Some fans (not just Jaitea, but thanks for the reminder!) prefer to consider the PT as being not very reliable retellings of the actual events. You could consider the EU the same way.
Each of them has an overarching story and world-building as a foundation onto which it is built, and I think that the EU's foundation is not crap. Never mind the bad writing in some of those books.

I thought Shadows of the Empire was garbage. And as much as I liked the Zahn trilogy, he had Luke drinking hot chocolate. I mean, c'mon. What the hell is that? Doesn't belong in Star Wars, that's for sure.

I loved Shadows. Came at a good time for me in the late 90s when I craved more Star Wars.

Loved Dark Empire too in the early/Mid 90s when I was in college. Memories of sitting in a dorm room, listening to John Williams soundtrack, and drinking cheap beer. Good times!

OK, now I got Disney+ I decided to try watching Rebels with my son. Pretty decent so far but one thing bugs me. The Stormtroopers are such a joke, they’re even worse shots than their movie counterparts...

Tell me this gets better.

IMO the story in Rebels gets a lot better at times. Its mostly aimed towards kids, though, so for me a lot of episodes were just meh.

I thought Rebels had some of the greatest Star Wars moments, and then a LOT of filler between them, but I enjoyed it overall. Took some getting used to.

That's kind of how I view the Clone Wars series... Like it's a series of propaganda films being produced by/for the Republic.
Largely accurate but possibly with some embellishments.

I might be wrong, but wasn't that in the original SW novel? I remember it also talking about Luke remembering a dog he once owned and ducks also.

He mentioned dogs and ducks, but not hot chocolate. Unless it's in the final few pages, that is. I'm currently reading it, at the battle of Yavin, Porkins just bit it, and Luke is about to start his attack run.

I've never read the novel, but I doubt hot chocolate was in there because I remember specifically in the 1st Zahn book when Luke is drinking hot chocolate he mentions Lando introducing it to him.
