After watching the last episode of Picard (I know stay with me ) it got me thinking of how big a contrast it is between how Paramount treated its legacy characters (and fans) vs. how Disney/Lucasfilm treats theirs. Disney/Lucasfilm, with the Sequels, took a steaming dump on their legacy characters and then KILLED them off. Paramount gave theirs a fitting send off with all the characters exhibiting correct personalities/behaviors as their previous incarnations. Disney/Lucasfilm, apparently having no gifted writers, thought the only way to get people to like their new poorly written characters was to actively destroy all their legacy characters. I'd say that last even extended to Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

On a different note. Does anyone know whether Tarkin was a true believer in the Empire and everything it did and stood for or was he more of an opportunist who saw the Empire as a chance for advancement and power? If he was a true believer, how much did he know and care about the true nature of the Empire and the Emperor?

And here's another question, why don't Stormtroopers ever seem to have an accent even though we hear many (unarmored) Imperials speak with a distinct British accent? Are Stormtrooper specifically trained to speak like Americans or is there some sort of tech in their helmets that filter out whatever accents they may have and make them all sound like Americans?

I think once they get promoted, they're sent to Officer's School and taught the accent. :p

I think the answer to both questions is "yes"

Peter Cushing gave Tarkin a brief look of concerned disbelief when Vader was choking Motti using The Force in the conference room. As if he realized Vader was not just some religious zealot, but had REAL power.

Wasn’t Daniel Craig a stormtrooper in TFA? He might have been using his American accent though ( the Tomb Raider one not Knives out)

The in universe explanation for the British accent is that it's an accent from the core worlds of that galaxy. So those people would be seen as more sophisticated. It's the same reason that Padme and Leia adopted a fake (horrible...) accent when they are speaking in their official capacity. Some of the EU stuff has said that Stormtroopers are subjected to some level of conditioning (like brain washing) so maybe they are also made to speak somewhat uniformly? IDK. The correct answer is probably just that whoever they had around to record the voices were Americans, probably people who worked for Lucasfilm and were available.
