Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

Hi all!

Been a frequent visitor since I found the TOS comm thread a few years ago, and just returned to find the registration window open.:)

Not much of a prop builder myself, but like most here, probably pay more attention to the sets and props of shows rather than the stories. Mostly have built models and kits in the past, but am now building working display panels from Trek TOS bridge. I'll share any details as I progress through this project. My website has the animations I created while researching this project, but I'll post any prop pics here too.

Kudos to all the builders here for the fine work I've seen so far!

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

My name is Jim - I live in Atlanta.

In the past year or so, I've developed quite a few new skills in woodworking and CAD design that have got me extremely interested in reproducing some of the items from movie and TV that I've always wanted to hold in my own hands...

I'm very interested in learning about mold making and casting, and I understand there are some good discussions on here about that. I'm still trying to figure out what my first project is going to be... baby steps, but I'm sure looking forward to sharing my work and learning from the pros here.

Thanks for opening up the registration and letting some new folks in!

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

Hey all. Seen this site awhile back, but never had the time before to check it out before last week. Just wanted to introduce myself and make some new friends.

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

I've been a fan of Doctor Who since the early '80s, and I've always wanted a quality replica of the iconic sonic screwdriver. The last time I checked into this was after the TV movie aired and there were hardly any options available. What few existed had obvious inaccuracies.

I discovered this board about a month ago after finding out about the MFX replica. So far I've acquired the MFX 10th Doctor's sonic, the Sixteen 12 4th Doctor's sonic, and two Russ Replicas which should be arriving very soon. I'm also keeping an eye on the CT version of the new series sonics.

The info on this board has been invaluable in helping me obtain the prop replicas I've wanted for 25 years. I'm hoping to post some comparison photos and comments about the various sonics soon.

I've also been very impressed with the fan made items shown here.

It's a start:

My name is David i live in Texas and i'm very happy to be apart of this board. I have a lot of prop ideas though i'm fairly new at it. My best prop project so far would probably have to be my fiberglass Wolverine Claws. I sell a lot of them on eBay. I'm a big fan of Star Wars and Comics so i think this is the place for me :)

Hi Guys...
Finally made it across! :rolleyes
Names Gavin (Gav) from not so sunny UK, I'm 36 and a design Enginer.
Some may know me from TDH as Mojo-Fett, I've been into props and prop making for a couple of years.

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

Hey, new guy here. Used to do minor "Found Item" modeling, and where budget restraints allow I have been wanting to get in to Prop casting and molding. Will be poking my nose in and out as time will allow. Other then that, what I have seen from poking around the forum is there are some highly creative people that are quick to lend any advice they can. Which is awesome and encouraging to me. See you around the forums.

Always happy to see another Whovian join the ranks! :cool:thumbsup

I wish I could afford the Sixteen 12 Sonic Screwdriver. I absolutely LOVE the display case they've made for it. But sadly, at current exchange rates, it's just too expensive for me to be able to get one. :unsure

And I can tell you've been reading the thread about the MFX Warehouse sonics and looking at the pictures posted there, because you've chosen to *ahem!* borrow my idea for displaying the MFX sonic! Same exact model of 1:24 scale model car display case and everything! ;)

But once I get my custom-made plaque done up after the holidays, my display will once again be unique! :)

Great avatar, BTW. :cool:thumbsup

WOW! Nice gun!! I've just started working on a gun from the movie District 9. I hope it turns out decent. You don't have to go into detail at all, but, how did you make the metal pieces? And was it expensive?

Hi,
My name is Darren. I've actually only waited abut 3 days to get a member ship here. I just found out about it in Make magazine, in the Adam Savage interview. In the past few months, I have really had an interest in prop building. I love the detail you can put into your work!
Can't wait to expand my knowledge by learning from you guys/girls. I'll try and post some pictures of my work, that is, if I can figure out how. :lol

Hey Woodchuck... Great job on the intarsia! I just started (or back into) woodworking. I've never used colour in my pieces. It looks really well done. Congrtats.

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

I've been wanting to join this board for a long time. I've only recently started gaining interest in prop replicas but I think my scale modeling experience will give me some skills to start with.
