Magic of Myth ( MoM ) Luke RotJ Hero ( cave build ) lightsaber research, images, reference, & collaborative model builder's discussion.

I swear it was an indent on my resin castings. I’ll check when I get home.

Update, couldn’t see it on my painted one. I sold the raw casting, so I could just be getting old and forgetful.

 (y)
Sooo close

Looks pretty good! I sent you a message about sending my casting for reference.

Are the green and red arrows going to be slightly slanted like in the real prop or idealized/straightened?

Noted: For the sake of the Fx build and the box reveal on the interior we are going for a pivoting single switch and dual activation. We will likely machine it to appear like they are separated though.

For the arrows... it would be fairly easy to make a separate plate with the skewed arrows as well as an ideal arrow position.
For purposes of the model assets I think both will be included but not sure about future runs what would be offered. That’s all still fleshing out
Here’s why it is possible though:
Rotate-able arrows and no need to glue. (Mechanically set)

There’s still a few things to address... but. I am pretty pleased .

Excuse the iPhone comparison shots

This is crazy to see. The arrows on the real thing are so big you can see them underneath the card on the shots looking down the nose of the saber

Tom was right I did notice the shallow dimple and it's not a drop of superglue
... it's quite apparent in some pictures, even in this thread :

Searching through my archive I also found these 2 images which have not been posted in this thread yet, as far as I can tell ... I did
enhance them slightly in photoshop :

i always hoped for roman to keep both gen 1 and gen 2 design versions.
gen 1 is an insane rotj hero option, too bad the gen2 replaced it completely, since people could not be so interested in the tlj creepy uncle as they would be in the hero...

I'm biased, but I think it's best idealized Luke saber.

There will be a broad discussion regarding that before we commit to anything specifically.
drizzt1234 and I have been focused on making the model in a way that is FX ready, but with all the accoutrements to dress it as a shelf queen and be accurate if desired.
As it stands now: it wouldn’t be too difficult to turn it into a static piece but the methodology is what is in question. Unibody is possible but I don’t know if we would choose that route as the setup is quite different.
That also tends to be Anakin Starkiller ’s specialty especially with the Hero... so we will discuss his plans. We don’t want anyone to feel like they’re being sheparded into a camp they don’t want to be in.

But for example. If we get the model visually spot on, then produced it hollow for FX.
It would come with everything you would need to make it at least *look* static. And if you wanted the unibody feel, there’s the discussion of manufacturing an aluminum buck to fit inside which might actually be cheaper for us to do.

So it’s still on the table: and there’s a broad discussion forthcoming

Also if it hasn’t been mentioned before: once we are done and a run is attempted (or not) the assets will become available open source. So this model could feasibly become whatever y’all want via open-source

Here's a fun question: I've noticed, especially on the brass neck and emitter, that the saber has lighter tones in the corners of the flanges, and darker tones on the flat surfaces. Do we think this is a dusting of paint or tarnish from being handled? (see chaim's post for close-ups)

My theory is it was polished, the sprayed with matte clear, then the matte clear wore away during use and left the hazy stuff in the corners
