia Canada. I've been a Star Wars nut since 1977. I collect vintage items from SW:ANH and ESB, including a few production used prints. I've always been very interested in the early history of ILM, and the ILM special effects & model building.

As a kid I loved model building, particularly aircraft and spacecraft. I'm now reliving my childhood. :)

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

Ello, ello.
I've been a little fan girly lurker for a while now and was quite excited to see that registration was open.
I'm from Central Canada. (Manitoba area)
I have a feeling this site will be quite helpful in further costuming.

Here's a fun little item I made to complete a recent costume.
After searching for one and having no luck, I gave in and made my own.
Deadpool belt buckle!

Glad I could catch the registration this time around. I'm out here in southern California, amassing/making/altering props, costumes and gear for short films.

I also enjoy making and collecting Batman and Indiana Jones gear.
