One thing I never understood was… here are some of the generals from the rebel alliance… and only luke leia and lando show up to save han?

Why not land the whole damn fleet in jabbas back yard and say “give us capt solo!!”

Lol

I always wondered that when I was a kid…

Perhaps they didn't want to attract to much attention? And get the Empire coming in to crash the party.

Because Tattooine is filled with enough scum at Mos Eisley alone that would send major alert calls to the Imperial fleets in a heatrbeat. Not to mention Jabba's people wouldn't be above giving the Empire a call just to earn a favor with them.

Said rescue fleet would be visible for miles if they parked in "Jabba's back yard".

The Rebels were massing their troops for Endor, I assume. I always wondered that too. We also could infer from the Prequels (and EU) that the Hutts, while not being able to militarily rival the Empire/Rebellion, are pretty powerful. More so in their own region of space, but the fact that the Hutts control a major region of space that the Empire won't mess with, says something.

So, it appears the production for Andor got lazy and included an unmodified AK-47. I guess they forgot the "A Long Time Ago, in a Galaxy Far, Far Away" portion of Star Wars. XD

How does a stock AK even make it onto the set like that? Did they have some (stupid) plan to CGI over it later?

It is modified, but not extensively. The dust cover, front and rear sights, and magazine are all modified.

AKs have a very distinct appearance that is pretty hard to disguise, so not exactly a great choice for building a blaster.

I mean, really…all they would’ve had to do was glue a part from an old piece of camera equipment onto it and it would be transformed into a Star Wars Blaster…

To demonstrate…

A 20th Century firearm:

And now, behold…”zip-zip-zoopity-zoop” it’s a Star Wars Blaster!

My work here is done.

My take is that while Han, Luke, and Leia are key figures in the Rebellion, using the entire Rebel force to rescue one guy seems like a very stupid move when they've been planning the attack on the DS2 for Lord knows how long.

So what seems like the greater risk? Sending a few capable fighters to save one of their Generals? Or risk missing the window on being able to possibly overthrow the Empire and by extension, liberate the galaxy? Save a single life? Or potentially save the lives of billions?

I always assumed the Rebels were always low in resources, whether it was in terms of weapons or manpower. They survive through covert tactics and probably staying lean and striking fast and hard. So they couldnt spare the resources to go save Han even if they wanted to.

Luke and Leia come to rescue Han because Han is their friend. Droids need to follow Luke. And Lando goes because Han is a friend and probably feels guilty for betraying him in ESB. It wasnt a Rebellion mission but an independent mission to save a friend.

It's more modified than you think. About the only AK parts on the blaster are the barrel and gas piston assembly, both of which have been greatly shortened with modified handguards. The receiver is more MP40 than it is AK, although the magazine does appear to be a modified AK mag.

Here's a pic of an MP40 for comparison.

I always think of Last Crusade when I see an MP40.
It is a very widely used gun for the Germans in a lot of WWII films, even if the Germans never really fielded them in the numbers that you see in movies and shows. The Germans issued them in the same way that we, the US, issued Thompsons, primarily to NCOs and officers. Regular lower enlisted grunts would get rifles.
