It's honestly not as bad as it sounds lolI've never had anchovies!
To be fair, for every Joekeer post trying to convince everybody of how great TLJ is with convoluted and oftentimes far fetched arguments, there's at least a couple posts by any other people making absolutelly clear for the 100th time how much they don't care about the ST or star wars anymore... At least joekeer's posts, however nonsensical they may appear to some (and I'm sorry but oftentimes I have to include myself lol), are entertaining, bring something new to the table and have some work put into it, unlike the stark, boring repetition of your uninterest. Which by the way is contrary to the idea of a forum where everybody can politely discuss his opinions and views on the subject; so yeah, that last accusation of "not getting it" made by joekeer about Luke is out of tone (and anyway any TLJ attack/defense is out of tone, now that we're past that) but on the other side, gosh, if you don't care just don't post, and if you care, post (politelly), but don't just post to say you won't post cause you don't care: does this make any sense or am I just talking stupid because the lack of SW news is making us circle back to the same nonsense and making us posting pizza on a SW thread?
So anyway, back to the topic; pineapple & pizza: hell yeah or big no-no?
Then you'll love the lightsaber pizza cutter, complete with sound effects! (It does exist: I'ld include a picture but I don't feel like publicising such abheration any furtherI'm the first to admit that I have fed into a LOT of the debate and again I acknowledge my temper getting the better of me at times though I try my best to keep my opinions civil and respectful. There have been times I haven't always done that and I've been called out on it and rightly so. I err. I'm human and I try to own my mistakes and apologize if I go too far.
I try to frame my responses in a way that brings thoughtful perspective to the conversation rather than bash someone outright for disagreeing with me and I too attempt to refrain from simple phrases such as "it sucked" because it doesn't contribute much to the conversation other than complaining.
I may not hold interest in the new stories but my passion for the film's and the potential they hold within them is what keeps me responding to threads like this and as much as I may think my fellow fans may be wrong on things, I respect their right to love what they want and their contribution to the topic.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I've always admired Joek3rr for his passion and enthusiasm even if I don't agree with his perspective. I should add optimism to that as well. That's a rare quality in the cynical world we live in and one that should be celebrated.
At this juncture I'm happy to move on with the discussion past ep. 8. Which is why I'm keen to not delve into specific examples of my gripes with the film for fear of devolving once again into the same arguments that have taken over far too many threads for the last year and a half. We all know where we stand on the subject. Let's move forward shall we?
I love pizza. I love lightsabers too. : )

Psab keel said:I've been meaning to reread the Thrawn trilogy since it's been about 20 years since I read them last. I hope they hold up well. Even if they don't I still have some fond memories of reading them back in the day and enjoy them more than the ST.
Either way Star Wars is just the OT to me. A beginning, a middle and an end and I am happy with that.
Here the thing. Rey is a woman. And the woman's role in the mythic story is different from that of the man's. Joseph Campbell said “Women don’t need to make the journey. In the whole mythological journey, the woman is there. All she has to do is realize that she’s the place that people are trying to get to.” Obviously that doesn't make for a good story if you are wanting to make a woman your protagonist. So Maureen Murdock, a student of Campbell's created the Heroine's Journey. Basically, as I understand it, the Heroine's Journey is the story about the woman realizing that she's at where everyone else is trying to get. "The feminine journey is about going down deep into soul, healing and reclaiming, while the masculine journey is up and out, to spirit.” - Maureen Murdock Heroine's journey - Wikipedia
Does this not sound a little like Rey? She searching searching searching, and what does the Force cave show her? It's shows her. Rey's already there. What does Yoda say about her? "Wisdom they held, but that library contained nothing that the girl Rey does not already possess." Or has Joseph said "the woman(Rey) is there."
So I got to go work. So I don't have time to address your other points, sorry, in the meantime, have watch through these two videos, they're pretty short. And tell me what you think.
So I hope I don't open a can of worms.

If I do....Sorry I guess?![]()
So last night I'm doing my workout and looking for something to watch. I decide to watch a review of TLJ that YouTube has been recommending for months and months and months.....and last night I capitulated and watched it.
During the review, I reminded of something I find rather interesting. Obviously many fans weren't too thrilled about Luke. But I was reminded that being frustrated with Rian or TLJ for this is misplaced. As Rian took the hand he was dealt with and wrote a Luke that could still be the hero. (8:30 is the timestamp for this part if you'd care to watch just that section.) If you don't care to watch it, I'll explain his thoughts.
The main reason Luke is on that island because he believes that he and Jedi are bad for the galaxy. He believes so strongly and he's closed himself off to the Force, and he scuttled his X-wing. If you take issue with this, then what's the alternative? TFA clearly set up that Luke had disappeared, and people were trying to find him. Given this, you have to ask yourself, 'why is Luke here?' He[Stephen] gives a couple of optional reasons.
1) is he hiding?
Obviously no, Luke is not a coward, and that is far more out of character. And what would he be hiding from, the First Order hadn't risen to prominence yet nor are they public yet, so he isn't hiding from them. So that doesn't work
2) is he just sad, bummed out about Kylo? That's part of the reason he's there. But if that were the only reason, having him sulk on that island without trying to do anything to correct it. That doesn't work either.
3) is he being held there against his will? That would make Luke out to be an incredibly weak Jedi. Plus he could have just telepathically asked Leia for help. So that doesn't work either.
So with those 3 things out of the way Luke must:
1)Be closed off from the Force. Or he would come off as seriously callous or cowardly, as he would have sensed the death of Han, and rise of the First Order, the destruction of Hosnian system. And to have Luke sensing those things and still not come and help or at a minimum call out to Leia and ask for a Star Wars Uber.
2) And he needs a really good reason to do that. And the only way that works is if he sees his use of the Force as a negative and his intervention on the behalf of the galaxy, also a negative.
So if you really have a problem with Luke in TLJ, your problem isn't with Rian and TLJ. It's with JJ Abrams, Lawrence Kasdan, Michael Arndt, and George Lucas. Your problem is with the decision to have Luke missing, at the beginning of this story. Rian was just given the responsibility of explaining why. Not an easy burden.
I like pineapple on pizza!
