I mean who doesn't want to be flying down the trench run in an X-wing every time they sit down at their computer?

Corridor Digital recreates the 1970s lightsaber practical effect

Well, that was annoying to watch. Much like their trench run "upgrade" video, they've managed to do a worse job than special effects crews did 40 years ago. Halliwax's and Vadermania's efforts blows theirs out of the water.

I would've rather seen Adam Savage do a video on ANH stun lightsabers. He would've given a much more instructional, informed presentation.

Also when the heck did Markiplier start working with them?!
They need a strip of black tape to break up the retroreflective material.
They way over-complicated things by placing it in a tube and making the 'rod' flat-edged or triangular or whatever.

Presentation is everything in a video like this and you'd think that with decent film equipment and a crew consisting of at least a handful of people, and claiming to be professionals that their video would look and sound more professional. I haven't watched their other content so I can't comment on them as a whole, but I had to skip around this one to the interesting parts. Not only did the build feel very amatuerish, but the video itself did too.

Very amateurish. They obviously didn't put much research into the original ANH props.

Their other videos when they're breaking down cgi effects from movies are better. Still, their frantic presentation style and personalities make them hard to watch. Nico (the dude with the longer blonde hair) is the only calm one. I used to watch some of their videos but got tired of them quickly.

This is one big reason why I dont like Leia's depiction in ST, or at least think its a huge downgrade.

Leia is an amazing leader and would have been an amazing leader of the new Republic or whatever government came into place. She is smart, witty, confident, and has strong ideals. Leia is the one who called Chewy a walking carpet and was the one who grabbed a blaster and shot open the vent into the sewage to escape in ANH (also subverting the rescue the princess trope in the process).

I do agree with the overall concept that Leia should have been "the one to bring peace" to the Galaxy. Luke is a great jedi and should have led the next jedi order but he is a farm boy. He hasnt studied galactic politics and would be played like a fiddle by politicians. Having Luke be the "shield" to protect and enforce peace when force is necessary and Leia be the "brain" that governs the galaxy and passes laws to ensure fairness would have been the right call. Leia "studying to be a jedi" was also stupid imo because she would have greater influence, power, and effectiveness as a senator and leader than she would as a jedi.

The irony is that we could have had that version of Leia For the Sequel Trilogy. It was that version of Leia in the treatment that Lucas gave LucasFilm, and they then did this like what Luke did with his lightsaber.

Yes that was in George's plan that took place a few years after ROTJ. As opposed to treatment that George wrote with Michael Arndt, which was set 30 some years after ROTJ.

That's the inherent problem with the ST. It's set 30 years after ROTJ. All of that would have gone down 15 to 20 years prior. Leia has already helped build the Republic. Until she was revealed to be Darth Vader daughter. That was all apart of Michael Arndt's treatment he wrote with George, as backstory for the ST. But it really should have been alluded to in ST.

I've been tempted lately to reread the Republic Commando books for the umpteenth time. I last read them in 2019. Some of the best EU books ever! I would love if they could get Karen Traviss to do something with The Mandalorian. I doubt it would happen, but it would be cool!

Yeah I really dont like how inconsequential the politics and world building in the ST is. This is a brand new galaxy where the heroes have won and defeated the big bad. There is a ton of potential factions and stories that can result such as the new Republic fighting the remnants of the Empire, new players such as the Hutts choosing to rise to power in a time of chaos and disorder, etc. You could argue that all these issues got wrapped up in the 30 years gap but even in real life, we know its not that easy to establish a new government. Hell, I do think Leia being revealed as Vader's daughter and being forced out would create a huge schism within the New Republic and tons of infighting for power. Leia is the obvious next leader given her experience, charisma, actual status within the Rebel Alliance (unlike Han and Luke who are essentially skilled soldiers), and being one of the trio of the 3 great heroes that defeated the Empire. There would be groups that still want Leia to rule because she is so capable, people who dont trust her because of her Vader ties, and people opposing her because they want to be in power. It should have been this situation that Leia's story is told where she takes her place and "brings peace," emphasizing the ST as Leia's story.

For all the talk about the ST focusing on the female and Leia being "the one" and not Luke, Kennedy did a great job making Leia irrelevant. Leia doesnt really do much in the first two movies of the ST that make her "Leia" and not "random Rebel leader." Leia is smart and sees the big picture which was shown when she quickly figured out that the Empire "let them escape" or volunteering for the attack on Endor to lower the shields for the second death star. It would have made more sense for me in TFA if despite everyone wanting to call Luke back for help, Leia insisted they dont because she was in communication with Luke through the force (as a nod to ESB) and knew that Luke was involved in something more important (this is also assuming we dont have TLJ depressed Luke). I feel if Leia knew that Luke was depressed, she would go to him or would have had Han searching for him.
